I don't know what I clicked on to get there, but Lanchester's Laws are fascinating reading.

So, as I understand it, Lanchester pretty much only directly applies to skirmish lines. That's not to say he's incorrect, just... OBE.

One casting every six seconds at CL9 gives you a bit more than 40 liters per second, which is comparable to the flow rates of some small, but serious, rocket engines. Six items running at full blast through a well-engineered engine will put you, and something like 50 tons of cargo, into space. Alternatively, if you thrust sideways, you will briefly be a fireball screaming across the sky at mach 14 before you melt from atmospheric friction.

Not quite, because even with skirmish lines you have a refused flank tactic. But it's an interesting approach.

There's a whole field of study, called survivability, where engineers try to figure out the survival ratios of vehicles and people in given situations. Unlike Lanchester though, you probably won't find the formulas online.fectin wrote:So, as I understand it, Lanchester pretty much only directly applies to skirmish lines. Zang. I knew about Huguenots since a branch of my family hails from that group (on my mother's side they've got records going back about 500 years), sounds like Cagots had it many times rougher and I had never even heard of them before.Ancient History wrote:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cagot

I really like this because it parses something I noticed but never put into words.

Oh, well that's nowhere near as entertaining.
I think there should totally be a resurgence of Lesbian Pulp.

Why would you assume that hasn't already happened?Prak_Anima wrote:I think there should totally be a resurgence of Lesbian Pulp.

I think I have been on the receiving end of this before. Then again, I'm messed up enough to interpret not being kicked in the face as a term of endearment, so maybe I'm just weird.
