From the Depths of Wikipedia

Robotrek was pretty fun.
The items combining and the combos were great. They did lead to too easy combat once you found the right ones but that reduced the necessary grind so I didn't mind.

The story was great in that it started as a light story with a humorous tone, and you didn't expect it to go very far, but then you had a first twist, then another, and so on, each time widening the scope of the game. They were mostly unexpected and managed to keep the player interested.

I still don't know why people are so obsessed about Square's SNES RPG, while Enix (and especially Quintet-Enix) were often much better.
