"Oligarchy" implies there's more than one power at play, and the purple fascist has been the sole property of Onyx Path ever since they infiltrated the moderators' board into a full takeover (i.e years).

What if it's slavery or confederacy apologia in a White Wolf or Onyx Path product?

I like Room 101. It's mellow.

I got banned from TBP because I talked about the Manosphere too much. I waited a year and then made a new account which I use to lurk. It was a bit of a shock to realize that after joining in 2007 or so that the major forum of my hobby had gotten so politically extreme.

It was a good thing in the long run.

I owe the manosphere a lot of gratitude, in the fact that they made me realize that I was sounding like a whiny bitch and there was nothing productive behind the thought patterns I had. (if you're wondering, I don't mean that as a compliment).

They can have you back, too.
Count wrote:re: Slade: To be fair, there are non-insane people that believe Ms. Rapp got fired because of harassment because gamers do in fact harass women for the crime of saying things.
Ehh... There are two kinds of people: people who have done something that would piss off enough people to make their employer uncomfortable and people who are unemployed. It's not fucking the goat that gets you in trouble; everyone's fucked their share of goats. It's the scrutiny and outrage. Alison Rapp was a semi-prominent feminist figure involved in the marketing for a couple of games which had controversial localization changes, so a bunch of people blamed her for those changes (because feminism, I guess?) and then decided to destroy her. They combed back through her life for things to ruin her with, and they found out that back in college she voiced some very questionable opinions and that she may have been moonlighting as an escort. But honestly Nintendo did not know or give a fuck about those things until someone dug that dirt up and made it an issue - which makes it pretty relevant that the reason all that dirt got dug up to begin with is because a bunch of misogynist shitlords wanted to see a feminist burn. You can't particularly blame Nintendo for axing someone who at one point defended child pornography, but it is a pretty good example of how mob justice is not always triggered by justifiable outrage over some wrongdoing and is often just about destroying people you don't like - this is a case where the "we don't like her" very much came first.

Slade's blatantly transphobic. Depending on how much other stupid offensive shit he's said and how easy it'd be to connect back to his real identity, I can see him having difficult surviving a similar level of scrutiny in a similar kind of PR job. I know I'd have trouble; while I'm pretty aggressively feminist, my posts on GamerGate probably wouldn't win me any points. It's not so much we all have skeletons in our closet, though some of us clearly do; it's that no matter what you have in your closet, it's going to piss someone off.

So, it doesn't let its wielder dominate the minds of the corresponding variety of men?

That is probably the most information I've ever seen on what exactly the Manosphere actually is. I'd heard the term, heard it referred to, but never really cared to look it up. Now I know.

I got the Green Manosphere, but my experiments in finding ways to reliably make men nauseous enough to be vulnerable to it have so far been failures.

Speaking to the "manosphere" there are several descriptions of it targeted to dramatically different men. You have Men's Rights Activists, Anti-Feminists, Monks (men who don't sleep with women), Conspiracy nuts, Pick Up Artists and Self improvement junkies.

I fall into the self improvement junkie side myself as a married guy with a family. My brother is gay (also married) and falls into the MRA/anti-feminist side. The first site that caught my eye was the one that finally gave me useful advice for the problems I was having in my marriage, as the standard feminist advice was sort of helpful but not addressing the fundamental issues. BTW: don't click this link at work, it's SFW content, the url is NSFW. http://marriedmansexlife.com/blog/

I'm a big fan of the slate star codex, as he interjects a dose of realism and keeps me from drinking my own cool aid.

I've been there occasionally, never joined, never really down anything. Heard the horror stories early on and stayed well away.

The only communities I've been a part of has been Mythweavers for the PbP and occasionally criticizing parts of Pathfinder on Paizo's forums.

So, uh, legit unrelated question about trans people.

Is it transphobic to ask what organs people have before sleeping with them, or is there something I'm missing from the earlier exchange?

As with most things, it depends how you frame it. It's simply rude to ask what the fuck someone is, but explaining that you prefer to suck cock or eat pussy (or if you prefer to poke or be poked, if you don't care for oral) establishes your preferences (or indeed establish if you don't care either way) without being overly judgemental about it.

It's entirely possible to be romantically inclined towards someone and not want to fuck them even if they do have the bits you like. As long as you can express your desire/lack of desire without being a shitlord about it, you can disappoint someone without being a bigoted ass.

I'm going to agree with Voss in the sense that how you frame it, tone, will matter a lot. Are you interesting in someone who you're not sure is transgendered?

Unfortunately, some people like to look for insults and you're screwed just by bringing the subject up because now they finally have something to get worked up over and enjoy some exciting drama by verbally ripping you a new asshole for even questioning them in the first place. So, I'd also say, be really sure it's worth even asking in the first place.

if they trust you enough to sleep with you they'll almost certainly let you know they're trans

i feel like this is an overblown problem. has anyone on here ever actually been on the cusp of having sex with someone and then Bam, Opposite Genitals?

e: also fuck the Manosphere lol, any group that's obsessed with the Alpha/Beta dichotomy is generally not worth the cognitive effort of engagement
