This is just something that was bouncing around my head while I was taking a walk.
Step one: Rename the sorcerer the mystic theurge.
Step two: Remove the PrC from the game entirely...bye bye
Step three: Slightly increase the number of spells known.
Step four: Allow the mystic theurge to choose his spells from any and all spell lists.
That's pretty much it. It puts you slightly behind the curve but in return you are granted a mix and match potential that no other class has. It still needs some actual features beyond spells if it wants to keep up with the druid, cleric, and wizard but its a step in the right direction. So what do you guys think?

That kind of option paralysis would be staggering and the class would only be useful to ridiculous basement-dwelling powergamers who are either looking to spam some other class's broken spell and/or looking for game effects Cleric Archer style that they can run through a spreadsheet and make their numbers go up. Precisely the wrong kind of class you want to have for the game.
If you really want to fix the sorcerer, give it the Beguiler/Warmage/Dread Necromancer treatment.

In short, your entire post is dismissive of not merely my intelligence, but my agency. And I don't mean agency as a player within one of your games, I mean my agency as a person. You do not want me to be informed when I make the fundamental decisions of deciding whether to join your game or buying your rules system.

The sorcerer doesn't really need to be fixed. If a sorcerer is feeling too weak compared to, say, a wizard in the party (and it isn't just bad spell selection), it would be reasonable to push her spellcasting progression forward one level.
The law in its majestic equality forbids the rich as well as the poor from stealing bread, begging and sleeping under bridges.

The Sorcerer has inferior class features, spell acquisition, and spellcasting. Fixing their inferior spell access isn't going to help any of that.CatharzGodfoot wrote:The sorcerer doesn't really need to be fixed. Calling this a sorcerer fix or trying to roll this into a single fix for both was a poor choice. I already use the "specially themed caster" as a replacement for the sorcerer. My intention was to fix the Mystic Theurge by using the sorcerers spell progression. However, you're point is entirely valid, and something I really should of have considered already but, for whatever reason, didn't.Lago PARANOIA wrote:That kind of option paralysis would be staggering and the class would only be useful to ridiculous basement-dwelling powergamers who are either looking to spam some other class's broken spell and/or looking for game effects Cleric Archer style that they can run through a spreadsheet and make their numbers go up. The core idea however, that the divine/arcane caster should be using a single casting progression instead of two, I think, still has merit.

hmm...
I have a sorceror fix..
It's pretty good. . . however, I find that the idea of fix varies from group to group, and board to board. So does "good" for that matter.
I have a sorceror... built for the tome series, thats a better way of putting it.
I wonder what I'd have to do to put it on par with a Dread Necro...
