Trope where a stranger instantly risks his life for the Hero

Post by OgreBattle »

Like in Ironman 2008 where the Afghani scientist builds Tony Stark an awesome suit of bullet proof armor, then suicides himself to make sure Tony can escape. Similar happenings in Terminator 2 with Dyson.

A similar trope is where a Hero convinces a guy on team badguy to switch sides after a brief conversation, can y'all think of examples of this in other stories?

T-Al'c or however that name is spelled from Star Gate.
Welcome, to IronHell.

Peculiar properties of spacetime ensure that the perception of the magnitude of Soon is fluid and dependent, not on an individual's time-reference, but on spatial and cultural location. A marketer generally perceives Soon as a finite, known, yet unspeakable time-interval; to a fan, the interval appears greater, and may in fact approach the infinite, becoming Never. Once the interval has passed, however, a certain time-lensing effect seems to occur, and the time-interval becomes vanishingly small. We therefore see the strange result that the same fragment of spacetime may be observed, in quick succession, as Soon, Never, and All Too Quickly.

He's the one that was the captain of the go'auld's forces, but when told to kill SG-1 he decides that they're the first people he's ever met who could reasonably stand up to the enemy so aids and abets their escape and joins their team.

Teal'q becomes an equal member of the hero team, though, so it might not be quite the same. It is established that he'd long opposed the Goa-uld, just didn't take active steps before then.

In all fairness, he was shot earlier, and it's possible he didn't think he was getting out.

"Bob" takes a bullet for the main character in The Last Samurai.

Edit: Bob probably doesn't count as a stranger by that point.

That and Dyson was also convinced he was helping to avert the robocalypse, so I wouldn't quite put him into the same cliche zone as all the poor bastards that have died in service to someone's Marvel or Shonen Jump origin story.
