Dicepool: Xd6, TN3

Post by angelfromanotherpin »

So I remember a while back on this site there was some discussion about a system like the Shadowrun 4th dice pool, but with the TN at 3 instead of 5, for greater reliability and a less insane result bump on an all-hit roll. That appeals to me, and I've given it a quick look-over, and it seems to me that the main issue for such a thing (compared to SR or AS) is that since a dicepool is outputting significantly more successes on average, either the pools need to be shrunk, or the hits need to be devalued. Shrinking the pools is rough because the 1-6 scale is already very tight. Devaluing the hits comes with other issues, most notably that the all-hit roll's effectiveness bump would be cut even further down.

Thoughts?

Ubiquity system uses d2s. They have their own d8s which you can use for 3d2 and 1d2 and 2d2 too. So it cuts down on the pile of dice.

TN 3? I've heard of TN 4, which has some interesting properties due to symmetry, but not TN 3.
