I would like to request a first day OSSR of D&D next basic set, since the PDF is free on the on lines.

That's not really an OSSR. We generally only consider something at least 10 years old for an OSSR. No, that would be material for a Drunk Review.

Not if you do it ironically.

What, "Ten years ago today D&D5 came out, and since our Robot Overlords allow us, we will look back at how it has shaped and impacted our culture." ?

... please do an OSSR of 5e from the perspective of a time traveler sent back to warn us about the robot uprising.

I just finished an OSSR, and have to disappear for the weekend. Someone else do it.

I've got a late class tonight, but don't have to wake up early tomorrow. I have hard cider in the fridge and some soda to mix with rum, so I might do a drunk review of the basic rules later tonight after I get home from class.

I will also continue my Bastards and Bloodlines review this weekend, I think.

OK, so i got suckered into playing in a game of the Battletech Mechwarrior RPG A Time of War, all Clanners Ghostbears during the Invasion Phase.
So far, it's bullshit. But i am not sure if that is all there is to this or if i am simply missing something.
So an OSSR of A Time of War would be really usefull to me right now . .

Juton did an anatomy of a failed design on the game, I think.

Ah,so he did . .
And yes, that sounds more or less exactly like what i encountered today . .
Can't make heads nor tails of the fucking rules system and character creation for some reason fucks over a clan assault mech pilot something fierce . .

An OSSR on the Buffy the RPG would be amazing.

Maybe The Magic Box too.

I might be willing/able for that one.

I guess Star Wars Saga and the Dresden Files RPG are still to new for OSSR's?

Apart from AH not participating, is there a breakdown of the structural differences between an OSSR and a Drunk Review?

Posted: Mon Jul 28, 2014 2:33 pm
by Koumei
The former is strictly for an old-school product, even halfway oldskool. The latter involves drinking. Pretty sure there's no real structural difference other than to say "And this is where we break out the (drink)."

An OSSR is for a product that's at least 10 years old, and in addition to the review itself, hopes to shed some light on the perspective of the time - ideas that became obsolete, ideas that lasted, ideas that were ahead of their time, comparisons to contemporary products, etc.

A drunk review tends to be about a product that, new or old, is just so bad that it demands holding up for ridicule, and also requires booze to get through.

IMO.

Yeah, that's pretty much it.

I finally found my copy of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and other Strangeness, so I can go through and do an OSSR of it.

I might try to rope one of my gaming buddies into tag-teaming it with me like Frank & AH do because I totally missed out on TMNT on it's first go around and my gaming buddy was a fan of it from the beginning comics and was playing Palladium at the time (I believe TMNT pre-dates Rifts craziness).

Correct. But it was a good sign of things to come, with the craziness allowed from the team-rolling method and the splat-books.

Any chance of you guys doing an OSSR or a Drunken Review on the Imagine RPG?

That RPG has to be the most fantasy heartbreaker that ever broke a heart. Like, just looking at it feels me with soul-crushing sympathy and despair.

Why?

Because out of all of the heartbreakers I've seen, it's probably the most pitiful. Like, try out that example CharGen. And look at some of the images with Google Image Search. Doesn't your heart just go out to it, not unlike that of a brain-damaged puppy trying to protect its family from robbers?

So, Orbis Terrarum made a showing in the games tent at LonCon 3.

I flicked through the rules, but gave up in despair and disgust upon seeing that there are mechanical effects to gender in a game published using Kickstarter. Anyone want to steal buy borrow steal a copy and Drunk Review?

Im still waiting for a Runequest 2 review together with those kickass chaosium supplements of the early days like Cults of Prax and Griffin Mountain.

And with the Glorantha renascence thats hapenning now, it would just be appropiated.
