The wet thud of undead fists on undead flesh fills the room as the bloated zombies under Xaxus' control meet their fellows in a blind melee; there is no art to the struggle, just two groups of zombies stumbling forward and pawing at each other with wild haymakers. The stench in the room begins to be appalling.

Tim lets out a womanish scream and backs away along the wall; you see your comrade Lucas has turned pale, as though all the blood had left his body, and he stumbles forward stiff-leggedly in a characteristic shamble, groping for Tim. (Atani is closest to Tim and Lucas-zombie.)

Dorgan lets out a shout like a valkyrie, and swings her morningstars with all the force of an enraged frost giantess; the Pale Prince manages to dodge one of the deadly blows, but another catches him solidly in his side with such force that the dwarf hears ribs break under the impact. Nevertheless, the angry deadite's only response is a snarled curse in archaic elvish, and a mighty blow to Dorgan's face with his mailed fist. [5 points of damage]

Xaxus, Atani, and Gilles withdraw away from the throne area, seeking room amid the golden treasures, but Dorgan is not yet out of melee range.

Worse, all of you except Dorgan begin to feel nauseous and weak from the odor emanating from the Pale Prince.

Atani will move into melee with one of the uncontrolled zombies until he feels the nausea pass

Flintbeard makes a fighting retreat from the stink. If he makes it clear he'll draw his crossbow and fire at the undead prince.

Gilles draws back from the stench as far as he can, and then (assuming none of the party's in melee with him) fire at the Pale Prince.

The Pale Prince allows the others to escape his range, but as Dorgan turns to flee the stabs the dwarf in the back (-5 hp, bringing Dorgan to 0); the dying dwarf collapses as her life bleeds out, and the armoured figure drools and stands over her, as if waiting for what comes next...

Tim, still screeching in a high pitched voice, stumbles into Atani; the elf turns around to come face-to-face with Zombie Lucas, who punches him in the face (3 points of damage).

Atani, left with little choice, slices apart zombie-Lucas; the shambler puts up little resistance.

With Dorgan down (and out of the way), Xaxus, Gilles, and Flintbeard unload on the Pale Prince. Sling stones crack off antique armor, arrows sink with a thunk in pale flesh, and in an explosion of gore Flintbeard's crossbow bolt shatters its jaw, pinning it's tongue to the back of its skull. With nary a moan, the once-mighty Zombie Lord collapses to the ground in an ungainly heap.

The only other sounds in the room are the high-pitched whine of Tim and the dull slap of meat on meat as the remaining zombies battle it out, apparently still animated despite the destruction of their once-lord.

Xaxus will rush to Dorgan and make a First Aid check.

After that, Xaxus will carefully micro-manage the zombies under his control to eliminate each enemy zombie one at a time, as efficiently as possible, in the hopes that he'll have some zombies left over at the end. He will not enter the zombie fight though.

Gilles will join Xaxus in providing First Aid to Dorgan, hopefully able to stabilize the dwarf before (s)he bleeds out to death. After that, he'll look for the magic shortsword that was disarmed from him earlier.

EDIT: Gilles won't run into the reach of zombies for the sword. So if it looks like he'd have to enter melee for it he'll wait until after the battle.

The Xaxus-controlled zombies are outnumbers 6-to-3 and doing poorly. Atani finds himself facing two of the brutes, though he manages to dodge both of their swinging haymakers.

Gilles and Xaxus descend on Dorgan to render first aid. While badly injured and unfamiliar with the female dwarven anatomy, all they can do is stuff rags and bandages into every part of her that seems to be leaking, and leave the rest to the gods and the natural dwarven constitution (Dorgan is stabilized).

Tim starts narrating the fight between the zombies outloud, as if he was a stickball commentator at the Sacred Games, but makes no move from the sidelines.

Gilles notices that his sword is stuck blade-first in a small chest or casket near the throne, away from the general melee.

Xaxus will command undead again (if possible? PHB gives no limit) to try and bring more zombies under his control. If not possible, he'll wait outside the fight with scythe at the ready.

Sure, what the hell.

When struck by the hammer, the zombie bursts like a pimple on Dumathoin's ass, spraying Atani with pale yellow zombie guts; the elf manages to slice and dice the remaining zombie he faces against with little effort. However, two of Xaxus' remaining zombies falls, so that three of the remaining zombies break off to attack elf and dwarf.

Xaxus once again tries to invoke the divine authority...and comes up short; the zombies ignore him.

If any of the ceremonial weapons appear to be a shortsword, Gilles will grab it and attempt to backstab any enemy zombies in melee combat with his party members. If none of them appear to be shortswords, Gilles will make a Find/Remove Traps check on the chest his magic shortsword is currently stuck in, lest retrieving the weapon would trigger anything.

Most of the ceremonial weapons appear to be spears and metal imitations of shark-toothed clubs and other Malenti weapons.

Gilles carefully examines the box, ignoring the sounds of melee around him. It is a flat chest of dark wood, laquered and decorated with gold and mithril foil and studded with black pearls. perhaps two feet long and a foot wide, and eighteen inches tall, carved with images of swimming shark skeletons and skeletal mermaids spawning. It has a primitive latch with a bone pin, but no other lock nor sign of any mechanism.

Would Atani and Flintbeard be fast enough to back off from the zombies approaching them, then fire off ranged attacks?
