So I think that we're pretty hurt and if we don't have a chance to heal (repair) pretty soon we're dead. To give us as much time as possible to find something like that, I think we should use the last Lightning ability now. No point in dying with one unused.

I lean towards keeping the last one, but yeah, better to use it and live than not and be eaten by a spider.

The consensus seems to be to use the Lightning Bolts special ability, so the Tin Woodman will do this.

347

Your first bolt of lightning blasts the spider-thing from the floor and hurls it back into the cage. As you unleash a second blast, the cage itself becomes electrified, frying the squealing horror trapped within.

Turn to 436.

Glinda’s assassin is dead, but then so is the Good Witch of the South and so, it would seem, that your quest to find allies has been a fruitless one.

However, as you are leaving the palace again, you find yourself confronted by a pitchfork-wielding mob of little people.

“Who in all the marvellous Land of Oz are you?” one of them demands.

“And what, pray tell, are you doing here?” asks another.

You tell them and ask in return, “What brings you to the palace of the Good Witch of the South?”

“It was brought to our attention by the powers that be that good, dear, kind-hearted Glinda was in danger,” says another of the little people. “Unbelievable as it may sound, word reached us that there was one who sought to do the Good Witch harm – an assassin nonetheless!”

“Are you that black-hearted wretch?” challenges another.

“Of course not,” you begin, but before you can finish, half the mob have bustled past you into the palace while the other half take you prisoner.

At first there is uproar when the little people discover Glinda’s body, but once they have examined it more closely, along with the body of the Spider-Changeling, they declare you innocent and offer profuse, if worthless apologies.

“What can we, the Rigmaroles, do to make recompense for an unfortunate error in judgement?” their leader asks.

And so you tell the Rigmaroles about the insane AI, and how you are searching for allies to join the revolution to dethrone Oz the Great and Terrible. Fortunately for you, the Rigmaroles agree to help you.

Having mobilised the Rigmarole forces, do you want to set off for the Emerald City straight away (turn to 18), or would you rather set off in search of more allies (turn to 840)?

I think we need power-ups. Though it seems likely that any power-up will also threaten to do 4+ Endurance. I'm going to 3/4 vote for finding more allies, still feeling like trying as Dorothy if we die would be worthwhile.

Setting off in search of more allies.

840

Having agreed to meet up with your makeshift army later on, outside the walls of the Emerald City, you set off again to find more forces with which to bolster your growing army. However, you have not gone far when you hear a thrumming sound overhead and, looking up, see a trio of huge airships ploughing their way through the sky.

Two of them would be considered large by any measure, but the third dwarfs even these leviathans of the skies. Skinned with copper and bristling with harpoon nests it looks more like an ocean-going vessel than an airship. Six huge turbines – the diameter of each fan four times your height – are positioned in pairs equidistantly along its length, and atop the deck of the warship you can just make out what appear to be turrets and cast iron battlements.

As you gaze up at the flotilla in shock and awe, you glimpse figures scurrying about on the walkway that runs around the side of the gondola of the largest airship, followed by a lot of earnest pointing. Before you can take cover, one of the figures, who is shouldering a weapon of some kind, lines you up in his sight and fires. As you watch, the projectile is revealed to be a net, which opens as it falls, landing squarely on top of you and trapping you within its steel mesh.

But that’s not the only nasty surprise you’re in for today. The net suddenly becomes electrified, giving you a nasty electric shock, and you black out in pain.

Lose 4 Endurance points and, if you are still alive, turn to 24.

Unfortunately, the Tin Woodman is *not* still alive, as he is now exactly at 0 Endurance points, and has died a painful death. Ouch!

Since this gamebook hasn’t attracted as much interest as I expected, I will be ending this Let’s Play and work on my next title. Thank you to everyone who participated in this Let’s Play.

If there are at least 3 players who indicate interest in trying out another character for this adventure, I can certainly resume this thread. If you want to vote to continue this adventure, please select which of the remaining 5 characters to play as.
