Yeah, Narutaru is one of those cases where I didn't manage to get my hands on it when I heard the basic premise ("Imagine pokemon if the pokemon, while still just as cute, were a bit more vicious and actually maimed people, and the controllers were all a bunch of assholes like us!"), and then never looked back because someone who did get their hands on it saw "That episode" and regretted all of their life choices that led up to that moment.

That reminded me I never did finish Bokurano, since it was a damn depressing show. So I watched the next episode, aaaand suddenly a teacher making child porn. So my guess, Koumei, is yes.

Started watching a new series called "Norn" which is pretty much exactly what a latter era Final Fantasy anime would look like, more so than actual FF anime. The animation's fucking gorgeous, and I'm pretty intrigued to see where it's going.

Gate's good. I love the fuck out of Kuribayashi. There is something deeply satisfying about watching a 5 ft. tall girl shoryuken the teeth out of an asshole's mouth.

I have honestly forgotten her name because I have mentally designated her "Khornite lady" ever since the first time she decided her rifle was primarily a melee weapon with secondary ranged capabilities.

It is kind of amazing how Den taste in Anime is like 100% inverse of mine, where each season people post about they like stuff or are watching stuff, and it's all the anime I find most terrible.

Sadly seems like Khornite lady won't get to go dragon hunting.

Or perhaps when the battle is raging on and the protagonist and his harem all-female squad seem doomed, Khornite lady shows up piloting a jet, jumps out in mid-air and falls on the dragon, impaling it with her rifle spear that happens to be able to shoot bullets.

I managed to read the manga until the end more out of determination to finish what I had started than anything else. It gets worst.

The protagonist girl who had been abused, when her turn to pilot the giant robot arrives, uses it to laser snipe the (several) men that had abused her. But when she's locking on the teacher that raped her, she discovers that he's taking a walk with the girl's own older sister, seemingly on a date. The girl can't fire the giant laser without killing her older sibling, and thus the teacher gets away.


And later on there's the big revelation that the "giant monsters" they're fighting are actually other giant robots piloted by normal people from alternate realities in some kind of multiverse tournament. And the losers of each round have their earth destroyed.

I'm surprised that Koumei hasn't already posted something about Koukaku no Pandora. Given it's a show about lesbian cyborg magical girls. But yeah it's a pretty cool show, the Ghost in the Shell guy came up with the concepts so it's basically about GitS tech in it's early stages.

Been watching Divine Gate, in which the human, spirit, and demon worlds have overlapped in some manner and this gave some people elemental powers that they have technologically boosted to match what the nonhumans get. The titular Divine Gate is in some metaphysical location that the people with elemental powers supposedly can reach and open to have a wish granted, and the leader of an academy for people with super powers is rounding up a team to go after it.

I like it but hope we're almost done with delving into people's backstories and can get to the part where they actually start the adventure. We've yet to get to the part where we hear how this works and why it's a group project.

I decided to try Suisei no Gargantia, and this show is...

Okay, the first thing that pissed me off was the whole "bloodshed is taboo, we only arm ourselves as a deterrent" thing. Mostly because the author tries to tell us that immediately after showing us an exchange in which the main fleet and a bunch of pirates exchange machinegun fire and anti-ship missiles. Um. No? People are clearly using their weapons to fucking murder eachother. I just watched a bunch of people get blown up. Sure, I didn't see them explode into a fine blood mist or see their severed limbs go flying off camera, but let's not be dumb. That ship exploded while people were still on it. They're dead. And they died firing emplaced machineguns at pirates. You are clearly not concerned about using force. You are clearly only concerned about using force and winning. Also there's the whole not-so-subtle insinuation that the captive women are going to be raped. "Violent resistance just makes everything worse" is a really hollow argument when the status quo is being raped and murdered.

And the second thing.... where in the sweet fuck did that bellydancing come from? I am not principally opposed to gratuitous fan service. People like boobs and panties? Who woulda thunk it? But holy shit did that come out of nowhere and serve no purpose and not at all really fit the tone of anything and just what the fuck. I mean, I knew it was coming, because I've heard other people say pretty much the same thing. And I even figured it would be coming soon, because they were talking about a "carnival" or whatever. And yet it still managed to catch me completely off guard.

But other than those two moments of rage and confusion, the show is decent-ish enough.

I've seen only one example of "bloodshed is a taboo but everyone is armed" setting, and it wasn't anime. It was a book "Way of the Sword" by ukrainian authors Henry Lion Oldie. In the setting weapons are sentient and have their own culture, but can't really communicate with humans. In human culture it's a taboo to hurt other humans because it shows lack of skill (and because weapons won't let them), in weapon culture it's a taboo to hurt other weapon's wielder because that's barbaric destruction of property. The plot catalist is appearance of non-sentient deadly weapons.

Finished season 1 of Prison School, overall I enjoyed the manga more but it was a fun ride.

Yes. His other famous work is Bokurano, about teenage kids fighting in giant robots for the salvation of the planet. Lots of people die. Lots of children are very fucked up.

I stopped reading Narutaru when the protagonist got raped. Protagonist is 14 or something.

Yeah, I think Mohiro has only written like one work that isn't total Grimdark Rapefest...

...and it's about mountain bikes. One can't help but wonder if he's run over some people with one or had dreams of such before drawing his manga.

I'm in the middle of watching Digimon Savers, and just recently finished Frontier. I liked Frontier, and I'm digging Savers.

Something about Savers that struck me though is the swearing. So far, I've heard crap, bastard, shit, and bitch. Quite odd for a kid-oriented show, especially since no other Digimon series had anything worse than "damn". I don't have a problem with it, it just seems weird.

For the a bit more tech minded of us:
Bakuon!! < = schoolgirl Bikers
Haifuri < = schoolgirls crewing Warships.
Both have, of course, Fanservice in it.
This makes it hard to really recommend these to people who find that stuff squicki.

It's basically "Lolicon: the manga". One virgin teacher has to learn how to deal with a rebellious young female student that provokes him at every opportunity. I remember reading the original manga for this series with it set in 'Nam, did not know they had rolled it ahead to the 80s and made it into an anime until recently.

Pity they never made more than the 1 episode.

Two, while it's okay for teenagers to have consensual sex with other teenagers and it's okay to write stories about teenagers having sex (consensual or not), marketing such stories specifically to adults to get off to is still gross.
Three, sexual harassment is fucked up regardless of who does it. Now, a teen who flashes (or whatever) an adult needs therapy rather than jail, but it's still harassment.
Finally, yes, people have the right to publish and get off to all sorts of gross shit. If you want to pretend you're a schoolgirl/baby/baby animal while masturbating or having sex with your adult partner, go ahead. But don't pretend it's not porn.

And yes, sexual harassment is bad and it's actually one of the main topics that the manga explores-the young male teacher getting the young provocative girl to understand it is bad to go flashing around her body to try to get her way.

Plus Aoki is over 20 years old when the manga starts. And there's three older teachers of both sexes in the same school that get quite a bit of screentime, then Rin's adoptive father that also has to figure out how to deal with a growing girl. So there's plenty of valid reasons to appeal for adult readers.

Finally as for "sexist", there is a few bonus chapters where the author flips everybody's genres-and things play mostly the same, a young virgin female teacher having to deal with a provocative boy student. The story could've easily gone both ways. No genre is shown as "superior" or "inferior" to the other. Every character has their own personality and grows up over the chapters.

The design of a figurine they sell makes the claim that Kodomo no Jikan is not softcore porn hard to swallow.
