The search for the table as a weapon

Post by virgil »

I'm trying to find this one thread/post made by Frank where he talked about the table as an improvised weapon, but Google has been less than helpful. Much appreciation if you recall the title.

Size Medium to Large object depending on the type of table. Like a club.
Around 1d8 to 1d0 Bludgeon damage.

Don't know anything about Frank's interpretation...

The original thread was strated by K back when he was an unregistered guest, and we had trouble porting those threads over. Back on the old TGDMB, the thread is here:

The thread itself wasn't my business, but what's one supposed to do with a nonworking link?

The table as a weapon can be found in Complete Warrior. It's a table, so it can be used as an improvised shield. It has legs, so you can use it to trip and disarm well. If it's big enough I think it gives reach.

The link works for me, but Ramnza confirms it does not for her. Strange.

Anyway...

--Adds a +2 shield bonus, so you can enchant it like a magic shield and you can get your shield bonus while two-handed fighting, and without any feats used.

--Adds a +2 to bull rushes.

--damage = 3d6/x2

-Downside: must be enchanted as a +3 weapon, or else you suffer a -4 to hit with it. Also, enchanting it as armor or weapon costs double.

What is it?

A large table....., as per the Improvised Weapon rules on page 158-159 of the Complete Warrior.

Enchant it as a Karmic Table +1 (thus granting proficiiency in "Table"), then enchant it as a shield, maybe get a cleric or wizzy to boost its weapon bonus, and you are good to go.

Awesome.
He later said instead of Karmic Weapon what he meant was the Skillful enhancement from Complete Arcane page 144

Someone else pointed out it could also grant total cover in certain circumstances.

I took it out of maintenance mode. It didn't help.

Wow, didn't expect that kind of help. Thanks muchly. I was looking at the Complete Warrior earlier in regard to seeing what a chair could do, and was uncertain that you could throw disarm in there. I can tell you one thing, you don't neccessarily need to enchant it, and just say you're always fighting defensively when you use it :P.

The old forum seems to be kaput in general, except for the front page, and the progress to actually reach the link with the new site to it open. I've been using Google to read the cached posts.

It is in Complete Warrior for the Drunken Master prestige class, who gets bonuses for attacking with the table.

first, one of the benefits of the table is that you can enchant it as both a weapon and a shield, and a nice dm might say that the wizard will enchant it as both on a "two for one price deal."

second, the chair's (or table, or bench, or whatever) legs can be used to disarm by catching weapon and such. Think of a mancatcher or trident.

In one campaign, I made the first attack roll of the game. It was with a table. It was a critical hit. We called it 2d6 plus Strength and a half. So fifty points of damage later (to a regular goblin), the game continued...

Considering it can't be done to an actual shield, the proper name is "an ignorant GM".

Unless I am misunderstanding you, sure you can enchant a regular shield as a weapon - shield spikes! (not on a tower shield though, which the Wartable has the functionality of)

Bigode refers to the fact that enchanting a shield as a weapon is a completely seperate endeavor from enchanting it as a shield. Having a +1 shield means you pay 1000gp for a +1 shield bonus (or enhancement bonus to the shield bonus, whatever). You need to pay 3000gp to have it be usable as both a +1 weapon & +1 shield.

Is there a proper name for that oriental weapon evolved from a table? [edit]Although, reading the text on the DVD case, it seems that one actually evolved from a chair...
