Kickstarters you wish to pimp out

Post by Prak »

About a month ago, I was contacted by someone I'd started talking to about crowdfunding and social media with a job offer. He works with the Student Press Law Center, and is working with Mary Beth Tinker on a bus tour. They want to hire me as a social media director for the tour, and to that end, we've started a Kickstarter for a documentary of the tour.

The tour is about Mary Beth and Mike going to various schools and conventions and talking about free speech and fighting for that right and then hearing the stories the students and kids have to share about it. The documentary will then amplify these stories past conference rooms and auditoriums to the whole world.

The other thing the KS will do is fund that job I was offered.

If you guys can take a look, and maybe contribute a little bit, it would be much appreciated, and the cause is good. Pledge rewards include vinyl stickers, the documentary in digital or physical form, armbands, and various experiential rewards.

Have you gotten in touch with FIRE (thefire.org)?

Alternatively, if you thrust sideways, you will briefly be a fireball screaming across the sky at mach 14 before you melt from atmospheric friction.

I didn't even know about them, thanks!
And now I feel like an idiot because they're one of the Tinker Tour endorsers. I wasn't part of the endorsement gathering process. However this has made me think to contact all of our endorsers and update them.

A kickstarter I wish to pimp is the latest Hollow Earth Expedition book. I guess Exile games is a part-time gig for all involved which is why it has taken them years to work on Revelations of Mars.

Anywho, it's already met funding but with a week to go still. If you wanted to get PDFs of the other books, or hardcover copies of the other books those are still available at various donation levels.

The only one i wish to pimp right now is this:
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/5li ... me_popular
This is basically a new syndicate computer game.
Like Jagged Alliance, Shadowrun Returns, back to good old isometrics.
Right now, only about 3k are missing.
so if 30 people each gave about 100 bucks, it'd be done!
Welcome, to IronHell.

Peculiar properties of spacetime ensure that the perception of the magnitude of Soon is fluid and dependent, not on an individual's time-reference, but on spatial and cultural location. A marketer generally perceives Soon as a finite, known, yet unspeakable time-interval; to a fan, the interval appears greater, and may in fact approach the infinite, becoming Never. Once the interval has passed, however, a certain time-lensing effect seems to occur, and the time-interval becomes vanishingly small. We therefore see the strange result that the same fragment of spacetime may be observed, in quick succession, as Soon, Never, and All Too Quickly.

It looks like Satellite Reign requires you to have one of each character- you can't have two hackers and two assassins, or go all in with four soldiers. Which is slightly disappointing.

He jumps like a damned dragoon, and charges into battle fighting rather insane monsters with little more than his bare hands and rather nasty spell effects conjured up solely through knowledge and the local plantlife. He unerringly knows where his goal lies, he breathes underwater and is untroubled by space travel, seems to have no limits to his actual endurance and favors killing his enemies by driving both boots square into their skull. His agility is unmatched, and his strength legendary, able to fling about a turtle shell big enough to contain a man with enough force to barrel down a near endless path of unfortunates.

Unfortunately the devs seem to be chronic fuckups, I wouldn't bet on the game coming out. This is actually their second attempt to kickstart this.

They pulled the first one amidst all sorts of controversy. Precursor Games was formed by former Silicon Knights devs. Silicon Knights is right now just a shell facing massive debt, and the allegations were that the previous kickstarter was really just to pay off debts. They claimed that Precursor had no connection to Silicon, but then it came out they bought a large amount of assets and equipment from Silicon, and were essentially continuing a project started previously. Then people noticed that the wording of the previous kickstarter indicated that the million dollars they wanted was to produce only the first episode of Shadow of the Eternals, and that later episodes were also going to be crowdfunded. Then one of the founders was arrested on child pornography charges. Finally they pulled it.

There's a pretty good summary here

I seeee. I'd heard -something- about the first Kickstarter being pulled. I suppose it still stands. Mainly because I had a blast with Eternal Darkness and don't mind venturing a little bit for its sake.

Don't get me wrong, I loved Eternal Darkness. I just have a hard time seeing this becoming something other than vaporware. I just wanted the fine folks of TGDMB to be informed before putting money on it.

Thanks you for the info. I especially love the corporate bullshit on "We have absolutely nothing to do with Silicon Knights!...just a lot of the same people and stuff."

So, yeah. Buyer Beware, Den.

This is old news by internets standards but there'll be a kickstarter for a remake/reprint+prequel+sequel of the six (sorry, Angel) Way of the Tiger books. Too bad the books themselves will be super expensive. You can follow this link to preview the current project draft and leave a helpful message. :fan:

I hang out with the guy who designed This Boardgame like twice a month.

Reaper is doing a new Bones Kickstarter.

Bones is Reaper's plastic minis line, they're pretty good quality, and their first Bones kickstarter wound up giving away mountains of plastic. This one just has a handful (about 6000) pledges available, each $100, that get you everything. The only difference seems to be when your figures will ship.

So, LoadingReadyRun, a Canadian sketch comedy troupe (and the guys behind the Desert Bus fundraiser), are doing a kickstarter to fund 52 more sketches. It's funded, but there're some interesting stretch goals in the list, so if you've got money to throw at them...

Dewey Mack: KId Detective is an awesome kickstarter that has a good adventure kid spy story and also instructions on how to make simple spy gadgets right at home.

The creator is actually very receptive to critiques and requests. I wanted to get a couple of the maker faire variant editions so that I can gift one to the school and one for my kid and my nephew. Kickstarter didn't let me have the option. But the creator was cool enough to give me three of the books and also promised a couple more for the school district if it was possible near the end.

I am wondering if I am liking this on its own merits, or if it is just that I like the idea of being able to custom print minis.

This one deserves a mention solely for the risks and challenges section.

Ryuutama is a nice and light TTRPG, were players are "normal" people (think on those RPG NPCs) who started adventuring for some reason and the GM is the Dragon, someone writting their lives, adventures and achievements and subtly helping them if needed.

Pandante has relaunched. Sirlin may be a jerk, but he makes great games.

Here's the Watch it Played on YouTube.

Good lord that's some unreasonably high pledge amounts for those rewards... $10 for a bumper sticker is kind of sort of ok, but a shirt should be ~$25, Shirt+Mug ~$30-35, I could see ~$40 for shirt/mug/buttons... I don't expect this to be successful.

Love and Monsters Anthology with accompanying theme music.

A neat little artistic collaboration project run by a lady I play boardgames with. They could really use some help hitting their modest goal in the few remaining days.
