Yeah, Fairy Tale is ass. Like, when I watch it, it makes me want to strangle anyone who ever liked it or had a hand in it's creation.

I am just super super super super fucking offended that a story obstensibly about Wizards has somehow way less actual magic and way more melee fighting than a story about ninjas, or a story about people who's power is a sword that kills demons killing demons.

Like, the only thing I can imagine is that there is some guy locked in a cell somewhere who's only job is to make up new kinds of magic for fairy tale, but then, after he tells it to his keepers, they like to torture him by making literally every kind of magic and magician into a guy who punches people while being utterly stumped by out of combat challenges that would easily be solved by using magic for anything besides punching.

Fairy Tale is one of those manga that I gave up caring about reading, much for the things Kaelik and Josh noted.

I will admit to being pissed off when Grey forgets he's got battlefield control and terrain shaping magic, and Lucy sometimes forgets the non-combat abilities of her spirits. That said, the other main characters really are pretty much just combat monsters with relatively little else going for them, and when they've got the cats they aren't shy about going airmobile.

Yes, like the four different Rune Magicians who use Rune Magic to hit people and never ever use it for anything else except when Freces uses his Rune Magic to make walls that force other people to fist fight. Because Fist fighting. It is the best. But then, in all future encounters, he never uses runes to do anything but write a rune that makes him punch harder.

So. People who saw Guardians of the Galaxy and had strong opinions on it, could someone give TGD a 'thoughts and opinions' on the whole thing? For example, what you thought about the plot, your take on the characters, what you thought were the coolest or funniest or stupidest or boring-est scenes, what you want to be fixed or expanded on in the sequel, etc.

The plot is not terribly exciting or novel. What carries the movie are the characters and the dialog/chemistry. The setting designs are fairly pretty and complemented everything rather than being a jarring distraction, so good on their artists for that.

They could have the same cast/production crew and have the story be about whatever and I'd watch it. Gathering the infinity stones might be cool.

They also need a better villain and a reason for the people in the audience to care about Nova Prime and the planet that got attacked at the end of the movie. I was completely apathetic toward it while watching. And it's sad that Loki is pretty much the only villain any Marvel movie has come up with who has actual traction.

The film was definitely a case of "Star Lord and his merry band do something or other". Some guy wants a super-powerful artifact to conquer or destroy the galaxy. Our heroes have wound up with the artifact and wish to stop him and/or make a lot of money.

The characters are absolutely what carries the film. They've got a great group dynamic.

I enjoyed this interview with the songwriters from Frozen.

Before that interview I never knew that just with the Let it Go song they decided to totally change gears and rewrite Elsa from being the villain into being one of the goodish guys. Kind of explains why they did a shitty job of turning Hans into a villain.

I wish they hadn't made anyone a blatant villain. Hans could have admitted and apologized that he lied to Anna about loving her but not be a murderous psycho. He could have tried to kill Elsa because he saw no other option to save the rest of the kingdom. That would make it change from 90% great movie to 98%. If only I had retromancy powers.

So I'm reading the Amazon Worlds submission guidelines for GI Joe (not exactly entertainment, but related). Most of it is the standard no porn, no IP infringement, no extreme ideology (unless its presented as bad), no real people (not even Sergeant Slaughter) rigamarole that you'd expect.

Then there's item 15
The character, Snake Eyes, shall never be depicted or described as a fan of the New York Yankees.

Maybe I've been playing Crusader Kings II too much, but Hans seemed less murderous psychopath and more bog standard ambitious vassal. Marry princess, knock up princess, kill male and older female siblings (and their children, if necessary), kill the monarch, kill your wife, rule.

If anything, Anna was hopelessly naive to not address Jure uxoris and dynastic issues. With the crown defaulting to Hans due to Jure uxoris, he needed a remarkably small amount of bloodshed to gain the crown. She should have got a rather extensive prenump, which could ahve shut that entire plot down.

The rules presented are very adamant about no crossovers. Kindle Worlds only has the rights to GI JOE, not the Transformers. And nothing from the Paramount movies, for some reason. I assume because neither Hasbro nor Amazon wants to pay Paramount enormous sums of money.

But I'm sure that any character other than Snake Eyes can be Yankees fans.

Unless they're with Cobra. There's a separate rule that Cobra can't be fans of anything that exists in the real world, because Hasbro doesn't want to get sued.

However much a while ago you may please, there lived a rancorous trio of toads. Wickedly clever toads were they, and pranksters of the highest order! Each day they'd hatch their schemes at the bottom of a wishing well.

One day a traveler stopped to fill his waterskin at the well. He threw a copper coin down into the water, smiling at the distant plop it made, and had just wished silently for a great fortune when something came hurtling back at him.

"What's this!" said the spry traveler as he snatched the pebble midair. It was a shiny black pebble no bigger than a bean, and still wet. A croaking voice followed up the well.

"Thank you for your business!" declared the voice loudly, above the other toads' shushes and titters. "That's one toad coin for one copper, standard exchange."

"Toad coin?" wondered the traveler aloud as he examined the pebble. It was mostly smooth but for one patch that was nobbled with a little chip, which is to say it did not look all that different from any other pebble, really, and certainly nothing like a coin.

"What manner of coin has no head or tail, bears no seal or flag, and is inscribed with no amount? Who backs this toad coin, the toad bank? Or the toad treasury!?" The traveler laughed, but the toads croaked sternly back at him.

"Do not be foolish! The king's coin has no real strength, it can be forged! Counterfeits flood the streets! But a toad coin is unique- have you ever seen one exactly this shape?"

The traveler had to admit, he had never seen a pebble exactly the same shape as this one, for all pebbles were unique. So he threw in a silver coin, receiving another pebble.

"Just one toad coin for a silver, the same as for a copper a second before!?" he balked.

"The exchange changes fast!" the toads giggled back. "But now you have two silvers' worth, 9 coppers' profit! And nobody else can have that same pebble, so it's utterly safe!"

"But what's to keep my toad coins from losing their value overnight?" asked the traveler.

"What's to keep your toad coins from gaining in value overnight!?" rebutted the toads.

The traveler, his concerns satisfied, emptied his pockets into the well, striking the toads with heavy gold coins and killing them, and shortly thereafter starved to death himself.

I've been reading More than Meets the Eye for awhile now, and the series is truly breathtaking in how awesome it is. But the latest issue was in particular quite amazing.

Context, Kamala Khan is the new Ms. Marvel but she's afraid to tell her parents. Her parents, of course, notice that she's sneaking out at night and become very concerned. They have her meet with Sheik Abdullah, the leader of their mosque who was last seen giving a rather out of touch lecture about guarding your chastity and the evils of boy-girl parties. She tells him that she's helping people but refused to give details. And this is his response.

My god a reasonable Muslim religious leader in a comic book. And it's not even a book about terrorism.

I was insomnariffic last night and watched Forward unto Dawn on Amazon Prime, expecting it to be meh. Was astounded at how above meh it was. I don't play Halo and only mildly know anything about the verse it resides within but still quite enjoyed that flick.

[disclaimer: I don't know if the youtube movie is exactly the same as the Amazon Prime one, but it looks bout the same from the quick skim I just did]

I was also pleasantly surprised by Forward Unto Dawn. I've played Halo 1, 2, 3 and ODST and read a lot of the expanded universe, so I definitely dug it.
