Let's Play! Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords

Post by Count Arioch the 28th »

So, I've decided to do a Let's Play of a 16-year-old game that pretty much everyone has played to death to amuse myself, flex my writing muscles, and to work out the excess energy that being off Zoloft has lent me before I do something stupid.

Anyhow, I like this game. I want to share that love with the two or three people that might read this thread. If you're looking for an in-depth view of this game from a charming and well-respected author, look elsewhere. Seriously, there's like a million Let's Plays of this game done by people more talented than me. However, I will promise the following:

* I will play every side quest I am aware of.
* I will play Pazaak and win the swoop races without cheating. Good lord, I hope you fucks appreciate that part. I expect to wear out my f4/f5 keys.
* I will go through both light side and dark side story. In most cases they're identical, just dark side is needlessly dickish and antagonistic about it. However, in cases there will marked differences and I intend to showcase them.

As far as mods go, here are the mods I will be using:

* TSLRCM (English) + M4-78EP (English) (adds a lot of removed content as well as the droid planet, will go into more details as I come across them)
* Power Cost Correction (for TSLRCM) (corrects some odd force point cost discrepancies)
* Workbench Crystal Attunement (allows you to attune your own crystal, a bit of a cheat but fuck you, I'm using it)
* Hide Weapons in Animations (because all the characters gesticulate holding weapons and it's annoying)
* Effixian's Zeison Sha/Jal Shey Reskins 2010 (because the default skins look ugly in my opinion)

Anyhow, let's get started. Note that the game seems to be a dick about letting me screenshot during cutscenes, I'll try to either describe what happens or link to other, more talented let's players who recorded it.

So right away, we're in trouble. T3-M4, the best droid from KoTOR (I don't care how funny HK-47 is, suck it) is all alone.
Image
Image
Meetra Surik, our brave protagonist, is knocked out along with a very trustworthy-looking old lady. Can T3 save us? (note, you can totally skip this segment if you wish, but since I'm not a giant baby we're going to do this. I'll assume some of you have played a video game at least once in your life and will not nerdsplain to you).
Image
Well that tells us what our goal is. Basically you have to wheel around the ship and gather enough spare parts to ghetto-rig the hyperdrive. Let's get started (Note: imagine the PA system announcing what room you're in at every second during this point, even if you were just in said room a second ago. It gets old, fast).

Let's check this storage room first, shall we?
Image
Image
Umm, you alright buddy? (The screenshot doesn't really capture it, but 3C-FD is sitting there spinning his head around in circles)
Image
Now he follows me around, he's sure to be a huge help! (Note: no he isn't)

And in case you were wondering:
Image
Statwise he's identical to T3 despite being an obsolete model.

While we're tooling around, let's check on the meatbag organic passengers.
Image
Well, the old lady's dead. I'm sure we'll never hear from her again. It's a good thing there aren't any undead in the Star Wars universe. Could you imagine what a pain in the ass undead sithlords would be? Luckily, no such thing exists.
Image
The actual fuck? I didn't sign on to play Traveller... (note: there's literally a medkit two feet away, which I used on myself. No screenshot, but trust me it happened)

There's a locked area of the ship where you need to take advantage of Solo mode, one of the two droids operates an airlock while the other wheels on through.
Image
Well, there's your problem!
Image
There's a combat training box that lets out floating laser balls for you to shoot at. The game gives you a blaster and tells you to equip it.

You, however, will do no such thing. A new feature in KotOR 2 is unique equipment that only certain characters can use. Not everyone gets their unique swag, but generally when you do, it's awesome. The three droid party members get the most, and it really makes a huge impact. Remember how T3 was kind of a dead weight if you didn't need his skills? Yeah, he starts with a droid weapon that has infinite charges and deals 1d6 electricity damage per level, maxing out at 10d6. For free. With infinite charges.
Image
Yeah, don't equip the junk blaster the game tosses disdainfully at your feet, you have MOTHER FUGGEN FORCE LIGHTNING BITCH. :laser:

Later in the game he gets a shield with infinite charges and a droid utility that grants +3 vp per round. Good stuff, good stuff. I'll cover the other droids when I get to them (in Vanilla, they were dummied out, but the restored content mods add them back in. Again, will elaborate when relevant)
Image
Image
Image
Image
Part of your quest for spare parts leads you outside the ship to collect bits of broken shit that's not usable anymore. I just want to say for a game that's reached the age of consent in my state it really is pretty in some places, even if some of the 3-D models are a little off-looking. Side note: in the screenshot far away from the ship you see two hemispheres on the ship's surface. Those are mines. I have no freaking clue who would place them there or why, but we need one to blow open the hyperdrive door so we grab one.
Image
blow open the door

Image
Fix up the hyperdrive

Image
Tell the navicomputer to fly to the busted up planet nearby
So, hyperdrive is fixed, and heading to the Peragus space station. Everything is saved, right? Wait, what's that knocking coming from inside the ship?
Image
Crap...

Interlude: Character Creation

Post by Count Arioch the 28th »

Those of you who have played the game will notice that I skipped the character creation entirely. I did so because I thought it wasn't really necessary since the hero is unconscious and bleeding out the entire time I made my first post. So, we're going to discuss character creation. For the main playthrough I chose the canon name for the hero, Meetra Surik, using the default Jedi Sentinel character model.

Now, there are three basic jedi classes you can choose:

Jedi Guardian: You jump around like an idiot and get lots of feats. Think Obi-wan, Anakin Skywalker, Mace Windu. Honestly I've never played one (unless you count the heavy armor wearing jedi I named Varth Dader but really that was a gimmick), but since the force jump can hit someone outside detection range I'm assuming that multiclassing with Jedi Watchman/Sith Assassin for Sneak Attack can be pretty effective.

Jedi Consular: They get lots of force powers, and their force powers are harder to resist. Think Luke Skywalker, Yoda, Darth Sidious. The game says they're challenging to play but honestly? I don't agree. You throw force lightning and insanity and shit dies.

Jedi Sentinel: These guys stand between Guardians and Consulars as far as powers and combat goes, they become immune to many status effects and get the most skills. They tend to get shit on in a lot of guides but I like them. Think Rey Skywalker. And in my headcanon, Meetra Surik
Image
This is the default stat array that the game wants you to use when playing a Sentinel. As you can see, the game wants you to have well-rounded stats, easily able to shoot a blaster, swing a saber, take a hit, and boost your formidable skills.
Image
I AM HAVING NONE OF THAT SHIT, BOW BEFORE MY GALAXY BRAIN, MORONS!

Level 4 and 8 stat boosts? AGAIN INTELLIGENCE! I WILL HAVE EVERY SKILL! First and second feats? DEMOLITIONS AND REPAIR AS CLASS SKILLS, I WILL HAVE EVERY SKILL!

As far as skills go, my main character can take care of it all. This frees me up to use whatever companion I want, also it makes it a lot easier to craft things. Crafting in games is either useless or freaking broken, this is the latter type of game.

As far as starting skills, here's what I have:
Image
I've taken a bit of a hit to a few skills in order to have at least one point in everything. This will allow me to pretty much clear the entire first half when Surik is by herself as the game gives a variety of ways to get through and lots of little bonuses as rewards for having certain skills. You also get some minor skill boost gear right away, and Force Valor will be my first power which boosts me up a bit. I've got this by the balls.

As mentioned before, Surik will be light side. Most of the time dark side is the same, except needlessly dickish; however that will not be the case all the time. For one, a certain party member changes whether you're good or evil. A second member changes depending on whether you're male or female. I will not be focusing on that a great deal, however I will show an alternate universe version of events when it would be markedly different. Meet Surik's alter-ego, Evil Steve:
Image
He's got Persuade, Perception, Awareness, and Treat Injury, Empath as his first level feat, and will focus on gaining UNLIMITED POWAH!

Interlude over. Starting tomorrow when I damn well feel like it I will start posting actual game events. Hope you like story, because I'm going to display as much as I can.

Minor update: I realized I missed a lot of screenies in that first post that I wanted to put there. Going to edit it in now. New update tomorrow morning, have to get to bed early because I adopt a cat in the morning!

Pazaak is kind of stupid fun. But neither I, nor any other thinking person, can condone someone having to play a racing minigame of any sort, let alone swoop racing. That's worse than escort missions. It's a self-implemented challenge though, so I'll laugh at with at you as you go through it. Godspeed.

It takes 5 minutes to win at pod swoop racing. You're wanting to make me replay this, but I'm already replaying New Vegas! I can't just keep replaying Obsidian games forever!

How do you cheat on the races and card games? They are pretty easy. The racing is once you understand what you're supposed to be doing (trial and error for the most part). How does one 'cheat' the either though?

Simple.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/ ... =488929192

The swoop cheat removes collision, just hit the boosters. EX pazaak replaced the opponent's sidedeck with all -1 cards.

EDIT: Also, before I get started I'm making a few tweaks. Switching Meetra's Dex and Con (because +1 to defense is not really worth not having any implants at all), switching Evil Steve's Empathy for Class Skill: Computer Use (because why the hell did I take Empathy?). Also adding a new mod: Kill the Ithorian. It affects a minor quest to give a reward (blink and you'll miss it).

Expect an update in a few hours.

Part 1: Naked Jedi Interrogations!

Post by Count Arioch the 28th »

When we last left off, T3 had gathered vice grips and a roll of duct tape to get the power generator working just long enough to get to the nearby star system. However, an ominous figure emerged (fade to black).

Good news: I survived character creation!

Bad news: what the fuck just happened?

A neat bonus is that if you return to this room you can refill your life. As I'm a thinker and not a fighter I very well might take advantage. From here there's a hallway with a locked door on the side, a broken door that I'll need to bash open, and the medical office. Let's check out the one and only thing we can interact with; before messing with the commands there's some random audio logs to listen to, maybe this will help me figure out what's happening.
Log 253-12 [3 Days Ago]
Image
Only one survivor, placed in the kolto tank for recovery. The carbon scoring on the vehicle suggests it was in a battle, but no indication on who fired on it...
...Couldn't get much from the navicomputer, I'm surprised the ship was able to make it into the Peragus asteroid field without the asteroid drift charts.
Aside from the lone survivor, we recovered an old woman, no life signs. There was also a protocol droid and a utility droid on board - sent both down to maintenance while security sorts through the other items on the ship. It looks like the utility droid - a T3 unit - was able to get the ship working enough to get to the colony. We're prepared to..." [Holorecord ends in static.]
Okay, so we drifted in three days ago. Odd, I don't remember a protocol droid during the sequence with T3. Let's listen to more.

...another accident today, a detonation in the ventilation tunnels... if the lockdown measures hadn't activated, the whole facility would have been destroyed. Got most of the injured to the kolto tanks in time - but the rest had to go to the morgue. One of the wounded said a droid caused the accident, but we couldn't get any specifics..."
Log 253-18 [1 Day Ago]
(same image of the lady with the invisible eyelids. Does that freak anyone else out?)
"...miners about the Jedi, a number of the droids have been acting oddly, and not even memory wipes seem to be fixing the problem. There was a detonation in another one of the fuel vents the droids were working in - we deactivated several of them and moved them down to maintenance, but we're still treating the plasma burns...

Fucking skynet. There's other options to look at.

Definitely getting creepy here.

-Short episode tonight, it's 3am here and I worked tonight. Expect a meatier update tomorrow. Also I thought that typing out text instead of screenshotting every line would save time. Hoo boy, was I wrong about that crap, expect more showing and less telling from here on out-

Cont.

So, as you can see from the helpful UI I have no computer spikes so I can't trace where that order to murder everyone came from. Let's move on, I see two locked doors I can open from this console, let's check it out.

Image

Image
Storage room contains a medikit and some chemicals.

(Note that Chemicals are used for crafting, along with compenents. Chemicals are used to create medikits, implants, and explosives. You can also break down medikits, implants and explosives for chemicals, but you only get a percentage back based on your skill in Treat Injury. Skill of 20 or higher lets you get back everything, so we're going to wait until then to really get into crafting. There's a lab station for chemical-related crafting but we're not going to mess with it at the moment)

Let's check out the Morgue.
Image
I remember her. Too bad she's dead, I'm sure that she'd be helpful.
Image
This will be perfect to unjam that stuck door. Not a particularly useful weapon but it's great for bashing.
Image

Image

Image
AAAAAAIEEE! UNDEAD SITH LORD! :argh:

Meet Kreia. She's one of the most divisive characters in all of Star Wars. I won't go into too many details right now as the game pretty much revolves around her. She's a Jedi Consular, and her unique abilities are that any force power that increases her abilities is copied on Meetra, as well as giving a bonus to earned experience that scales by level. She also is the only companion that has a fixed alignment of 50. Your other party members will approach your alignment if they approve of you, and go in the opposite alignment if they don't. Kreia being fixed has a unique function, using a force power that doesn't match your alignment will cost more FP, Kreia never suffers any penalty. As light side has the best buffs and dark side has the best debuffs this makes her very versatile.

She gets derision for "being wrong" about things. Which she is about many things, but really she's pretty on-point about a lot. If you are confused about what she's saying, remember this:
Image
(On a side note I'm just now noticing that thing sticking out of my head. I'm sure I'm going to regret not picking a different skin for my hero but it's too late now)

Let's continue.

I heard your voice from the Kolto tankImage

Image

Image

Image
Oh so she was just CLOSE to death. That's a relief. Can you imagine an undead sithlord? I'm just talking crazy talk here, no such thing exists.
Image

Image

Image

Image
Interesting...
Image

Image

Image
Kreia cares not for your troubled backstory!

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image
When you see something in [brackets] that means you have a skill, statistic, feat, power. or other quality that will allow you to get additional conversation. In this case I can either sweet-talk Kreia into telling me more or I can simply call her on her shit. I choose to call her on her shit.
Image

Image

Image

Image
Yeah, the beige onesie and red converse ensemble isn't working out, going to agree with Kreia.

Image

Image

Image
Being polite usually gives you Light Side points (which is expressed as a bonus to your Alignment which starts at 50). Being a dick grants you Dark Side points (which is expressed as a penalty to your alignment). Once you hit either 100 or 0 you get a bonus based on the classes and prestige classes you have (although it will SAY your companions get this bonus, examining the feedback or character sheet will indicate they are not receiving any bonus). When you hit either 25 or 75 it triggers a future party member as well as one of the prerequisites to take a prestige class (the other is being level 15 or higher). Also you get new conversation topics at extreme alignments.

In addition, having a high alignment makes dark side powers more expensive and light side powers cheaper, low alignment will do the opposite. Having a high charisma can reduce penalties, but you'd need a charisma well into the 40s to make a huge difference at an extreme alignment.

So that's a lot to digest. I'm going to process my next set of screenshots for the next update later tonight. Next update: we actually do shit!

So, last session we talked with an old lady and got some good-boy points. Let's bust open that sealed door.
Image

Image

Image
On this corpse we find a vibro-cutter. Technically a mining weapon but it's better than the plasma torch.

Image
Another sealed door. We'll have to mess with it later.

Image
Robots! Let's kick their ass!

Image

Image
Help, help, the robots are kicking my ass!
At this stage, I'm not particularly beefy. I have no equipment, no force powers, and no companions to combo off of. I'm also statted out as a pure skill user. Despite being on medium difficulty, I end up running to the Kolto tanks a few times.
Image
Ah yes, another sealed door. That never gets old.

Image

Image
Kreia has telepathy now...

And of course, that door is sealed.
The next room has a computer in it. Let's mess around with it for a bit.
Image
There's an option to check the security cameras. Nothing stands out as noteworthy except for one...

Image

Let's check the audio logs, they're always exciting.

Image

Image

Image

Image
Well that explains the crappy selection of gear. Only tool-grade weapons and no armor to speak of. I had read somewhere that this segment is very much like a survival horror game set in Star Wars. Limited resources, corpses everywhere, plot told gradually through incomplete logs left behind.

Let's listen to more.
Image

Image

Image

Image

Image
So the droid problems are likely why no one's alive. Let's listen to more

HAHAHAHA WHO'S THIS GOOBER HAHAHAHHAHHAHA

Alright, some good news. Override the desk and it should shut up these robot assholes. Next session we actually do so.

Speak for yourself, I enjoy being reminded of how... exaggerated early 2000's video game characters were. They didn't have many polygons, and they put them where it counted.

I've been ruined by years of Skyrim and Fallout Big Tiddy Mods. I honestly barely noticed. (I did notice in part 1 with Mission Vao, but mostly because she was supposed to be 15 and it kind of skeeved me out)

BONUS CONTENT:

I was getting some screenshots and tried out some pazaak and swoop racing. I may need practice on both. But you know how the title screen changes depending on what thhe current sithlord the game is focusing on? Well...

I don't even know...

Okay, let's continue for real, shall we? When we last left Surik she was getting bombarded with text.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KL1FErzQWI8

There's a door leading out that thankfully is not sealed in a way that is immune to the door unsealer I just got.
Image

Oh hi Kreia.

Image

Image

Image

Oh wow, more robots. I never would have suspected.

Image

Image
After this you get the precognition power which rarely allows you to see into the next area. The game suggests that you save when you get the vision. I have never died when precognition popped, and every time I have died it was to some random-ass shit, typically because I wasn't paying attention or had a poor gear loadout.

Some uninteresting robot slaughtering later...
Image

Talkative little minx, isn't she?

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image
And now we hit our first level-up screen, so yay. My first power will be one of my favorites, Force Valor. This gives the entire party +2 to all stats and saves for 20 seconds, at higher levels you can further increase this to +3, then +5 . Not only will this make the entire party better at whatever it is they're supposed to be doing and more resistant to negative effects, but it has a neat little exploit I like to take advantage of in mid-game. Basically, what items you can craft is based on your skill modifiers (basically every skill except Persuade is involved in crafting something). Time essentially stops when accessing the workbench, so you buff up with Force Valor and get access to things you're not quite high enough to make yet. Obviously this gets better at Master Force Valor. Once you've hit 30-ish in all skills this exploit doesn't really help because you can already craft pretty much everything but it's good when you're just 1-2 points short of getting the good stuff.

Plus, I realized I haven't gotten the achievements for getting all light side/all dark side powers yet, so Surik and Steve will focus on getting all light and dark powers, respectively.

Anyhow, let's continue.

Image

This is the first locked box. Since Security was (to my knowledge) completely useless in KotOR, they decided to change it up a bit in KotOR2. You can still bash in locked doors all day, but locked chests? Bashing them open is very likely to break the item inside. Inside this chest we find that stealth field generator that the hologuy was talking about.

Image

Just put this on...

Image

Flip the switch...

Image

Sneaky sneaky

Image

OH SHIT THEY SAW ME OHFUCKOHFUCKOHFUCK

Note that Stealth was also mostly useless in KotOR, there could potentially be a stealth segment depending on who saved you on the Leviathan but I couldn't get anyone to see me regardless so I think it just doesn't check awareness during that segment, making stealth useless to invest in. Stealth will come up more often in 2, but you can potentially get caught.

Image

Where's the switch Hologuy was talking about?

Image

Found it!

Image

Screenshot didn't catch it but this door unsealed.

Image

Now that the robots in this area are passive, you can scavenge them for parts, and set them to defend you if anyone attacks you. Despite not being in any immediate danger, I do so.

Image

Eh? What's all this then?

Image

Image

So, they take orders from Goober McGee with the goggles and he told them to murder everything? Going to pay him a beating later. :toilet:

(cont shortly, next post will be a long one with lots of talking)

Now that we've messed around with the robots, let's move on. That door that unsealed seems to be a good place to start.

Kreia again

:gar:

Image

(my headcanon is that Surik is saying this in a slightly flirtatious manner. This is Atton, and he's probably my favorite character in the EU. I'm not saying I'd be gay for him, but I'd be willing to give him a platonic handyJ. Nothing gay about helping your buddy out.)

Image

(This doesn't appear until your second playthrough, he says something along the lines of "Atton... Atton Rand. Excuse me if I don't shake hands. The field only causes mild electrical burns." According to Wookieepedia his story checks out)

(I'm not a scientist but I think if it was that easy to detonate a planet it would have been detonated millions of years ago... But hey, this is space fantasy, not hard science fiction so let's roll with it)

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

(We get some more of Surik's backstory. It's good that it's done in a way that doesn't require NPCs to tell us about things we would already know)

Image

Image

(This is how the game works in the events of KotOR. By correcting Atton. In this case we're going with the canon, that Reven was a man and he redeemed himself before leaving)

I didn't put points in skills to NOT take the bracketed responses.

Image

In case you can't tell by his demeanor, Atton is the party scoundrel. He gets sneak attack and a skill set that revolves around sneaking, setting and detecting traps, and breaking locks. He's good to have just for that if you aren't a galaxy brain such as myself and take care of that in-house. Unlike Mission Vao in KotOR 2 he's actually pretty beefy, he comes with a unique armor that counts as clothing but gives +4 to all saves and defense (can't be upgraded however), has two unique abilities that give him a scaling bonus to all saves which increases as his HP drops, as well as being able to revive himself as long as he's not the last man standing. In addition he's got medium armor proficiency (and a very common early-game medium armor that gives +7 armor with a max dex bonus of +7 that is also fully upgradeable. Grab it if you can, but hold onto his default clothing for reasons I will elaborate on later.)

Unfortunately, like Kreia, he's going to be occupied in a second and won't be able to fully join you until later.

Let's continue, shall we?

Image

Image

Surik flexing that big sexy brain of hers.

Image

Image

Image

Now that Atton has unlocked the console (interestingly, the game reflects that by giving Atton some cross-class ranks in Computer Use, gold star to Obsidian), there are more of our favorite thing, Audio logs! I kid, but really I get it, this is a survival horror segment. And it is interesting to piece together what's ACTUALLY happened here (note: we're not even close to cracking the mystery).

However, I just realized the laundrymat closes in like an hour so I have to take care of a few things. More updates later.

One a side note, does anyone know of an influence guide that isn't half finished? All the guides I can find just have positive influence. I just need to find 2 more instances that pisses off HK-47 and i don't feel like using trial and error.

Don't worry about that. The bright red shoes are designed to distract from the jankiness of the character models.

Okay, got that taken care of. Let's check the audio log.

Image

Image

Image

This talk about a "protocol droid" is interesting, as I mentioned before I don't remember seeing one, just that butthorn that blasted T3. Wait....

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image
Huh, interesting. Let's try the Comm next.

Image

We got someone!

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image
We have a sequence with T3! T3 is a skill monkey. He's one skill point per level away from being able to level all available droid skills, so you might be tempted to raise his INT. Don't. When you get to the Ebon Hawk (spoilers, I guess) you can improve his memory core twice, giving him a total of 2 int! Once you have both repair and computer use to at least +19 you can fully upgrade him to allow you to use him to meditate as long as he's taken some damage. Also, he functions as a workbench so if you're every in need to upgrade items but away from a bench, you're still covered. We'll discuss upgrading more at a later point.

Let's roll with T3.

Image

Image

Get my loot on.

Image

Unlock the door.

Image

Basically, my strategy is simple: electrocute everything with my droid arm. As mentioned before, the droid shock arm is exclusive to T3, has unlimited uses, and deals 1d6 shock damage per level (max 10d6 but that's still a lot). Cuts through these robots like so...

Image

Image

Image

Image

Down to the fuel depot...

Image

Image

Datapad?

Image

Image

Good thing, we will make use of said mines shortly.

Image

More bad guys respawn in! I can use that new ion striker. Now, some robots will be shielded. Said shields? Blocks my shock arm. I could either shock them multiple times, or I can shatter their shields with the ion striker. Ion damage ruins shields and damages droids, but deals less to organics.

Moving on, in the room we spawned in there was a stuck door that needed ti be blown up to open.

Image

Set the mine... BOOM

Image

3C, old friend! Let's team up again!

Image

Oh...

Let's go through the last door in the room.

Image

Looks promising.

Image

Hey! I recognize that ship! Let's see if there's a way to get there. There's a computer terminal.

Image

Image

Image

Let's run a diagnostic.

Image

Image

The console has been re-routed to a terminal in the fuel depot then the line was burned out because everything has to be a pain in my ass. Let's see if there's anything I can do.

Image

We'll need to replace that conduit to open the Hangar door, but we can open the fuel depot, let's get there.

Image

Unsurprisingly, there are robots in the way. Zappy zappy.

Image

Image

What do we have here?

Image

Ah yes, I wanted to show this, the most useless droid sensor ever. It allows you to equip tier 2 upgrades. You get that automatically at level 7. However, since I literally don't have any sensors in my inventory, on it does.

Image

To the fuel depot!

Image

Small area.

Image

Force field blocking this way.

Image

Force field blocking this way.

Image

Must be that terminal.

Image

Let's check the cameras.

Image

There's a part of some sort there, along with more mines. I'm guessing that's the conduit we need to open the hangar door.

System log is interesting.

Image

Image

That goggle wearing dorkus is going to get it when I get my hands on him!

Image

Alright! Peragus escape hatch is unlocked!

Image

Image

Image

GODDAMMIT!

When we last left out heroes, T3 was getting shot in the fucking face. We'll find out what happened... much later.

Image

Image

A man after my own heart, that one.

Image

Image

[door opens]

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Note: If you tell him that he should go, he pussies out and you end up doing it anyway.

Image

I like tweaking Atton a bit.

Image

Image

yay

Image

You know, we actually picked up some computer spikes from T3's segment. Let's check out that locked entry in the medical room terminal.

Image

Image

Image

Something for later.

Image

To the tunnels!

Image

Atton bugs you through this segment. Unlike Kreia, you can tell him to shut it, and he will. I'll be nice this playthrough.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Let's check this emergency crate.

Image

Image

Image

Image

:thumb:

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Note: the game throws you lesser energy shields like lice, and the more advanced shields can be made with a trivial amount of components. By the time I leave this tutorial area I'll have like 12 not counting the ones I have equipped. Pop one on every time you expect combat, they last 200 seconds or until discharged. I haven't played on hard, but if you make a habit of popping your shields every time you notice they're down you should rarely run into problems.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Okay, not exactly stylin', but it's not as bad as the default undergarments. Time for sneaky sneaky.

Image

Image

Image

I find a broken robot. I reprogram it, along with beefing up its offensive and defensive capabilities.

Image

Like so.

Image

sneaky sneaky

Image

See this little bastard? These fuckers heal other droids. They also blow up if you hit them so if you're a melee build be prepared to eat some shit. You're still going to want to take them out first if you're not able to one-shot these things.

Image

Image

Image

There's a hot tunnel that periodically damages you as you pass, you can use the heat shields that you find to get through it.

Image

Grabbing mines

Image

Image

Now to sneak past these guys...

Image

OH GODDAMMIT. :screams:

Luckily, we have ion grenades. They're good enough to take all three of these guys out, and as an organic the damage you suffer for being at close range is minimal.

Image

Image

Image

The game helpfully pans over the console just in case you're an idiot.

Image

BALLS BALLS BALLS OF STEEL STEEL BALLS OF STEEL

Image

Image

Image

Image

THANKS ATTON THAT IS A GREAT IDEA THAT I TOTALLY WASN'T ALREADY DOING

Image

At the terminal...

Image

Image

Image

I also disengage the shields.

Image

Image

No more need to sneak, if I don't start a fight these guys won't.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

There's a few damaged cylinders here that you can't bash or use security to open. Using a mine will unlock them, but only if you have Demolitions. Galaxy brain wins again!

Image

Let's beat it.

Image

I swear, when I find that google-headed gormus I'm gonna...

Image

Oh...

Meanwhile, in the Alternate Universe....

Image

Mwah-ha-ha-ha

Image

HAHAHAHAH-haha

Image

HE BLOWED UP REAL GOOD!

Image

DIE BALL-FUCK

Image

HAAAAA- YOU LACK BALLS I HAVE BALLS BALLS BALLS TESTICLES AND BALLS

Image

BOOM BOOM, SHITFUCKER

Image

DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE

Image

I GOT SOME FOR YOU TOO BITCH

Image

TELL THE ROBOT DEVIL I SENT YOU!

Image

YOU WANT SOME TOO ROBO-BITCH?

Image

NEARLY UNLIMITED POWER!

Image

ZAP ZAP ZAP ZAP ZAP

Image

EAT LASER DEATH!

Image

I'M HERE TO CHEW ASS AND KICK GUM AND I'M ALL OUT OF GUM

Image

HAHHAHAHHAAAHAAHAAHAHAHA

I remember that you could get a bit of extra xp for killing all or almost all of the drones before you shut them down, but also that it was only enough to sort of matter at low levels.

Is that about what you're seeing with the difference between your good and evil runs?

I know for a fact that the very first time you can shut down the drones it gives you bonus experience for every drone left alive, making it a wash.

As for the rest, that's an excellent question. Both Surik and Steve are saved at the same point, right after getting bugged to death on Telos by everyone and their dogs asking for help.

Surik: 33,263 exp

Steve: 30,880 exp.

Note that this isn't a true comparison. You gain exp for getting information behind the culprit, letting the culprit monologue for a bit, and solving upcoming puzzles instead of smashing the consoles. Steve did none of that shit. But I believe I can say that solving puzzles and participating in the story is worth more exp than sheer combat.

I got some time before work for another speech-heavy update. Last time we left off Surik found the corpse of that goober in maintenance.

There's a familiar face...

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Enough with the evasive answers, already!

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Waitaminute...

Image

Well, I do like Juma Juice.

Image

Image

Image

Well that stands up to scrutiny. What's next?

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Wait, rob you of your what?

Image

Image

Well that's neighborly of him.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

(In case you can't tell, we've found the true mastermind behind everything. We still have some more details to uncover, but this model of HK Protocol droid can't help but brag about shit.)

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

(let's play dumb for a bit)

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Not going to lie, I kind of feel the ability to project force is important in diplomacy, maybe not outright violence but you should have a stick to go with the carrot. I dunno, maybe that's because my brain is broke.

Image

Image

You and me both, buddy.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Yeah, no. Not gonna sit around and wait for you to finish the jobs.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Let's pump him for more information. He seems to be awfully good at killing but not particularly bright otherwise.
Image

(missing a screenshot where I ask about T3)

Image

Image

Image

Image

:awesome:

Image

Image

(missing screenshot where I ask about getting into the Hangar

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

(yeah, going to ignore that one)

Image

Image

Yeah, that's going to stop me...

Image

(missing screenshot where I ask about the airlock)

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

"And the dead goober on the ground?

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Yeah, "believed to possess". I have an idea...

Image

This guy seems awfully prideful, maybe emasculate him a bit...

Image

Image

[Note: he says this perfectly in the maintenance nerd's voice]

Image

Image

Image

GODDAMMIT

Image

Image

Okay, I've heard quite enough.

You'd think if you had hyperdrive and Betty Bots and laser swords someone would have invented a tape recorder at some point. Let's move on.

In the adjacent room we finally find a workbench, so yay. With my skills I have no problems whipping up some ACTUAL weapons (no actual armor crafting, but you can get decent gear that you can upgrade to be awesome gear. Best gear is still dropped, but in general if you can't fully upgrade it, it's not that great.)

Image

I craft up some repair parts, some security spikes, and a longsword. In addition, I whip up a grip for the longsword (I already have an ionite edge which adds +1 ion damage/ +1d4 ion damage to droids). My mining uniform is limited on underlays, so I whip up an environmental underlay (gives me DR 5 versus fire and cold, and further reduces that by 10%). You know, just in case there's annoying fucking bitches that spam cold attacks later on (spoiler alert: there totally are and this can save your ass).

Image

Image

Next to the workbench is this item called "sonic sensor" and a note...

Image

Oh hey, there's literally a tape recorder next door, except called all star-warsy. Side not: in the Saga game one of the guys in my group is running I wanted to be a rodian jizz wailer who played the accordion. He said that it wasn't setting appropriate and to pike a star wars instrument. I put a ^ before "accordion" and wrote "SPACE" above it, still waiting to see if that passes. But I digress.

Image

Maybe he's dumb enough to fall for it, he's been pretty dumb so far...

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Pure Pazaak. Note that if you don't have the persuasion ability you can run around to other consoles with the Maintenance chief talking to get enough of a sample to fake it.

So let's get to the terminal, and try out our new gear.

Image

Image

Image

Image

So despite not being even remotely specced for combat, a simple upgrade allows me to tear through these robots like a tissue at a snot party. That's part 2 of how to win battles: Keep your gear upgraded. And T3 lets you swap and craft stuff on the fly so you can keep up with changing conditions.

Image

Big mining robots!

This post is starting to get a little unstable on my end, I'm going to post this now.

Let's continue. In the next room we can find the maintenance terminal.

I'm missing a few screenshots, but my first action at the terminal is to check the terminal itself. Unsurprisingly...

Image

That fucker...

Image

Image

So he drugged me and was watching me to make sure I didn't wake up. Bastid.

Image

Yeah, I bet it's unknown. Let's check some holorecords.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

So, not as malevolent as a thought, but still a tremendous moron.

Image

Checking the containment field.

Image

Image

(Missing some more screenshots, but at some point I checked the fuel lines and got this)

Image

Image

Let's run a diagnostic.

Image

Of course, why did I think otherwise?

Image

At this point we can open the airlock, but since there's an open turbo lift back to the starting area, why not check with Kreia and Atton?

Image

Image

Image

Image

Atton's a little touchy in case you can't tell.

Image

Image

Image

Jeez Louise, Atton.

"I found a ... talkative ... protocol droid in the fuel depot"

Image

Image

"The miners might still be alive, they're trapped in the dormitory section."

Image

I can ask him about the voiceprint, but I have that figured out so I won't bother.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

"So, why can you talk to me in my head?" (Paraphrasing as I don't have a screenshot. I thouht I was jamming on f12 on every screen, it seems I was a little rushed)

Image

Image

Image

Image

"What if it doesn't?"

Image

ICE BURN!

Alright, let's move on.

FROM THE ALTERNATE DIMENSION
Image

FUCK OFF WITH YOUR TALKING AND STUPID PUZZLES.
Yeah, you can smash the console and get past it. You miss out on a lot of EXP though.

So, let's go through the airlock.

Image

Oh crap, I remember this from KotOR 1. Get ready for slow-ass walking.

Image

Go out...

Image

Obsidian listened to your complaints! You walk a lot faster in this one. Except they just sped up the walk cycle so it's actually kind of comical. I took this screenshot just to say how this part kind of gives me vertigo.

Image

Blowed up planet.

Image

Image

Image

Image

WHAT DOES IT FUCKING LOOK LIKE I'M DOING?

Image

Image

(Fun fact: that ship isn't supposed to be here until the next cutscene. It's based on time and I fucked around getting neat screenshots so now it's docking way before it's supposed to)

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

HAAAA! HE SAID THE THING!

Image

Image

Eh? What's this then?

Image

... ... ... ... Okay, let's not jump to conclusions here...
In case you can't tell, shit's got real.
