The group's decisions during character creation may lead to more or less harmonious bidding. Having multiple characters stacking the same stat (I'm looking at you, Strength) or skill will naturally give rise to more situations where two players really really want the same card. In that sense it does help a bit to balance between asymmetrically powerful character options.
