It looks fun-but-forgettable.

The highlight is seeing dnd ip coming to life on the big screen -- both the owl bear and the mimic are fun -- but the CGI house isn't good enough for that to sell the movie in its own. Further, there is no bold visual direction, the script seems deeply tired, and the villain looks thin. But Chris pine is charismatic as are the rest of the pc-type character actors. That's good, because I think the movie sinks or swims on the ensemble casts chemistry. I'm guessing 70% rotten tomatoes unless the script is better than the trailer or the actors pull off a miracle. Box office probably breaks even, but that has a lot more to do with marketing than the quality of product, and I'm curious if they'll do anything creative to reach out to sue hard fans of the ip.

It's Hollywood crap, being "fun" makes it already a net gain.

The trailer looked fun, and hopefully will at least wash some of the Tolkien filth away from current fantasy gamers' zeitgeist.

Yeah, it looks better than I would ever expect a D&D movie (or just about any Hollywood "we licensed something a small group of people care about" movie) to be.

I haven't watched the trailer yet because I'm afraid of the secondhand embarrassment I'll experience. Is it tolerable?

It's good enough, it's even fun.

I'll watch for the snarky jokes and gamer puns.

I just watched the first movie... and I came to the conclusion that the reason gamers hate it is because it's true to source. THAT is the way an average game looks to an outside onlooker. Dumb characters, scenery-chewing villains, self-important NPCs, a grandiloquent plot with more holes than a gruyère cheese wheel, and overal cringe-inducing acting.

It was PERFECT. It was the PERFECT dnd movie! Almost glorious to watch.

100%. I love when they're fleeing the Town Guard, and a rando dwarf falls out of an alley and starts running with them for no conceivable reason. He's just the guy who missed the first session.
