Working my way through the Dark Souls 2 DLCs.

Sir Alonne is maybe my favorite of the "large humanoid boss" fights. Along with the Lost Sinner.

I loved how Alonne made a little bow right before attacking.

And oh, the final DLC is coming in a few days. I wonder where it will be.

One friend of mine predicted the portal would be at Tseldora, while I think it'll be at Sinner's Rise.

I'm guessing it'll be at the Shrine of Winter (since the Crown of the Ivory King is supposed to be in a snowy era), but that would be a break from the trend they have going now.

Necro because somehow I have stumbled upon the weirdest writing gig of my life... a Dark Souls manga illustrated by some kid from Morocco. Will share when there is something to post.

I got both Dark Souls 1 and 2 cleared out. Every achievement unlocked, nearly all builds tried out from start to end.

Probably not going to touch the games again unless a friend asks me to engage in some jolly co-operation with them every now and then.

To be honest, and I may have said this before, I'm pretty terrible at DS. But I keep futilely plugging along.... (and participating in the fandom)

Well, what's your gear/build? We can figure out what you're using and how to use it.

No, please don't ask, because it's embarrassing. Thanks anyway.

I have been murdered by a guy using a rusty dagger, and wearing fairy wings. He had bright pink hair.

Somehow got up behind me and shivved.

Several times.

That's embarrassing. And I suspect my death is on youtube somewhere.

But allright, cool, cool

The bottom line is that I am not gud- my memory and hand-eye-coordination are compromised. If this were an NES game I'd be abusing save states. Wink

Not Dark Souls 2 related, but I'm currently doing an SL1 run on Dark Souls. I have also become a Darkwraith Dickwraith for the first time ever.

If you're playing on Steam and get invaded by a pyromancer in the Parish or Burg who spams Great Combustion and the parry button, I apologize. I swear I'll stop once I get the Dark Set.

I have had some serious issues summoning anyone or getting summoned in Dark Souls 1 for some reason. Nothing seems to be working.

There's several things it could be.

One, your level could be too high or too low. You

Two, the crowd could have just chilled out and moved to Dark Souls 2.

Three, pick your bosses right. A lot of people want help with Ornstein and Smough, or the Gargoyles, or Sif, or Seath. Pretty much anything that can kick your ass if you make just a couple of mistakes. (Or dragons. Lot of people want help getting tails).

Ever since Dark Souls 1 switched over completely to Steam (not going to miss Games for Windows Live), I haven't been able to summon my friend on any boss. We have checked the level range each time, but my summon sign doesn't appear on my friend's side, nor does his appear on mine. Oddly enough, I can still be invaded.

In other news, I recently got Scholar of the First Sin (the cash grab HD re-release of Dark Souls II), so I've decided to give that one a try. Lots of enemy and item placements seem to have been changed, but the areas themselves are more or less the same. At least there's a new shortcut in No-Man's Wharf so you don't have to run through the whole place just to get to the ship.

There was always a shortcut Smile Maybe a new one, but there was always one that cut off 75% of the level.

Oh, then I might have been misinformed. I was told some area got a new shortcut, and for some reason I thought it would be No-Man's Wharf.

Is anyone still playing this? I'm finally getting around to it.

I most recently beat Last Sinner, and I feel like the level design in this game is not as bad as some have made it out to be (or it gets radically worse later). Forest of Giants, Lost Bastille, and No Man's Wharf have all been relatively well-designed levels, even if Lost Bastille has too many bonfires. The bosses have been hit and miss. The gargoyles, lost sinner, and ruin sentinels were all pretty good, but the others were mildly boring.

I've been mostly two-handing a rapier, which is a lot of fun. I had to switch to a blunt weapon for the belfry gargoyles. I'm doing Scholar on PC with a 360 controller, and the game seems weirdly unresponsive to button inputs at times: mostly when I try to run. I can't tell if it's intentional.

There's probably a lot more people playing right now than normal actually. Just recently the Dark Souls community had its Return to Drangleic event, where people were encouraged to make new characters and play through Dark Souls 2 and do co-op and pvp as much as possible. It's actually still ongoing, and ends on the 11th, though the bulk of returning players were probably more concentrated in the first days of the event.

Bastille is the best level design in DS 2, Forest is up there. It does get worse.

Yeah, hearing about the event was what motivated me to give the game another go. I was invaded three times in the belfry area, but that is the only pvp I have had so far.

So I've gotten all four of the great souls, which I guess means I'm headed for the castle place and the king.

This game's difficulty is kind of weird. As far as I can remember, the only bosses that have taken more than two or three tries for me have been ruin sentinels, smelter demon, and executioner's chariot. But the boss run up to smelter demon was probably the most brutal part of the game for me so far. Even though I only fought smelter demon five or six times, most of the samurai knights guarding his area got extincted because I kept dying trying to get to him. I also had a lot of trouble with the beginning section in the pirate area.

At this point, I'm swapping between Ricard's rapier and the craftsman hammer. Both are pretty fun to use. The quality of the level design has definitely dropped, though. I've managed to get this far without putting any points into Vigor, but I feel like I should probably start boosting my hp fairly soon.

I don't think so? You have the giant spider, the sword lady, the giant demon, and Nito v2.

I beat the game, minus a few of the optional bosses. So now it's time to clean up and do the DLC, I guess. Like Kaelik mentioned, the level design definitely gets worse as the game progresses. The game's difficulty curved remained weird throughout. I would not be surprised if a majority of my deaths came from one of the following sources:
1. Fucking Armorer Dennis in Forest of Giants
2. The Ruin Sentinels
3. The statues with maces, either in Heide's Tower or the Dragon Shrine.
But most bosses and mobs went down with barely a struggle.

I think on my first playthrough, I died a fair amount to giant statutes.

On my second-hundredth, I died like zero times total.
