The Cheeto in Chief wants a military parade through Washington. I'm left sputtering in indignation at how childish it is.

It's brilliant. It's like he is deliberately trying to end the very concept of political satire. I literally assumed it was a (liberal) joke the first few times I read it.

I genuinely had to check that that image was mockery instead of a real logo.

Trump needs to be in a Generalissimo uniform with a lot of spurious medals, so that USA's transition to banana republic is trully complete.

The GOP double standards for the two memos are really telling. From what I can see, the White House is setting things up so that anything said in the Democrat's memo will just be more lies from the deep state, or something.

Kelly claims the bill is 'less clean' and that Trump will look to the FBI and DOJ for guidance. Basically, he's putting the onus of releasing this on them, and calling out Wray and Rosenstein by name. I read this as more of them trying to link the FBI and DoJ to the Democrats, so they can maintain their claim that the Mueller investigation is unfair and biased...

...you know, that claim that their own memo refuted. Assholes.

I see two possibilities for this:

A) trump is just dumb enough to watch tank parades in the PRC and think: “why not me?”

Or B) he knows this will draw protests from the left, and plans to spin it as “look how anti-military the haters are. Treasonous and sad.”

I mean of course Trump wants to deal with a drug problem by arresting poor people who made "bad choices" without any systematic influence. He's a republican! If you tell yourself the same racist lie for 50 years, then when it comes time to apply the same logic to white people your brain is already wired to think that way.

The War on Drugs was a racist action to suppress and oppress black people, but part of that technique was lying to the american people non stop for the last 50 years. Trump was never in on any of the secret councils, he's just one of the deluded public.

It actually is this, but specifically the Bastille Day parade in Paris was the inspiration.

That's a bullshit narrative.

He was talking about military parades in fucking January 2017. He didn't come to a love the idea of a military parade because he watched one for Bastille.

He brings it up every few months.

People love military hardware. I took a school firld trip to March Air Force base and got to look at the SR-22 Blackbird up close and personal. Crawling through a B-17 and a B-29 were cool. At the 4th of July fireworks rhe National Guard had a helicopter that people could look at. It had more visitors than the funnel cake booth.

Trump is never going to get the crowds he wants if he's the draw. The military is popular on both sides of the aisle and military hardware is popular with the general population. Having a military parade lets him pretend that anyone who shows up did it for him. Did you hear how he tried to claim the Women's Day Marches were supportive of him?

Eh, I daresay he may be in touch with reality enough to realise that it would involve giving a good kicking to lots of poor people, without caring about the racist roots of it.

This whole Porter thing is just gross. So, Trump is pissed that he was left looking so bad, yet... he stands by him as he maintains his innocence.

Apparently John Kelly knew about it for a long time and did nothing, and Hope Hicks was romantically involved with him and initially defended him in a memo. This is such a weird and creepy clusterfuck.

The opioid thing is a middle class and rich person's problem, more than a poor person's problem. Poor people abuse completely different drugs.

And it looks like what he's actually trying to do is arrest doctors who prescribe "suspicious" amounts of opioids, and pharmacists who dispense those prescribed opioids.

I don't think it is substantially worse than defending a pedophile. It is weird for Kelly I guess to be directly involved because he's cast as the straight man in the white house and I would've thought he would have ousted him just to prevent the shake up.

Trump blocked the release of the Democrat's counter memo. He claimed it was "very political".

I should have added that he deferred to the FBI and DOJ when they said he shouldn't release it, despite ignoring this same advice for the GOP memo.

I just feel like in 2018, these types of double standards just don't matter.

2018? Um. Obama vetoed a Republican push to enable people to sue other countries for terrorism and when they turned around to push that again and it came out that that was an obviously stupid thing to do they blamed him for not checking them on it. Double standards in politics has been a thing since I started being able to vote. The only thing different with Trump is that he's a worse idiot than Bush by far. He has saturated the news with his detestable actions and the worrying thing is that I don't know if we can go back from this. He's single handedly fucked any long term deal we want to make with other countries forever in the future.

Trump not releasing an opposing side's memo is just a nothing burger in comparison.

It's not a nothing burger. It's another violation of a norm, and 'normalizing' unacceptable behavior is his entire goal. Giving up on all the small things to fight the big battles means utter defeat.

The volume of violations means something, too

The democrats should just release the memo themselves. It's their memo. Presumably, they have a copy of it, and can just post it on the internet.

I'm not even sure what the point would be. The Nunes memo was baffling weaksauce that also directly contradicted the Republicans' own narrative. It doesn't need rebutting or contextualizing, it's an embarrassing failure all on its own.
