What kind of races will be playable in the game?
The game will ship with the new race of High Elves, Draconians, Dwarves, Humans, Orcs and Goblins. Races provide the base units for your realm and include core military functions such as skirmishers, infantry, pikemen, archers, cavalry and support units. Of course all these base units vary per race. Like Draconions ranged units spew fires and have flying calvary. Then the class updates add additional units, like an assassin or bard for a rogue. These class units take the base attributes of the race and combine this with the abilities from the class. So a Dwarf Assassin is different from a High Elf Assassin.
Alignment is now a determined by actions and no longer fixed per race. When you choose to absorb an evil race into your empire, your alignment will average out to this new alignment. Larger alignment differences will take longer to absorb and create unrest in towns. This makes for larger trade-offs and gets around the micromanagement of alignment at party level for regular units.

AOW Shadow Magic is the best. It takes time for sequels to start sucking hard, and "3" is just a little early (but possible).

Huh.
I wonder, just how many pages of bickering over font settings are there in the official forums? Thankfully, I don't think I'm curious enough to actually check.

Looks like there's some interesting stuff for people who want their overlord to be a Guy with Sword instead of a mage or mad scientist.

I like it. A little slow-paced for my taste, but not as bad as Age of Wonders 2 and SM were. Currently on campaign mission 2, and the value of aggressive play early on is not to be underestimated. You always want to rush the AI early on to reduce the number of cities they have relative to you. Turtling up is a bad idea unless you already have a dramatic advantage and some idea what the range of enemy capabilities are.
You retain levels and items between missions, but you get to re-allocate your build points each time. Situational bonuses against certain unit types are thus kind of worthwhile, since you only retain them for the duration of the mission. Each campaign forks after the 4th mission, and this might gain or lose you control of certain heroes.

It's going to be patched out, but the Theocrat's tier IV Shrine of Smiting can be really overpowered. It's counted as Devout inherently so it buffs itself and any other Shrines on the field. Its ranged attack is Long and does 10 Divine 10 Fire damage +2 of those elements for every Devout unit.
I hacked up a quick test and had my Theocrat Leader (also Devout,) and I think a Warlord Hero along with 10 Shrines. Each one was doing 32+32 damage a shot. There's a spell that gives you an action point back when you get a killing blow. Basically turned these goofy, floating Ark of the Convenants into In the Zone snipers from X-Com. EDIT: Sadly that won't work since the Warlord spell won't target machines. The Air Adept spell DOES work to negate Range and LOS penalties though.
Oh and here's some cheat codes:
Press Ctrl+Alt+C to open up the cheat bar (NOTE: you won't actually see the cheat bar open unless you play in debug mode) and enter one of the following:
PHILIPS – Complete all production in all your cities
GLOOMYCITY - Target city recieves -1000 happiness
HAUER – Levels up hero(es) and units in a selected army
LEEUWENHOEK – Complete current research
ERASMUS – Unlock all research
NEXTTURN – Advances a turn
REMBRANDT – Gives a ton of Mana
GERARDS - Instant loss
RUYTER – Spawn hero
BOSCH – Gives a ton of Gold
WARNING: The following cheats can cause crashes and instability
HEIN – Win the current map. If you use this in the campaign, the next map might not work properly! USE WITH CAUTION!
CRUIJFF – Allow units to move in the strategic map without using move points
SPINOZA – Unlock all research from ALL classes and specializations
HUYGENS – Free spell casting mode (strategic map only)
BARENTZ – Give vision across the entire map
