Have we had enough of Dawinism yet?

I don't think anyone believes he's for real, and the show is starting to get old, eh?

Well I just used the ignore function. I hear it was implemented for that reason.

Remember, this isn't a reality TV show, we don't vote people off.

True enough, but I'm not sure he counts as a person....it's some sort of joke, obviously.

Ah, good point, Mister Stalin!

Okay, I wanna vote Mystic Mongol, Darswinism, and Books off the island.

I can do without people showing up en masse to just say we're stupid if we don't like 4e.

Hey precious, you're going to hurt my feelings. Can't speak for anyone else, but I'm not going to throw a hissy fit if someone doesn't like the things I like. I will, however, berate anyone who acts willfully ignorant or turns to blind rhetoric as an argumentative tactic. And I've been seeing an awful lot of it.

I'm up for banninating Darwinism, Piel and probably Books. Mystic Mongol is a tool, but at least he has made some actual arguments. I'm OK with people who make bad arguments. Darwinism is just spamming the board without making any arguments at all or even reading the posts he is claiming to refute.

Well, I find it interesting that we have a rule keeping us from bragging about trolling other forums, but someone coming here to brag about trolling us (Darwinism, Red Mage) is apparently fine?

Red Mage actually admits to registering just to tell someone they're an idiot.

1. Use Ignore. I do.

2. It should surprise nobody that people not worth reading flock to an edition war thread. It's easy enough to avoid a single thread. And edition wars are pointless, as I would hope anyone who cares has decided whether 4e or Essentials is worth using or not for quite a while by now.
When people start spamming into other threads and disrupting discourse elsewhere with the nyah-nyah-yah and "am not" "are too" style argumentation from that thread, then it would be time to consider banning.

3. "Red Mage actually admits to registering just to tell someone they're an idiot." This bugs me a little, but is well within parameters of prior arguments on this board. So long is also a poster doing something else besides just calling people idiots, I'm for letting them have their say.

Neh, Fair enough Josh. Though I wish we had that ignore thread feature that was proposed at one point.

I see he is trying to stack the deck. We had 7 people join the boards today and I think most of them are only posting on his thread.

Let's see
Books has 7 posts, 6 on 4E (1 here)
Mystic Mongol has 22 posts all on 4E
Piell has 6 posts all on 4E
Red_Mage has 1 post on 4E
Halloween Jack has 4 posts all on 4E
Crawfish has has 2 posts both on 4E
MadScientistWorking has 1 post on 4E

I think I see a pattern here.

If this isn't a solid argument for being able to ignore a thread, I don't know of any one that's better.

Lack of technical expertise to make the code changes?

And seriously, is your will power so low that you can't avoid clicking on a thread you dislike?

It's more a matter of not wanting to see it when you look in the board, or not having it register as having new posts.

Well it does have a certain train-wreck like quality to it...

But I'm beginning to wonder if it might be desirable to have a "add all posters in this thread to ignore list" quick link....

Edit: or maybe a mass-ignore by register date.
There does seem to be a swarm of recently registered people signing up solely to regurgitate stuff into that particular edition war. Either someone's doing some IP trickery or we've got a whole gang of 4e's signing up.

Zherog, is there a way to check the IP addresses of the Red_Mage, Books, Darwinism, etc.? There was a scandal-thing on GITP where one guy had a bunch of accounts and did some trolling--this could be similar.

Is there any way to check?

Are you talking about the trolling incident where the dude faked his own suicide? Or was there another trolling-based scandal thing?

Yes, it's possible for an admin to check the logged IP of a post, and I've already gone through the list of names tzor posted. Each has a different IP.

yeah, the faking of the suicide. That's what I meant.

hmmm they're all different. Well, I have no idea! I'll just not be clicking the edition wars page.

For the record, my ignore list has 31 people on it. So to all the other trolls on SA: BRING IT THE FUCK ON.

Do banned people get deleted and thus removed from /ignore lists?
...You Lost Me wrote:yeah, the faking of the suicide.
More trolls should fake their own suicides. As long as it involves faking it so well as to stop posting and go do something else. It doesn't even need to be a suicide - they could fake being murdered, imprisoned, moving to Sudan to help out for humanitarian needs, or leaving forums, getting a job and becoming a productive member of society. I really don't mind which of these they fake if they want to stop posting.

As one of the "trolls" from SA, I just have to say that we aren't trying to troll you. There is no concentrated effort to come to this board, it's just that the discussion was linked and we've independently decided to post our own opinions. If you think anyone is trying to troll you, please ban them, although from what I know they've all acted within the limits of what this board supports (Red_Mage called an individual out, but as far as I know that is an acceptable action on this board).

If the moderation feels that we are being disruptive feel free to do something about us, but as far as I know everyone that has come over has tried to make constructive posts.

No, banned accounts remain in the database. This prevents somebody from reusing the account name (or email address) at another point in the future (among other reasons).

Darwinism crossed the line of acceptable behavior a long time ago when he made a bunch of posts that very obviously were made without even reading the posts he was nominally responding to. He's such an echo chamber that most of us have him on ignore.

The fact that most of the rest of the SA squad have come in swinging to attack random individuals or to make tirades that very clearly involve not having looked at the rest of the board or even the entirety of the thread they are responding to has given all of us an extremely negative impression of the Something Awful Forums and of 4rries in general.

I put most of you guys on ignore, because your actions are completely indistinguishable from drive-by-trolling. You (collective you) are not making good arguments, are not informed about the argument space or the arguments you are trying to refute, and are generally making jackasses of yourselves. It is a troll invasion, whether it was really a spontaneous grassroots response to someone linking your board or not. I can't even tell because your board won't even let unregistered people read it, ad given the level of herp derp that has come over here from there, there is no way in hell that I would ever register there.

Anyone who shows up to do nothing except insult some poster over here, goes on ignore. Anyone who comes over here to complain about tone or word usage over here, goes on ignore. Anyone who comes over here and posts a bunch of "arguments" that aren't responding to or even acknowledging the arguments they are supposedly refuting, goes on ignore. Do you realize how incredibly mild of a heuristic that is? Do you realize how many of your drooling contemporaries that net catches?

You. Guys. Suck.

Fortunately, you'll get bored and go away, and I for one can't wait. Because it's seriously pointless even attempting to discuss anything with you assholes. You aren't arguing honestly, you aren't contributing to the community, and you aren't even going to stay to read the rebuttals. So fuck off and stop wasting my time. Hell, stop wasting your time.

If any of you had anything to say about anything, you'd make a new thread and present a genuine conversation topic. But you don't. You're just a bunch of 4rries who are trying to score points back home by flaming people who don't like a game where the designers present the idea that none of the monsters exist or affect the campaign outside of the few rounds that they are being fought in combat.

Even still, it's not that hard to fake.

Of course, it's not that hard to put half a dozen people on ignore, either. Personally, I don't see the point of any type of auto-ignore or mass-ignore feature. It seems too likely to filter out the wrong people.

Absolutely. Faking IP addresses is certainly possible, and the forum's limited tracking capability wouldn't provide me any way of knowing.

That said, I don't we're dealing with that in this case.
