That's the survival horror genre for you; most options mean death, and if the protagonist gets out, it's over the dead bodies of the other victims there.
No, you cannot rescue the nurse. You immediately die (and the book tells you you deserved to die for thinking you could prevail against those odds) if you try. More to the point--and as I mentioned the first time Thaluikhain protested that we should be going into more rooms because we were missing stuff--if you see 80% of the content in this book it means you're not on the one path that leads to the Kris knife and afterward to the red room.
If we had gone in the left door past the mirror, we would have gone down into the subbasement where the sacrifice takes place, and had the chance to witness the nurse's sacrifice and possibly get sacrificed alongside her, but just going into that subbasement automatically equals "you now cannot win the gamebook, the only question is where you will die horribly."
