Hi Welcome

*insert quote about Hi Welcome being fine when used to greet new users*

Where is this quote, exactly?

[/TGFBS]

When Hi Welcome was originally banned from its original forum, it was accompanied by a phrase to the effect of 'This phrase is no longer acceptable except as a means of greeting new players to the community'.

New guy shows up...

Are you saying greeting new people is unacceptable?

[TGFBS]
No, I am asking you to show me the quote, or link to it, or PM it to me if I originally said it in PM.

I don't think you can, because I don't think it happened.
[/TGFBS]

Facepalm. If this is your way of saying you have no sense of humor, and that it isn't even acceptable for greeting new players to the community then just say so.

Roy, your "Hi Welcome" crap sounds exactly like a twelve year old trying to be a hipster:

Child: "Yeah, they alright before they sold out"
Adult: "When did they sell out?"
Child: "Oh, you wouldn't know because only I was there"
Adult: "..."

On the internet, no one can hear your sarcastic tone.
It's fine in casual real-time conversation, but here on the forums the threads are protracted, there are loads and loads of participants, so misquoting and misattribution disrupts the normal flow of conversation. Misinforming new people about the official policy is especially undesirable, because the internet is huge, and a rule that is obviously absurd here is probably in effect somewhere else and its violation constitutes a bannable offense.

Can we get off this derail and focus on how to get PL back into playing with these people so he can entertain us with tales of high failure?

I suggest bribery, we could take up a collection.

Right now I suspect this Friday will be a last minute cancel, and if it is I am asking the event organized to "contact me next time it's on rather than next time it is not on".

At which point it may become a basically permanent hiatus. But hey, who knows it might suddenly be on...

It's only misquoting and misattribution if you are a retard who cannot read the bolded part and understand that the phrase did not originate on these boards, and that therefore there was no misquoting or misattribution taking place. Of course you are a retard, and so is uber, which explains everything.

Now that would be an acceptable misunderstanding if it were not bolded, that's why I did so. Of course it's no secret you and ubernoob just want reasons to whine and flail about me, logic and reason be damned.

TL;DR version: The joke sailed over all of your heads, then boomeranged and did so again. Not that any of you had a clue to begin with except fbmf, as that is where the entire conversation took place.

This bit does sound likely. And if you mean the second part the way I think you do ("The rest of the group will trace the problems to him, even if that isn't actually true - that's how they'll see it.") then yeah, that sounds about right, so soft-banning (or passive-aggressively excluding) is probably what's happening.

Which is a shame. Not because I have high hopes of future games they do, but because reading the tales here is a hobby of mine.

Well anyway, grand status update is...

The anointed Friday of the tripartite-semi-blue-Aquarian-proto-full-moon or whatever it is that heralds the timing of this event has come and gone.

And then some extra Fridays just to be on the safe side that the neo-Aquarian-lunar calendar wasn't just shitting with me.

This time around the event wasn't even canceled at the last minute, it just faded into obscurity without any mention.

I'm sorry people but barring the unexpected I think I can now safely call this one outright dead.

It sounds like you need to grab The Bard and Barbaromancer and make a game of it separate from That-One-Guy And Wife. It might take some social engineering to keep The Bard from inviting That-One-Guy And Wife.

Re-reading I was struck by:
Quote:
Now go and READ the ring entry. No really. So yeah, it's (officially) worth a freaking fortune. But good god does it suck. The proviso's for use are massive and only one of it's abilities really matters at all. But it is VERY poorly written. Basically it looks like it can do as much as 114 damage to a single target as a single action once a week (outside at night under starlight only). Which is sorta nice, but not really level appropriate. Or it would be if the target didn't get SIX (yes SIX) very easy DC 13 reflex saves to mitigate the effect. The first three of those six saves knock off 36 damage a pop. The next three are only made if the corresponding first save fails and then knock off 12 damage a pop. The most worrying thing is That-One-Guy thinks this item may be too good by any measure other than it's raw monetary value.
Which just highlights the "depressive" side of 3E's biopolar method of translating things from previous editions.

PL, heres an idea.

Get everyone way up in the mountains
split the party.
Kill each character one by one. Since they are retards one and all, they will most probably rush to the victims aid.

Spare the Barbaromancer and gang up on the asshole wizard.

Save the Wife for last. Debuff her till she is helpless, crack her skull open and do stuff to her living brain. Also, nail them on the rock with icicles (its dnd, you can do it somehow).

Go play with the bard and the barbaromancer. Leave the house, re-enter and take a dump on the table real fast.

Call the kid later and play with him too. He doesnt deserve this.

All in all, there;s no point talking about sucky sessions when we can decide to do sth about it instead.

Quit. Just fucking quit. What a sad, sad situation.

I've gamed with grognards before, the peak of rage-inducing inanity being overall insistence on using the "Critical Fumble Table" for melee and ranged attacks (that further rewards spellcasters for NOT making attack rolls, which I pointed out three times in the course of our own party members bashing and slashing themselves in the face)

It was all I could do to not stand up and shout "FUCK YOU GUYS AND YOUR FUCKING FUMBLES", but no.. the DM's girlfriend made a bitchfest about a loli joke I made, which led to rapist accusations, etc, and I quit. The DM still likes me and values my opinions but at the risk of further arguments with the crazy girl it's decided best all around that we go separate ways.

I am surprised at the notions that the game went on without invitation to PhoneLobster. I don't believe that the game could go on without invitation to them. The players must stick together out of some dark momentum, especially if they haven't broken up yet. When PhoneLobster said that their "interest in sticking to this masochistic endeavor is waning fast", it meant nigh nothing, like a game warning where you know that that mechanic for failure doesn't exist, like true, irresurrectable death in the Sims, death by hunger in Neopets, and insomnious death in D&D.

Sigh. Can't believe I found this thread again, and had a direct question...

I clean, bathe, shave, work out, and get regular hair cuts. I use socially acceptable phrases in socially acceptable situations. I am not a furfag or brony.

However, when I make a meme joke about the vague term "loli" in a nonsexual manner due to the woman's shrill and babyish roleplay voice, meaning "anime girl" rather than "sex object", the woman became red in the face and would not stop screaming about the abuse of sexually exploited underage girls. I made no connection to Nabokov's work. It was that Red Button that should not be pushed (you know, the secret one they never tell you about), and I pushed it.

So them I trolled her with my demon character's prehensile thorned penis, my girlfriend at the time chiming in about her character's "acidic vagina", and another girl player's comment about a "fang-gina" absolutely drove the screamer insane. She wanted me out of the house.
So we made new non-demonic characters, proceeded with an Eberron campaign with a shocking amount of shitty house ruling, and I tried to enjoy it.

We played a few more sessions until the girlyvoice screaming became too frequent, and she began denying the DM sex if he didn't kick me out, so I did the right thing and quit.

For what it's worth, different social circles see different meanings in words. I was offended by the word "broad" (in a "That's my problem, I'll get over it" kind of way, simply replying with "Charming") as, where I'm from, it's about equivalent to casually calling a woman a stupid bitch. Apparently in most of the world it just means ~chick, gal, lass.

Or if someone went from London to San-Fran (or wherever) and said "Hey, can you kill that (the word is going to get filtered. Starts with f, means cigarette to the British)?" then he could very well get punched in the face. Or shot, I dunno.

And here we get to the point: of the groups who could even apply any meaning to the word loli (it's not quite part of the official English language, it hasn't hit that meme density yet where even news anchors use the word, and most Australians will assume you mean lollie, as in candy/sweets), many feel the word has creepy connotations. As in, a normal person says "child" or "young girl" or whatever, even in the context of anime, and a paedophile says "loli".

Yeah; a little girl is a little girl in anime nomenclature, loli is a genre of drawn child pornography, or referring to a character trait evocative of said genre of drawn child pornography. Also it is short for lolita (complex), which also is nomenclature for being a pedophile. Just using that word is kind of creepy unless you're in the Japanese doujin/anime fan community where the baseline creepy is already pretty high.

The barbed dick thing just poured salt on the wound. I'm all for a good trolling, but you kind of fucked up there.

Nah, I am SURE that if someone freaks the crap out over a vague reference to somewhat unappealing Japanese sexual jokes (which is where the bulk of "loli" references, if any, that most people are likely to encounter are, you know all the stupid fucking cookie cutter fucking "tsundere" characters "hilariously" accusing kids their own age they are attracted to as being "loli" perverts or something as they "hilariously" hide their incredibly predictable and stupid feelings, oh the laughter why won't it... er... start actually).

I'm sure if someone freaks the crap out at the mere mention of "loli" then they will just LOVE having demon penises and barbed acid vaginas or whatever thrown in their faces. I mean if there is one thing I have learned about RPGs is that if a mild adult reference offends people the only thing to do is drag out increasingly more graphic and juvenile adult material and turkey slap them with it.

Or maybe not.

Why are we having this talk?

What do you think I was trying to do with the girl, appease her? Good lord.
Everyone else thought it was hilarious, except for some guy shouting "NO" the whole time, right up until she pulled DM's-girlfriend's-privilege.

OK let's put that aside. Sorry PL.

Seems to me like a much better option would have been to tell the sex-denying girlfriend to fuck off. If a girl is willing to withhold sex as a bargaining tool then it is obvious she doesn't care about the guy.

Plus that's a really bad sign for the rest of the relationship going forward anyway. The only time sex should be withheld is when its' part of some kinky bdsm denial thing.

I don't really agree with that, since people do self-defeating and manipulative things all the time. We're a fucked up species, particularly when we feel wronged, and while it is perhaps unreasonable it is hardly inexplicable that someone might just plain want Sigma out of the group, period, given that his response to a joke gone wrong was to double down and troll for great justice.

I absolutely and uniformly support doubling down and trolling for great justice. Sigma made the right call, it's the only reasonable course of action against some people.

I inexplicably decided to resurrect this thread for no good reason.

I have decided to talk about this other group I was in, long long ago, in the era when 3E was new (and awesome) and it made no sense whatsoever to play 2nd edition... and they were playing 2nd edition... and I was in that group.

My Original brush with a "We Prefer 2nd Edition" Group
How the hell did I end up in this group?
I knew some guys in University. They had this group going I joined it to get some playing as not DM in. At the time my games as not DM were... almost none discounting various failed one off bullshit occasions mostly teenagers (and mostly 2nd ed).

I met them in Advanced Physics for Scientists and Engineers... or whatever that course was called. One was basically a geeky asshole star wars fan (Darth Maul in fact from the "That Time Phonelobster may or may not have been in a Brothel" story) and the other one was his remote control car hobbiest bitch and doormat. Doormat was a nice enough guy, though his jokes tended to so deliberately terrible as to reliably fall flat.

Now, I think I've mentioned some stories from my time with this group before, but this time I'll try and be thorough, though it HAS been, YEARS (and years and years) so my memory may not be perfect.

The Guys
OK So at the table there is Me. I'm being all small hairy and enthusiastic, pooosssibly a little over enthusiastic, if not manic in what maaaay be an attempt to compensate for being stuck with 2nd Ed in a group of people I don't really know.

Then there is Darth Maul. (Not in costume and mask, only occasionally has light sabre). As much as I may not know the group altogether well, and as much as this guy was one of my friends, he may well be the biggest asshole in the room, it is fairly evident. If for no other reason than his terrible Mick Jagger impression and his deep interest and pride in it. He played an assortment of characters. When I joined the game I think he was playing a borrowed character, possibly a Fighter/Mage belonging to the Fat Lady.

Next up is Doormat. A nice enough guy. Tends to be quiet. Occasionally comes up with a "brilliant idea" in game, that tends not to be so brilliant. And tends to largely be irrelevant because one way another is character is always unconscious or not there. So much so that I can't actually remember for sure what the hell character he played, I THINK he played the same character all through the campaign. It might have been a rogue. I have no freaking idea.

Then we have the Fat Lady. It's a terrible description, and she wasn't horrendously fat, but she was clearly fat. She was also very nice, somewhat funny, intelligent, independent and emotionally stable. If she hadn't been significantly older than me I'd most certainly have had some ridiculous little crush on her. Possibly the nicest person at the table. Pretty sure she was playing an Elven Fighter/Mage the whole time, or maybe it was a fighter/cleric I dunno. But she frequently tended not to do very much and tried to be cryptic about it when she did.

I'm going to call the next guy a Wild Eyed Goon. I think he played a fighter. He is largely irrelevant. Because even when he was there, like right there, at the table, doing NOTHING else, he tended to not have any damn idea what was happening and if his turn came around he generally was all "what? whats happening? where am I? I hit it! What do you mean hit what with what? I hit it! Wait... whats happening?". Then he moved to like Dubbo or something and attempted to play over speaker phone a few times. Yes. THAT GUY attempted to play over speaker phone. Yes that did NOT go well.

And then we have the DM. Not a bad fellow, and about as good as you could hope for in a bullshit 2nd edition adherent. But he was still a 2nd ed faithful in the 3rd edition era. So as much as he was the best of that ilk, he was that ilk and most of what it entailed. As a person he was a nice enough fellow, a young father worked off his feet trying to keep his old gaming group alive.

Then there is also "Girl who was never there". There was some other female player, who was never ever there. When I started playing I got her character. There was always talk of roping her back in, and even when I stopped playing her character the character was eternally hanging around doing nothing productive on the off chance the player would return. Which leads me into my first story about this group...

They Called Me A Crazy Cat Lady But WHO IS LAUGHING NOW!?"
for the next post...
