Just a quick note on this. I can see that tactic working for like a phoenix or some of the other silly immortal pretenders, but have you guys *seen* a risen oracle? He's what Tartarians want to be when they grow up! Even outside of dominion he's pretty terrifying (not so good as to be able to take on fifty ancestor vessels while unkitted and with no alteration or evocation research, accounting for his one death, but pretty damn good).

He's an SC with good magic access, cold aura, awe, and fear, immortality is just gravy (albeit ALOT of gravy).

But seriously, the three or four of you who rolled Master Liches are cool too. Oh, and a fountain! Yeah, you rock that, guy! Gotta give respect to Utgard though, Pornstar Princess is a classy lady and you should be proud.

To the holdouts in Ligrea, servants of the remnant empire formerly based in Ulm:

Your blatant aggression against your Agarthan liberators must cease immediately. They worked extensively with your previous leader in your wars with R'lyeh, Gath, and T'ien Ch'i. In his darkest hour he even offered himself up in vassalage to the Ktonian Order, the acceptance of which the great Risen Oracle Ghede mandated was unanimous. How shocked I was to learn of his death and your sudden and stark refusal of all the generous offers our benefactors have lavished upon our people.

The Order of the Illuminated Ones was formed to bring light to the darkness that was the Iron Inquisition. We fought from the darkness for years against the close-minded fools that murdered our nation's heroes and cast the knowledge of blacksteel into oblivion. Now that we are on the cusp of reacquiring our nation's heritage you turn struggle to snuff out this newly kindled light!?

I implore you in the interests of reason if nothing else, abandon this fool course or so help me I will hasten your destruction! For the first time in centuries Ulm is a place of learning and creation: no longer under the mailed fist of the Iron Order or vampire counts, not host to dark Gittite sacrifices or a haven to foreign barbarians! We no longer ponder the enigma of steel, my brothers, but the enigma of death!

The Illuminated Ones have served their purpose and now you have but one choice... abandon the past or become it!

On a more serious note...

We've finalized peace with TC. It's just peace though with no other agreements.

We're also in talks with everyone else except Abysia.

Because really, aside from Abysia wanting to borrow the Alchemist Stone (which I won't lend to them lest they make castles out of fire gems) and me threatening to burn their outpost to the ground if we get "Cloudy with a chance of toads" in Chelms, there's no real point.

EDIT: Correction, we're in talks with everyone but Abysia and Ulm. Ulm looks kinda doomed.

See this is what I don't understand, we were all in on the plan to one degree or another. Because it was the right thing to do. But now Zin throws a hissy fit and threatens everyone and suddenly it's terrible? Can none of you grow a pair?

Zin accuses me of "pretending" to be anti-agarthan. Of *course* I am anti-agarthan, as any of you who have read my PM's on the subject know.

There was no double dealing, Zin just thinks if you don't hand your entire strategic plan to him on the first date, in crayon, that you are some sort of evil superspy. I passed nothing inappropriate to the Agarthans, although they are welcome to contradict me. Really.

Do any you have a plan to deal with the issues I outlined above?

For example the only one I think is indifferent enough to reality to actually attack me is Caelum. Send me the details of what Zin is offering you and I will explain why its a bad idea.

As I tried to do last time, but you wouldn't listen.

This after he threatens to be as big a dick as possible to you when you are following your treaties and looking for a little endgame fun. And you want to help him?

I have a better idea. PM me.

Well, let me put it like this -

Both of my neighbours could probably smash most of my power in three turns or less. I've made a bunch of rookie mistakes, and my endgame has massive holes in it. My maximum contribution to any coalition will be 'holding out for as long as possible (which won't be very long), so that my coalition partner gets a few more turns to reinforce and launch remote attacks'.

I don't care who wins the game, and I don't care about what different people have said to me during the apocalyptic whine-fest of the last few pages. Shit happens. Tempers flare. All I want now is a reasonably interesting endgame so I can explore the consequences of my mistakes.

The endgame you'll get if you attack me won't be interesting. I have single target spells that will ruin your day, period.

Castable by just about everyone. Welcome to Blood 9.

On the other hand, if you follow my plan, you get to live a lot longer and have quite a bit more fun.

Huh. And here I was thinking that Rabby didn't wanna play anymore. Or that he was just going to sulk in a corner.

Looks like he's coming out of the woodwork because nobody wants to PM someone who blatantly passes information to your enemies.

----

Anyway...

Rabby's talking about the "Send people to hell" spell of course. Which while powerful isn't that uber. Counters do exist. Heck Caelum has their own special counter albeit it may involve some sad decisions being made.

And anyway, the offer I PM'd to Caelum still stands. And trust me, it's much more interesting to be able to play with the toys I'm offering than to be bullied around.

Rabelais -- Hear hear. I like your style. I mean, I made peace with Zine because he offered "not killing me" in return for "nothing" which was an offer I couldn't refuse. And because I have a personal vendetta against Agartha. But I wish you all the best.

I actually accepted your peace offer as soon as I was able to log into the game and find out what my territory looked like. You then immediately retracted it. Anyway the key points are

--now that you've actually deployed some forces, you've proven willing and able to kill me. That wasn't entirely clear beforehand.

--TC's survival was not, when I joined the game, my big priority. I signed up for the game because the talk in the thread was that you were going to wipe out TC and they wanted a human player to make the conquest costly. My priorities for this game were to make it costly, and to get some battle experience for future games.

--I was *not* especially interested in being stuck playing this game for ages and ages, since I'm certainly not going to win, and I don't have the emotional investment of having played from the beginning. A long diplomatic stalemate might have been good in some sense for TC, but it was bad for me as a person, since managing my land was time-consuming and frustrating.

--Now, however, my turns go so fast I don't really care how long TC holds on.

I'm referring to the more recent peace offer when Agartha invaded me, actually.

The original peace offer in the early game is a different matter I'm not happy about.

I recall retracting that peace offer, but that was before we totally finalized it as there were questions about the Gathian territories.

It was pretty close - the reason for the retraction was Agartha (finally) honoring its treaty obligations and posting it publically. After that I had to drop contact since the Agarthan/Chelmian alliance vs TC was by that point in effect.

Of course, right after that Agartha then offered you a ceasefire. Which they then broke

You know what, thank you for reminding me why I've been wanting to strangle Agartha. Again. :bored:

I really should be hella mad at Agartha too for double-dealing too, but then again you're the one who got the short end of this stick.

Wow, hadn't read the game thread for a while.

I'm pretty keen for a war of some kind, just to get the feeling of doing something. Maybe Caelum and I could duke it out, as we are probably roughly on a par? I mean, we've only got one border space in common, but hey I am game.

With hindsight, Rabelais and I probably would have had more fun if we'd kept punching each other. I'd be dead by now, and he'd be about 50% bigger, leaving us with one leading nation and a fun war to set it up.

Really, that war was definitely the hindsight of my game I have to say :-D

Anyway, I vote for some violence to sort out where we stand. I'll admit that I am pretty pathetic right now, but us giants are nothing if not keen!

I am happy to announce renewed diplomatic contact between the nations of Utgard and Agartha as well as the signing of a Nonagression Pact, the first such agreement signed between the two nations in over a year! Further prospects of renewed trade between the two powers are believed to be quite promising!

Agartha hopes its similar offers will be met with such approval in the months to come.

An announcement: The Chelmian position on the Utgard-Caelian war is neutrality. We will remain peaceful with both powers. We will also continue trade with both powers. Chelmian ground troops and remote weapons will not be involved.

We will only intervene directly if Abysia joins in directly (i.e. invades Caelum or Utgard).

We prefer to see this as a civil war between what had been intertwined nations and it's thus not the affair of others to determine your fate. :p
