The Mercenary Company of Sachs picks:

Ghost General (Shinuyama)

I'm honestly shocked he lasted this long.

Never even heard of him, to be honest :D
But its an Shinuyama spell and I didn't play them often (I think I subbed them once...)

Ghost Generals. They're ethereal Banes, more or less.

In other news, I figured out the colour codes for peoples nations choices, though orange and yellow may be off slightly. Only relevant for score graphs.

0.0 0.4 0.0 -dark green
0.7 0.5 0.3 -sort of orange
0.2 0.2 0.2 -dark grey
0.4 0.0 0.0 -dark red
0.0 0.0 0.4 -dark blue
0.7 0.6 0.4 -sort of yellow
0.9 0.8 0.9 -off white
0.8 0.2 0.8 -bright purple
0.3 0.3 0.3 -grey

You can also put an epithet in for a nation (eg. Sachs, Mercenary Company) so that it appears on the game screen/nation info. Not relevant to the game at all, really, but some people may want to define their nation for RP reasons.

OK, I whipped up a map that is ironically drafted from bits of other maps. It's wraparound and it has 143 provinces of which 16 are water.

Image

Any objections to using that? It has lots of little lakes so that everyone who took sailing leaders can get some use out of them, and the first player into the water won't end up with an empire that is twice as big as everyone else's.

Map looks good.

Can we make the middle of the map NoStart? I really don't want to be the man-in-the-middle again.

Well he did say it was wrap around, so where would you put the no start areas since everything is the middle?

Basically, the not-coast areas.

Ulvolge, a Bird in the Hand.

Also, since I seem to be done drafting, I'll take 1 Earth/4 Astral for my starting income.

Sachs, The Mercenary Company

Also, I think I'll name my Pretender Aurelius. Whoever gets the reference gets a cookie.

Does DrP know that he's up? He's been posting all day but hasn't made this last spell choice.

The whole map is made of middle. Basically, I am going to make the whole map no start except for nine locations chosen by the criteria of:
  • Not being adjacent to any other starting locations.
  • Having 5 land neighbors.
Then everyone gets to have a start location that is at least nominally fair. We could actually have a start location draft, but I think just going full random is the better option.

Either he doesn't know or he's still trying to figure out what to get.

New mediafire link.

http://www.mediafire.com/?ms0znnkj1dteglq

Includes flags, current spell choices (Dr Praetor and FrankTrollman still to submit 1 spell) and heroes. Unzip into your mods folder. The draftnations folder contains only the flag pictures.

Bane lord
Trog Lord (0 cost)
Basalt Queen (0 cost)
Gargoyle
Ettin
Kenzoku
Demonbred (multi)
Gandharva (multi)

Should be fairly simple to adjust/replace values from here, such as gem income and/or heroes and such.

Some of the locations will be way better than others. The top left of the map has single-province chokepoints even with the wrap-around. The sea areas basically make a lot of places a lot more defensible (even though we have sailors and amphibious units).

The middle of the picture above doesn't need wraparound to show that it's completely indefensible if someone starts there. Just draw the lines of connections and try to imagine a starting empire with 10 nearby provinces.

Chances are high that any nation starting there will be surrounded by everyone and won't have any choke-points at all. They'll be the first to fall.

Basically you need to start nations near a water province. The middle will be a killing ground, but at least people will be able to get into the land corridors if they really want to.

Is the wrap around just east-west or also north-south?

Just thinking...

If the two mountain graphics didn't have straight connections, anyone in the big open areas would be a lot more defensible.

There are pros and cons with chokepoints. They are advantageous in defence against landbound armies, but they can also be a hinderance to fast expansion, especially with slow moving units.

I like the map. It appears to have a good variety of different terrain types. Happy to go along with whatever.

I did not realize I was up, no. Sorry about that.

Banquet for the Dead (Ashdod)

This is an awesome spell, K, because it also makes a bunch of Ditanim as well as the supercombatant chassis.
