Does this spell really take ten rounds to pull off and offer ten saves? Why would anyone ever cast a spell that has less than a 1% chance of working?
Probably because it's still holding or somehow impairing the target during the rounds they fail their saves.

I really like the way they did Wall of Stone's duration (it becomes permanent stone if you concentrate for 10 minutes, otherwise it's a short term battlefield control spell).

Then again, this was the only thing I liked in the entire 5e. So you may still have a point here.
