[Dom3] Draft: Etimhara Victorious
Moderator: Moderators
No question there are enough choices left to make a viable nation. I'm also not happy with adding another player; I don't want to be a hard ass about it, but the whole thing is too complicated already. I'm curious about what Akula/Odezd would take, though.
Etimhara takes:
Trident Knight 1410 (Oceania)
Just so I can get in the water.

Well, since a couple of people are against it, and I am not keen on ramming myself down people's throats, I'll withdraw my interest. You all have fun now. For what it is worth, I did post this on page one, two posts after Shiritai signed up:
I might edit in my hypothetical choices here in the future.
I never received a response.I would be interested in playing, but I can't commit to 24 hour hosting schedules for another month, my schedule involves being away from a dominions computer from 9am to 9pm on tuesdays and thursdays. Depending on how long this takes to get set up, this might be a nonissue.

Most of the middle-era heroes while technically not unique, do have a unique name and backstory in their text. It might be wierd to have 3 different versions of Abasi, running around, for example.
There are a few multi-heroes with a slightly more vanilla description and random name, just not that many in the middle era (Master of the Games, Fianna, Knight of the Stone). You might be able to pad out a list of heroes this way by drawing similar units from another era, like the Bogatyr from Bogarus or the Gladiator Champion from EA Ermor.

Everyone needs to get the same heroes because there wasn't a hero draft. Further, it would be really unfair if a national hero gave some magical diversity that one player had drafted to get and another player had not.K wrote:Have we decided what the national heroes are going to be?
So preliminarily:
- Hero1: Green Knight (376)
- Hero2: Hero (378)
- Hero3: Hero (866)
- Hero4: Heroine (381)
- Hero5: Hero (952)
- Hero6: Fir Bolg Hero (1777)
- MultiHero1: Knight of the Stone (58)
- MultiHero2: Bogatyr (1957)

Obviously, if you have cheap/weak/non-diverse mages, then wizards are better for you, while they'd be worse for me who has strong/expensive/diverse mages
.
A lot of the guys on your list (the Green Knight, the 378, 506 and 866 and 952 heroes, the 381 and 507 heroines) *are* unique. So that's no good.
Okay, let's look at the total unit list. What do we want? We want no magic, we want non-unique, we want high leadership, we want high hit points, we don't want magic beings or cold bloods or anything like that, we don't want sacred units or pretenders, and we don't want units that were available as choices above.
This gives us the following list of heroes which are totally insane, so we should use them:
Looking a bit further down on the list, there are some LA commanders that would make decent, non-breaking heroes.
Honestly, I'd suggest this:
Hero1 - Admiral (1030)
Hero2 - Drake Lord (1451)
Hero3 - Khan (930)
Hero4 - Knight of the Stone (58)
Hero5 - Asmeg (1001)
Multihero1 - Sleeper (559)
Multihero2 - Ettin (488)
The Admiral can sail, which is fair as a power for heroes to get.
The Drake Lord is a dude with a drake he rides - that's a hero schtick right there.
The Khan is a prince from a mysterious foreign land, and he kicks ass. Fine hero there.
The Knight of the Stone does what he does, and isn't unique.
The Asmeg is actually kinda lame, being as he loses in a fight to an Emerald Lord in spite of being sz 3.
The Sleeper is a hero of the ages, that's fine.
The Ettin is almost a monster, but he's perfectly thuggable and actually a decent giant chassis.
Honorable mentions go to:
Catoblepas, Gargoyle.

They're technically not unique. They have unique names, but not the unique tag and all that entails. You can create a spell to summon them, for example, and they'll keep appearing, which a unique unit, like Elemental Royalty or a Grigori, will not do. Those units either disappear in a puff of smoke or fail to answer the call.DrPraetor wrote: A lot of the guys on your list (the Green Knight, the 378, 506 and 866 and 952 heroes, the 381 and 507 heroines) *are* unique. I like the idea of special/uncommon units as heroes though. I mean, who's going to turn down a friendly Ettin?
In any case, I've said more than enough about heroes. Happy to go with whatever people settle on.
I'll put my PD testing in spoilers, so as not to obscure Zinegata's pick.

Etimhara-Fine
Carthacia-Fine
Amblis-Flagellants do not appear
Huichan-Atlantean Militia do not appear
Uvolge-Caelian Infantry do not appear
The units that do not appear are all primary province defence and are supposed to appear at a ratio of 20 units per 10 PD. Higher or lower values, they all appear, PD does not like the number 20 for some reason.
Suggested 'fix' would be to increase the number of these units to 21 per 10 PD.

I would like the heroes to be upkeep free. Which means not a Drake Lord. Or if a Drake Lord, then it would be modded to gcost 0, which I guess we can do. I do see peoples' points about not wanting units that specify a name in their writeup (especially as being that they are heroes for other nations than their originals, I think they'll end up with names that are different from their descriptions).
But sure, if people want to use crazy units, how about:

That sounds like a syntax error rathat than a number error. Nimtir has Tien Chi archers showing up at 20 per 10, right?Winnah wrote:I'll put my PD testing in spoilers, so as not to obscure Zinegata's pick.

Yes. Wierd. I'll double check everything and try again. I've already corrected a few errors, so it would be best to be thorough.FrankTrollman wrote:

edit: Ok got it to work...Values of 20 are apparently acceptable. I don't know why this works, but I swapped the #defunit1 & #defmulti1 values around with the other base unit, and it fixed the problem. Tests ran fine for PD values of 10 and 25, I did not test any other variations. Updated the template on page 3.
As a note, PD will ignore decimal points. 3.5 per 10 = 3 per 10.
