Gaining provinces is an easy way to not gain money it looks like you're supposed to. If the taxes in the provinces you are attacking are set to zero, you get zero gold. But then the autotax takes over and sets the income to some non-zero amount. So your budget is short.K wrote:Mmmmm, I gained provinces and lost none and I'm still 800 short. It can't be that.

I understand the idea, but that's not what happened. The province I gained made like 35 gold, but I'm still 800 short. I lost no provinces.FrankTrollman wrote:Gaining provinces is an easy way to not gain money it looks like you're supposed to. I think I found it. The gold you get happens pre-patrolling and after Blood Hunting unrest, magic-based unrest, and battle unrest. That would explain it because all that shit happened at my capital.
Guess it doesn't matter now. Hinnom just tanked my home province population so I'm not getting gold out of them much any more.

I was a nation in the middle of five other nations and had no defendable border, was horribly gem-poor, and was research-poor because I was a Death nation who couldn't make Skull Mentors.Ikeren wrote:Glad to hear I'm doing something. For a while it was unclear whether or not you'd spend the rest of the game building up armies and just eying me with indifference.
I was never going to attack anyone. That's why I made Pacts with all of my neighbors who shared more than a one-province border with me.

Okay, T'ien Ch'i is out. We don't come back from that.
Some things I don't understand about the failed siege-breaking attempt:
• How did archery target my rear-placed casters?
• How the hell did my Seraph fatigue itself out turn 1? It cast Fire Storm and despite having all the paths and gems required instantly had 200 fatigue. wtf?

Celestial Masters are flyers. In the absence of bird chaff, archers on "fire flyers" will target Celestial Masters. Androphags were set to exactly that.angelfromanotherpin wrote:Okay, T'ien Ch'i is out. We don't come back from that.

Firestorm is a base of 500 fatigue. The Seraph was rolling in there with Fire 5, so even 6 gems sets him back 250 fatigue. The maximum fatigue is 200, so it stops there.• How the hell did my Seraph fatigue itself out turn 1? Buh? I guess I've just been laboring under a fundamental misunderstanding there.Firestorm is a base of 500 fatigue. The Seraph was rolling in there with Fire 5, so even 6 gems sets him back 250 fatigue. The maximum fatigue is 200, so it stops there.
One thing that I've found out recently (which I've narrowly avoided) is that the "gem cost" for casting a battle spell does not reduce fatigue.
For example: Living Earth needs Earth 4 and requires 2 gems (200 fatigue cost). If you give your caster 4 gems, he will use 2 gems to cast the spell, and the other 2 to reduce fatigue. That will reduce 200 fatigue to 1/3 of normal, or 67.
By contrast, if you cast Earthquake it still needs Earth 4, but 3 gems (300 fatigue). What happens in this case is that your caster eats 3 gems for the spell, but only 1 gem for fatigue reduction. With 1 gem, it reduced fatigue by 1/2... so 150 fatigue.
In cases where your fatigue would go over 200, you only get up to 200 fatigue as long as you were casting awake.
Also, don't forget you can't use more gems than you have paths in that school.
I was lucky in this case because I was also laboring under the previous assumptions (gems spent on a spell reduce fatigue), but I never cast a lot of spells requiring a lot of gems.

I have just received a job that is high paying (300$/day or more) that I am well suited to and have had in the past with other companies, but did not expect to or wish to take again --- circumstances dictate that I do. It will require me to be in the wilderness and have computer access only at a rate of one in six days.
I am looking for a sub. Hinnom has a NAP6 with Abysia, broken on turn 49, and a NAP3 with Ulm. This game is a little more complex, so if you want more information, PM me. We are at war with Lanka (K --- basically won) and Pangaea (Winnah) sniped some provinces, but the war with Lanka means all we can do is glare, for now.
It should be someone with no strong hostilities to anyone else in the game.

War with Lanka = incapable of taking Lanka fortresses and taking heavy losses with every attempt.Ikeren wrote:We are at war with Lanka (K --- basically won) and Pangaea (Winnah) sniped some provinces, but the war with Lanka means all we can do is glare, for now.
Any sub should probably know that. Lock-down duty is pretty tedious.

If somebody else wants to sub, they should.
If nobody wants to, I'll take the spot.
Sending Frank an E-Mail, just in case...

Set Korwin to sub for Hinnom.
Sauromatia continues to flail in the skins of the empires it has killed. Our doom is clearly imminent, but we did just kill the god of Pangaea again. We note that Pangaea took the time to re-empower her, so that was a lot of gems down the toilet.
But the loss of Bune severely restricts our ability to raid. The beginning of the end happened a long time ago, we may now be in the middle of the end.
