Panel 2- I'm not sure if this is just a gross over simplification, or Ishida's been constructing a strawman this whole time.
Cuz apparently I gotta break this down for you dense motherfuckers- I'm trans feminine nonbinary. My pronouns are they/them.

Peculiar properties of spacetime ensure that the perception of the magnitude of Soon is fluid and dependent, not on an individual's time-reference, but on spatial and cultural location. A marketer generally perceives Soon as a finite, known, yet unspeakable time-interval; to a fan, the interval appears greater, and may in fact approach the infinite, becoming Never. Once the interval has passed, however, a certain time-lensing effect seems to occur, and the time-interval becomes vanishingly small. We therefore see the strange result that the same fragment of spacetime may be observed, in quick succession, as Soon, Never, and All Too Quickly.

Ishida has been a slightly tamer Sophie Labelle for years now. They belong to the thankfully tiny group of "progressives who trigger the Poe's Law". As such, they end enabling the neo-fascists who can point to shit like this comic and gloat that "both sides are doing it".Prak wrote:

This is 100% unironic. The whole comic's been that way for years.Prak wrote:

Oh, yeah, I've noticed the straw tendencies of the feminist characters for a long time now, but this seems more blatant than ever.

I could honestly never tell who early Sinfest was trying to make fun of.
Looking back at some of the very first shit, you've got the Blaxpoitation Funk Bible strip, which is a bunch of racist stereotypes dressed up as a parody of a film genre known for its racist stereotypes. I can't tell if I'm supposed to be laughing because "oh, aren't stereotypical black people just so funny" or because "oh, man, those films really are that bad, aren't they." It doesn't help that the strip isn't particularly funny, but really there's just no... deeper message there. There's no subversion. It's just a presentation of blaxpoitation entertainment as is, and if you retitled the comic something offensive like "if Jamal had wrote the bible..." I would 100% believe it was the unironic work of some racist shithead. And then there's Fall Lineup, which - again - leaves me completely unable to tell whether or not I am supposed to laugh because Hollywood's attempts to include diversity are sometimes exactly that offensive or because HAHA RACIST JOKES. Then the comic introduces Monique, who will immediately be used for a series of "aren't women fun to look at and also dumb and shallow" jokes - but there's also the shit like the Matriarchy strips, where the butt of the joke is very clearly antifeminists. I always got the impression it was just the generally sacrilegious ramblings of your stereotypical 90's guy; a vaguely egalitarian philosophy mixed with somewhat insensitive attitudes and an inability to square his own sexuality with what the media had taught him feminism stood for - i.e. the sort of person I would have thought could have been pushed over the edge into straight-up antifeminism through shit like the Dick Wolves debacle or the GamerGate clusterfuck. If you had told me Sinfest had ended up a heavily political comic strip, I would have said "oh, he finally went full MRA huh?"
At least modern Sinfest is much clearer on its messaging. "Free stuff for women because men are evil. Got it. Fuck off."

Today I learned that Prevaricate means "lie" not "procrastinate". I blame Critical Miss for this misconception.
