I'm actually pretty-well liking Gotham. I mean, sure, it's different from established Bat-Canon, but I kind of think that's a good direction to go. It's something new.
What I find really interesting is that it almost feels like they're setting up Jim Gordon to become Batman, who then maybe passes the cowl onto Bruce years later.

You should gain sanity for finding out that the problems of a region are because there are fucking monsters there.
I always have trouble remembering which use of the word has two ns

My son makes me laugh. Maybe he'll make you laugh, too.

Only now, I have started watching the animated Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant and Karl Pilkington "show". I have literally laughed until tears were running down my face, it's amazing. Sometimes I think it would be easier to explain things to a dog than to him.

Have you checked out "An Idiot Abroad"? It's a little more overtly sadistic, as they arrange events and activities for him to do that they know he isn't going to enjoy and are going to thrust him out of his tiny comfort zone, but it has some brilliant moments. Also, geography porn!

Welcome, to IronHell.
Shrapnel wrote:TFwiki wrote:Soon is the name of the region in the time-domain (familiar to all marketing departments, and to the moderators and staff of Fun Publications) which sees release of all BotCon news, club exclusives, and other fan desirables. Soon is when then will become now.
Peculiar properties of spacetime ensure that the perception of the magnitude of Soon is fluid and dependent, not on an individual's time-reference, but on spatial and cultural location. A marketer generally perceives Soon as a finite, known, yet unspeakable time-interval; to a fan, the interval appears greater, and may in fact approach the infinite, becoming Never. Once the interval has passed, however, a certain time-lensing effect seems to occur, and the time-interval becomes vanishingly small. We therefore see the strange result that the same fragment of spacetime may be observed, in quick succession, as Soon, Never, and All Too Quickly.
Order of the Stick just introduced best character in the whole comic. Dog that says, "Nod. Get Treat." and makes incredibly dark cynical statements.

Saw X-Men Apocolypse last night - and while the movie itself fell rather short of "completely rocked", Darcy's offhand comment following it
Concisely summarized half of all X-Men plots ever written.Man, Eric Lehnsherr is just such a flip-flopper.
"But transportation issues are social-justice issues. The toll of bad transit policies and worse infrastructure—trains and buses that don’t run well and badly serve low-income neighborhoods, vehicular traffic that pollutes the environment and endangers the lives of cyclists and pedestrians—is borne disproportionately by black and brown communities."
My hand slipped.Kaelik wrote:Order of the Stick just introduced best character in the whole comic. Dog that says, "Nod. Get Treat." and makes incredibly dark cynical statements.

See, and I figured it was the resigned fatalistic cynicism.

I honestly don't know. I don't remember one way or the other before I read your post, but now that I've read it, I can't not read it without hearing the accent.Prak wrote: Also, does anyone else read the cynical warg as speaking with a vague russian accent?
So, I guess the short answer is "Yes, but it might all be your fault".

http://killsixbilliondemons.com/comic/w ... ames-5-90/“Very well,” said one of the saints, “Here are your tasks. First, you will find the names of forty two men who truly have not sinned. For if you do not have the discerning eye to find purity amongst the decay of this world, then you do not have the means to pass through these halls with true intent.”
“Ok,” said Aesma.
“Then you must bring us the heart of a leviathan, which is only given to those righteous of purpose.”
“Ok,” said Aesma.
“You must know,” continued the saint, “You can not cut out the heart, or bring it by violence alone. It must be living, and we must see proof of its offering. Even the greatest of questing knights have been turned aside by one of the mighty beasts, for the smallest of evils.”
“Next, you will travel to the holy mountain of Saboth-Ur, where the monks of the Empty Voice keep the silence. For a year and a day you must dwell on that mountain and utter not a word. You must discard your possessions and go about naked as the day you were born, but rid yourself of all lustful ambitions and aspirations of the flesh. You must cast aside your battle consciousnesses and ancillary violence forms. You must rid yourself of the poetry of destruction, break your weapons, and purge the breath of death from within your lungs. Bring us then a token from the abbot there that proves you have undergone these trials. With the heart and token both, we will let you in to lay eyes upon the wicked King.”
“This sounds too complicated,” protested Aesma, “Let’s fight instead.”
So they did, to their great dismay.

So.
I actually liked the Warcraft movie. I don't like warcraft, the movie was reviewing abysmally, I only went and saw it because my girlfriend was super keen.
But... it was actually OK. More than OK, not great, but actually pretty much definitely at least Good. The rest of the audience seemed to fairly uniformly enjoy it too.
And I find myself actually wondering WTF is up with the reviews. OK its a computer game movie and a fantasy movie and a CGI movie, so a lot of traditional stick in the mud reviewers from last century in spirit or body will trash the fuck out of it. BUT... a lot of more modern reviewers seem to be trashing it hard too. But audience ratings are HIGH people are liking this.
Only, as far as I can tell from some early articles, maybe not all audiences. It seems like it's doing poorly in the USA, and pretty damn good in China and, well, the whole rest of the world.
Primary criticisms seem to be the story is too complex, there are too many characters, it's confusing, but also its either/both too accurate to bullshit game lore or not accurate enough to bullshit game lore.
Leaving aside the game lore arguments, that are bullshit contradictory insatiable nerd angst. (and oh god is so much of the angst from lore nerds who don't seem to know their own lore topics wanting everything both ways forever) I think we have hit another movie that once again exposes a major weakness in all too many North American audiences and reviewers.
They can't follow a fucking simple story. The warcraft movie is NOT exactly a complex story. It does NOT closely follow a huge number of characters. Those characters it DOES follow are readily recognizable and you DO have sufficient empathy and interest in the characters and do NOT need an extra fucking 30 minutes of one on one emotional bonding time made out of shallow intellectually insulting emotional manipulation to make you REALLY care extra hard.
WTF is wrong with US audiences? This movie. THIS shalllow fun simple movie is "UGH HEAD HURT TOO CONFUZED TOO HARD TO FOLLOW NO CARE ENOUGH TO MAKE SELF UNDERSTAND COMPLEX PLOT OF SHORT LINEAR STORY LINE!!!11!1!"
Every time it comes up it just reminds me of that stupid man in the iron mask movie and how it telegraphed and rammed home the stupid fucking "d'Artagnan is the secret father!" plot point for so much of the film the audience started groaning each time it came up and then at the unspectacular final reveal some fucking ass with a thick US accent was all loudly exclaiming "OAH MAY GAWD!"
You know what. Fuck US audiences. I am SO glad we are seeing more internationally targeted films that run stories that only appeal to audiences aged 6+.
