What's a good one for writing stuff? Medium? I've heard Medium monetizes your stuff in some way

What are your goals, exactly? Different platforms are geared towards different things. Tumblr is good for maximum discoverability because its software and community are both heavily geared towards sharing everything, but it's a terrible platform for building an audience that follows your work, since it discourages people from actually visiting your blog, specifically, and instead just reading your content in their feed whenever they happen to catch it. Old fashioned Wordpress are the best for building an audience because their design makes your archives prominent and easy to read through (including making it easier to find your place when someone takes a break and then returns to the binge), but have terrible discoverability because there's not much mechanism for different blogs to share audience with one another on that platform nor is the feed particularly prominent or remotely good at serving up content relevant to a user's interest.

Basically, you can expect Tumblr to reasonably effectively advertise your work for you, but as a side effect of how it does that it means that your work's popularity will almost never lead to people paying any particularly close attention to you, specifically, unless they really like your work. On Wordpress, you can reasonably sure that most of your followers actually want to read more of what you've written and will attribute your work to you, specifically, rather than just as something that showed up in their feed, but if you want people to read your work you will need to advertise it yourself.

Medium is balanced along both of those particular qualities, and if you're not looking to build an audience or maximize the number of people who read any given article, then maybe you want something else completely.
