I'll be running an After Sundown campaign soon, and I have some questions about movement and combat. How does the game handle blocking people's movement and overrun attempts? For example, suppose a necromancer Khaibit and his shamblers are under attack by a werewolf. At the start of the round, the z...

Sorry, I should have said "rebuke undead" instead of "channel negative energy." I gapped on the name and didn't bother looking it up. Per turning or rebuking undead an evil cleric that's at least twice the level of an undead they successfully rebuke can command it indefinitely in...

Shadow Over the Sun creates a shadow using Create Undead, then channels negative energy to command it. He then feeds the shadow other creatures, spawning more shadows which are under his commanded shadow's control. This allows him to command an arbitrarily large and growing army of shadows to sweep ...

Bag of Transformation: This small sack appears similar to a bag of tricks, except it radiates an aura of transmutation instead of conjuration. Anyone drawing one of the small orbs out of the bag polymorphs into a random animal chosen from the same table as the same coloured bag of tricks for ten mi...

With the undead defeated, the party decided to search the area for clues about where they'd come from. Unfortunately the ruined laboratory held nothing of interest. However, there was a small pile of useful items where the necromancer last stood. Soraneus claimed his spellbook and a few hundred gold...

With the Farming District's spire activated, the party returned to camp for the night. When they arrived, a messenger from the Tribe of the Sacred Serpent was waiting for them. They'd found an outsider in their territory. She was acting strangely, and Osond didn't know what was wrong with her. He wa...

So bundle several important skills together per profession, roll on a chart of bundles, and then take a separate roll or two from the big skill list to pad them out. That way your investigators always have a few skills useful to actual investigations and some random stuff too.

Three Against the Serpent's Skull

For the past six months or so, I've been part of small group playing through the Serpent's Skull adventure path with a couple friends. I haven't kept detailed campaign notes, but after a great in-person session I decided to start. Cast of Characters Soraneus Ryumichi, Elf Conjurer (rampaging-poet) ....

So apparently Minecraft stores sets of chunks in different similarly-named files indicating which chunks are stored in which file. It also grows, shrinks, and splits these files according to some unknown algorithm. Windows Backup helpfully stores copies of each of these files. This results in duplic...

Speaking of spell nerfs, I see that Paizo did their best to kick directly generating wealth from spells out of core. However, a simulacrum of a genie is still high enough level to create more simulacra with its wish SLA. Does Pathfinder have any good wealth or construction spells left to dupicate wi...

The Runaan's Hurricane changes on the PBE look interesting. The bolts deal 25% AD instead of 50% AD, but they crit and combat stats are similar to Phantom Dancer marksmen can build it without gimping their single-target DPS. Ashe's Q is also changing so that you can't use it at all without five stac...

Also, because it's energy damage it automatically penetrates damage reduction. You may need to carry a few flasks of alchemist's fire and holy water to deal with resistances or immunities to acid, but the same principles apply to those attacks as well.

The two biggest problems I can see with it are that the PCs might recognize the effect early and that the gods all need to take their tokens at the same time. A strong aura of necromancy on those "tokens of faith" is rather suspicious, and the spell magic aura isn't absolutely guaranteed t...

I'm on the west coast, but I'm not too worried about the server move. Back when I first started playing League I was on a crappy WiFi connection shared by my roommates and the landlady's family, so I was at 100 ping pretty often. I agree that it's completely playable. The real problem wasn't consist...

They handled that problem just fine in The Legend of Zelda: Four Sword Adventures. In three-player mode, Player 1 controlled the extra Link by default but any of the other players could take control of him by picking him up and pressing the "direct my bots" button.

Sorry, you're right. It doesn't so much build up a wave as stop an enemy wave from pushing as quickly within range of the portal. That won't build a mega-wave to crash into the enemy base like a promoted minion or two can, but it can help reset the wave to a point closer to your enemy's base than yo...

The one good use I saw of Portal was a Blitzcrank top rushing it and just hiding by the portal. He could defend the portal with ease due to his high base damage and the threat of his hook, and early game the caster minions give him enough supporting damage that you actually have to shove his wave be...

I had a similar experience with a Soraka "support" that built AP carry and treid to 1v3 recently. Blamed the entire rest of the team for it the whole time and said we'd had "five chances to win" when we'd only taken their outer turrets and they'd cleared everything but our nexus....

I think the idea is to capture the chaos of a real battle where quick thinking and reaction times are more important than the ability to take ten minutes to work out the optimal solution. As a tabletop game mechanic, it commits two cardinal sins: (1) It relies on player skill more than character ski...

That and they advertise fast-paced combat while having a rule that introduces on-the-fly complications just over a quarter of the time. Honestly, I'd have people come up with ~3 "ablative meat" characters before play begins, and my very first house-rule would be writing DECEASED on the car...
