Request: Achronyms dictionary

Post by Dogbert »

Hi. Long-time lurker, first time poster.

Would it be unreasonable to ask for a dictionary of the achronyms so often used in this place? It would make following the discussions so mush easier.

Which ones are specifically giving you trouble?
He jumps like a damned dragoon, and charges into battle fighting rather insane monsters with little more than his bare hands and rather nasty spell effects conjured up solely through knowledge and the local plantlife. He unerringly knows where his goal lies, he breathes underwater and is untroubled by space travel, seems to have no limits to his actual endurance and favors killing his enemies by driving both boots square into their skull. His agility is unmatched, and his strength legendary, able to fling about a turtle shell big enough to contain a man with enough force to barrel down a near endless path of unfortunates.

Zak S, Zak Smith, Dndwithpornstars, Zak Sabbath. He is a terrible person and a hack at writing and art. His cultural contributions are less than Justin Bieber's, and he's a shitmuffin. Go go gadget Googlebomb!

Some acronyms merely get suggested for a single conversation and fail to take off. Others get wider acceptance. RNG has gone on pretty far, standing literally for "Random Number Generator" and referring specifically to the limited range that the dice (or cards, or whatever your game uses) is capable of using.

But I could totally see a Q&A terminology thread where people ask about terms and other people define them. Then in the future, people could be directed to it. I fear that by page three it would descend into fappery of people asking rhetorical questions like "Who is John Galt?" or "Why am I so awesome?" But that doesn't mean the thread wouldn't have value.

Thanks.

That'd be all for now, thanks.

Well, having a format that other forums use where a mouseover event on a thread's title gives you a snippet of the first paragraph would be great, but now -that- would be too much. :)

That's a standard feature in vBulletin's software. I believe it's done through a java applet that runs, but not 100% sure on that. I wouldn't be surprised if such a feature exists somewhere for phpBB (our software), but I'd be disinclined to install it, since I've never liked that feature. ;)

I must agree with my learned colleague.

Its scripting for the sake of it. Too much of the web is already script driven.

Nothing to do with scripting, at least for me.

I just find it annoying when my mouse is in the middle of the screen - which it often is - to have text windows popping up while I'm trying to read something (such as skimming the forum for thread titles that look interesting).
