Warhammer 40K Inquisition Campaign: The Logs

Post by Zinegata »

Prologue: The Sleeping Pilgrims of Luther

(Featuring Koumei playing as Sister Solaria, and the_taken as Sister Alita)

<GM_Zine> ~Official Prologue Start~
<Sister_Alita> (look up repentia-chan)
<GM_Zine> It is the 41st Millenium.
<GM_Zine> Mankind is beset on all sides by enemies.
<GM_Zine> The Galaxy is gripped by war.
<GM_Zine> The forces of Chaos are once again pouring out of the Eye of Terror, as the 13th Black Crusade has reached its climax
<GM_Zine> But on the Cardinal World of Luther... things are different
<GM_Zine> Gleaming cathedrals cover the tiny world's surface, all proclaiming their love for the Emperor
<GM_Zine> Here there is no war, only pilgrims...
<GM_Zine> ... And yet walking amongst the pilgrims... two members of the Sororitas are on a mission...
<GM_Zine> (Alita, Solaria, you have just landed on the planet Luther. You were landed via shuttle from the Inquisition Cruiser "Hath No Greater Lover". Your Inquisitor, Makarov, has sent you down to the planet on a vague mission)
<GM_Zine> <Makarov> *voxing from orbit* ... Sisters Solaria and Alita. Please respond. Have you made planetfall safely?
<Sister_Solaria> "Affirmitive. We have just made planetfall. Everything appears to be in order."
<GM_Zine> (You are both equipped with powerful micro-breads, BTW, letting you talk to the orbital support above)
<Sister_Alita> "..."
<GM_Zine> (*Also, it should be "Hath No Greater Love", not Lover >_>)
<Sister_Alita> (Actually, these Typos are fun, lets just roll with them)
<GM_Zine> <Makarov> *voxing from orbit* ... Sister Solaria... I trust you at least are not as mute as our... Repentia.
<Sister_Solaria> "Sister Alita, unless you have taken a vow of silence I would ask that you respond to our Inquisitor." Solaria rebuked her companion. "No, I am quite talkative"
<GM_Zine> There are thousands of pilgrims around you. Some have noticed the sister in power armor and the sister in parchment. A few stare. Mostly men.
<Sister_Alita> "My apologies. I assumed Sister Solaria spoke for the both of us."
<GM_Zine> <Makarov> Excellent. I assume you both made planetfall and weren't overrun by groping lechs yet?
<Sister_Alita> "No groping lechs, sire."
<GM_Zine> <Makarov> Good. I apologize for dropping you both in this world without a briefing... but I fear the ship may have been compromised.
<GM_Zine> <Makarov> I am talking to the two of you on a secure voice link. No one else is monitoring our traffic except for my Magos and the ship's Captain
<GM_Zine> <Makarov> I need the two of you to proceed to the Cathedral of Endless Exaltation.
<GM_Zine> <Makarov> Pretend to be pilgrims.
<GM_Zine> <Makarov> And look for a message contained in a dead drop* within the Cathedral. The drop is behind the statue of St. Sabbat, on the right handed-side of the cathedral.
<GM_Zine> (* Dead Drop - spy talk for a pre-arranged location for leaving messages)
<GM_Zine> <Makarov> Am I understood?
<Sister_Alita> "Understood, sire." acknowledge Sister Alita
<Sister_Solaria> "Understood"
<GM_Zine> <Makarov> Very well. Proceed. Vox me when you have secured and read the message
* Sister_Solaria pulls a plain cloak over her armour and vestments, to help appear to be nothing more than a weary pilgrim
<Sister_Alita> (follows looking like a walking porn scroll,is that command using /me? )
<Sister_Solaria> "Well, Sister Alita, let us proceed." Rising, she opens the shuttle door
<Sister_Solaria> (yes)
<GM_Zine> (Yes, the command is /me)
<GM_Zine> (Solaria-> You realize a problem. Of Makarov's doing)
<GM_Zine> (He forgot to give you directions to the Cathedral)
* Sister_Alita follows Sister Solaria, trying to ignore the lewd stares going her way
<GM_Zine> Thousands of pilgrims are walking the streets. And yes, some of them are looking at Alita. Mostly men.
<Sister_Solaria> "Hmm. I just realised... he never told us where to find the Cathedral." She looks about, to see if it is looming about nearby.
<GM_Zine> (Make a perception roll, Alita)
<Sister_Alita> (don't know the game mechanics, oops, d100?)
<GM_Zine> (Yes, d100)
<GM_Zine> (Solaria-> You see... about half a dozen cathedral spires from your current location)
<Sister_Alita> !dice d100+25
<Yuffie> Sister_Alita : Result of 5 d100+25 : 33
<GM_Zine> Alita realizes that most of the men staring at her are not doing so out of divine reverence, yes. :P
<Sister_Solaria> "I'm not sure if we should be asking these pigs anything. Even talking to them may spoil our ears."
<GM_Zine> (Also, you were supposed to roll d100)
<GM_Zine> (Not d100 + 25. We compare the d100 result to your 25 Per)
<Sister_Alita> (ok, then. Would awerness have affected it?)
<Sister_Solaria> (you rolled an 8, so you passed anyway)
<GM_Zine> (Probably! In which case your success would be 25 + 30 (Skills) + 10 (Inquisition Awesome)
<GM_Zine> (And yeah, it was an 8)
<Sister_Alita> "Though we have no idea where to go otherwise. Perhaps he didn't give us directions on purpose? He said the ship was comprimised..."
<GM_Zine> Also, Alita notices a few women gawking and whispering "A Repentia! How unfortunate!"
* Sister_Solaria tries to contact Makarov via the comm bead. "Sir, forgive me but we don't know the location of the cathedral amongst many."
<GM_Zine> <Makarov> ... That's the message in the dead drop? I... Oh.
<GM_Zine> <Makarov> ... Ergh... Magos Klinch, my maps please.
<GM_Zine> <Makarov> ... *mutters*
<GM_Zine> (Both of you make a Pers check please)
* Sister_Solaria tries not to sigh. Obviously it must be hard to be an Inquisitor, with so many things going on at once
<Sister_Alita> !dice 1d100
<Yuffie> Sister_Alita : Result of 5 1d100 : 42
<Sister_Solaria> !dice 1d100 under 35
<Yuffie> Sister_Solaria : Result of 5 1d100 under 35 : 61
<GM_Zine> Alita heres Makarov mutter "Bloody sisters. What do they think I am, a tour guide?!"
* Sister_Alita sighs, as Sister Solaria has just unwittingly emberrased the Inqusitor in front of his staff
<GM_Zine> <Makarov> There. Klinch, thank you. The Cathedral is the one three to the right in front of you.
<GM_Zine> *three to the right of the one in front of you
<Sister_Solaria> "Thank you. We will report once we arrive and receive the message."
<GM_Zine> <Klinch> *utters a bunch of 0s and 1s*
<GM_Zine> <Makarov> ... We don't speak Binary Klinch.
<GM_Zine> <Klinch> You're welcome sisters. Good luck.
<Sister_Alita> "Thank you most appreciatively, sire." she says before moving along with her companion.
<GM_Zine> The Cathedral soon looms before you. It seems that its name comes from the massive, massive image of the Emperor on its facade
<Sister_Solaria> "Are you okay, Sister Alita?" Solaria comments as they start to walk ahead.
<Sister_Alita> "Just some mild discomfort, Sister Solaria. I'm not used to being in crowds like I used to..."
<Sister_Solaria> "Very well. I know it must be unnerving. Well, here we are."
<GM_Zine> It is a short walk to the cathedral. There are several (male) priests in front of the cathedral, shouting the Emperor's praises
* Sister_Solaria closes her eyes and utters a quiet prayer of thanks to the Emperor before stepping up to the doors
<GM_Zine> Curiously, there are few pilgrims actually trying to enter this cathedral
<GM_Zine> The priest's eyes go wide at seeing a Repentia, and usher you in
<GM_Zine> <Priest> Welcome! Welcome our dear sister!
* Sister_Alita finds the Praises to the Emprorer comforting, and silently joins in before being greeted
<GM_Zine> <Priest> Please... feel free to bask before the Emperor's Endless Exaltations.
<GM_Zine> <Priest> And maybe spare us a few coins in donation? ^_^
<GM_Zine> You enter and find a largely empty and dreary cathedral. The total opposite of its magnificent facade outside
<GM_Zine> In the center of the cathedral is the aquila. A row of statues depicting Imperial heroes flanks both sides
* Sister_Alita bows her head slightly in humility as she passes the Priests
<GM_Zine> The priest's eyes still follow Alita eagerly. Hands still clutching the donation bowl tightly
<Sister_Alita> "I carry no coin this day, Brother." she says, a slight pang of shame in her voice
* Sister_Solaria sighs as she enters, knowing the churches are always in need of funds to rebuild that which is damaged and to help the needy... and some simply giving in to personal greed. Still, she has no way to tell which is which, so places a few Thrones into the bowl. "May the Emperor be with you, father"
<GM_Zine> The priest looks like you just stabbed him. And then turns away sadly
<GM_Zine> The priest then lights up at Solaria's donations
<GM_Zine> <Priest> Oh thank you! THANK YOU!
<GM_Zine> The priest runs back to his companions.
<GM_Zine> Other than the priests, there are only a few, drabbly dressed pilgrims in the Cathedral
<GM_Zine> Roll Perception please
<GM_Zine> Awareness
<Sister_Solaria> !dice 1d100 under 35
<Yuffie> Sister_Solaria : Result of 5 1d100 under 35 : 84
<Sister_Alita> !dice 1d100
<Yuffie> Sister_Alita : Result of 5 1d100 : 40
<Sister_Solaria> (I see my feet!)
<Sister_Alita> (should I have added or subtracted 30?)
<Sister_Solaria> (neither. Roll under. And you have the +10 "Just Cause" bonus for 40, I think.)
<GM_Zine> (Okay, results:)
<GM_Zine> (Solaria sees her feet. Alita doesn't notice anything amiss, other than the fact that most of the pilgrims seem to be asleep)
<GM_Zine> Alita also notices the statue of Saint Sabbat on the right-hand side of the cathedral
<Sister_Solaria> "So, I think we should look around and try to find that statue of Saint Sabbat... where is it?" she asks idly, glancing around
* Sister_Alita restrains helsef from cursing, and merely grumbles "How... aweful. These Pilgrims are all asleep in a shrine to the Emperor..."
<GM_Zine> (Well, Alita has seen it, but Solaria... :P)
<Sister_Alita> "I see it there, to the right hand side, Sister... Sleeping..."
<Sister_Solaria> "Asleep? So much for endless exaltation. It is tempting to sing in praise to wake them up."
<Sister_Solaria> "Huh? Oh, right! Your eyes are sharper than mine, Sister. Are... are you okay?"
<Sister_Alita> "Just some mild discomfort, Sister Solaria. Perhaps some singing would do some good..." she says before soflty begining a glorious hymn.
<Sister_Alita> (I'm not confident in my abilites to come up with relegious text on the spot.)
<Sister_Solaria> "Very well then." Solaria says, clearing her throat as she starts to step forward
<GM_Zine> (Alita-> Roll for your singing. What stat for Perfom again? Fellowship?)
<Sister_Alita> (It's not Charasma)
<Sister_Alita> !dice d100
<Yuffie> Sister_Alita : Result of 5 d100 : 14
<Sister_Solaria> !dice 1d100 under 80
<Yuffie> Sister_Solaria : Result of 5 1d100 under 80 : 89
* Sister_Solaria starts to sing, but the dust in the room causes a coughing fit instead

<GM_Zine> Solaria... sees her ffet *facepalm*
<GM_Zine> Alita... notices the sleeping pilgrims aren't even *breathing*
* Sister_Alita becomes very displeased at her sudden realization, reaching for her Eviscerator. "Sister. These people are not alive."
<GM_Zine> <???> Feth, we've been made!
<Sister_Solaria> "Wait, they're dead? That isn't right. Let us get the message and send it, then we can investigate."
<GM_Zine> The three non-sleeping figures stand up and...
<GM_Zine> ~ COMBAT BEGINS ~
<GM_Zine> (Alita! Solaria! You have a surprise round!)
* Sister_Solaria throws her cloak off as she pulls her boltgun out, pointing it at one of the rising figures. "This is your only chance to stop and sit back down."
<GM_Zine> (Sorry, minor edit: He should have said "Gak! We've been made!")
<GM_Zine> (Also, they are already drawing their weapons, whatever they are)
<GM_Zine> (Roll a D10+ Agi bonus for your init BTW)
<Sister_Solaria> In that case, skip the warning, Solaria decides to place a couple of warning shots into the torso

<GM_Zine> (It's already very dead Jim)

<Sister_Alita> !dice 2d10+12
<Yuffie> Sister_Alita : Result of 5 2d10+12 : 24
<GM_Zine> With one swing Alita bisects the last assailant. He looks at you, shocked. A third and fourth eye opens in his forehead. The two halves of his body then fall dead
<GM_Zine> And there is a scream
<GM_Zine> <Priest> ... BY THE EMPEROR! o_o
<GM_Zine> <Priest 2> *faints*
<GM_Zine> <Priest 3 & 4> *runs around screaming*
<GM_Zine> <Makarov> ... Sisters, Klinch is saying he detected weapons discharge in the Cathedral. Report.
* Sister_Alita is running around screaming, too, foaming at the mouth
<GM_Zine> <Makarov> Ow. My ears.
<GM_Zine> <Priest> Please don't kill me too ;_;
* Sister_Alita suddenly stops screaming, and calms down, though she is still panting heavily
<Sister_Solaria> "We were attacked by heretics, and... one appeared to have been a mutant. They have been put to death, though Sister Alita was injured. We have yet to purge the bodies properly."
<GM_Zine> <Makarov> ... Dammit. What about the message?
<Sister_Solaria> "We will get the message now." and with that, she heads behind the statue Alita had pointed out, looking for it
<Sister_Solaria> "Sister Alita, do you need medical attention? I saw that you were shot."
<GM_Zine> You find a piece of parchment behind the statue
<GM_Zine> The priests are still running around screaming, fainted, or begging not to be sliced in half
* Sister_Solaria picks the parchment up, glancing over it to see what it says.
* Sister_Alita glares at the Priest "I come to a Holy Cathedral of Our Glorious Emperor and am set upon to die by heretic scum. How did they get inNnnnNNnnnn...n.."
<GM_Zine> Solaria-> The message says "Salvation lie in Saint Cyr. Key is the Horn of Gladdos. Emperor Protects."
<GM_Zine> (This is the verbatim message)
<GM_Zine> <Makarov> Sisters? Have you secured the message?
<Sister_Solaria> "Inquisitor, the message is: Salvation lie in Saint Cyr. Key is the Horn of Gladdos. Emperor Protects."
<GM_Zine> <Makarov> Excellent. Return at once to the shuttle and... *BANG*
<GM_Zine> <Makarov> ... K... Klinch?
<GM_Zine> <Makarov> *BANG*
<GM_Zine> You hear a lot of shouting outside
<Sister_Solaria> "Inquisitor? What's going on?"
<GM_Zine> The shouts initially are of wonderment
* Sister_Alita glares at the Priest. "There's Heretic Mutant Blood and Guts in the Cathedral. Cleanse it- er... Inquisior? What is that noise?"
<GM_Zine> Then, it turns to horror
<GM_Zine> The vox is now static
<GM_Zine> You here much screaming and panic outside
<GM_Zine> *You hear
<Sister_Solaria> "...this is bad. You priests, do as Sister Alita says. Cleanse these grounds with flames and holy water. Sister, let us go out there and face the trouble."
<GM_Zine> <Priest> Ye... yes ma'am! Anything you say ma'am!
<GM_Zine> Outside... you see the source of the panic
* Sister_Alita nods, and turns off her weapon before following
<GM_Zine> There is an enormous fireball in the sky, where the "Hath No Greater Love" should have been orbitting
<GM_Zine> People are screaming as bits and pieces of the wrecked Strike Cruiser start falling to the ground
<GM_Zine> You watch as one piece smashes into a Cathedral and obliterates it
<Sister_Solaria> "..."
<Sister_Alita> "Ooooooooh. Our mission is not going well..." she says, before adressing the crowd. "TAKE COVER!"
<GM_Zine> The crowd is too busy running away and screaming to care.
<GM_Zine> Hundreds are already being trampled to death
<Sister_Solaria> "Emperor, may you guide the souls of the crew towards you, free from the perils of the warp, so that your followers may return to be alongside you."
<GM_Zine> (Right. And I think we can wrap the prologue up here)
<GM_Zine> ~ Inquisitor's Report: The Luther Incident ~
<Sister_Alita> (That was cool, Koumei)
<GM_Zine> While on mission, the strike cruiser "Hath No Greater Love" was destroyed by causes unknown over the skies of Luther
<GM_Zine> 25,000 Crew were onboard the "Hath No Greater Love"
<Sister_Solaria> (tl;dr: everybody dies)
<GM_Zine> Ground casualties were estimated at 250,000
<GM_Zine> Sisters Alita and Solaria are the only known survivors of the mission.
<Sister_Alita> (no what you said... dang, ground casualties...)
<GM_Zine> Weeks of interrogation seem to corroborate their story. Inquisition recommends both be released and assigned to another team.
<GM_Zine> This team shall investigate the message that resulted in the death of thousands of Imperial citizens, Inquisitor Makarov and his retinue, and brought savagery and death upon a Cardinal World
<GM_Zine> Alita and Solaria are heading to Saint Cyr.
<GM_Zine> The Emperor Protects
<GM_Zine> ~ =I= ~

Report by Interrogator Yazmine, to Inquisitor Lord Ramza, regarding the "Luther Incident"

Greetings my Lord!

I trust that you have now received my full report regarding the Luther incident. However, given that the report is well over two hundred pages long, I thought to send you this letter and provide you a quick summary.

* Twelve standard weeks ago, the Inquisition Cruiser "Hath No Greater Love" exploded over the skies of Luther. None of the crewmen onboard were known to have survived. The exact reason for the cruiser's destruction remains a mystery, but sabotage of the reactor plant or one of the main munition magazines is the likely culprit. No other vessels were detected in the area by the Lutheran PDF, and only a reactor or magazine explosion could destroy a cruiser so catastrophically.

* Approximately 250,000 men, women, and children were also killed by the falling debris. The Lutheran PDF have been deployed to deal with the destruction and disorder caused by this incident. I also regret to inform you that among the buildings destroyed was the dining establishment "Chelsey's". I believe it was one of your favorites.

* We have extensively interviewed the two Sororitas who were dispatched to the planet surface before the cruiser's destruction. Both have passed extensive physical and mental examinations, verifying the truthfulness of their account. The servitor crew of the shuttle was also dissected and examined, and they all also confirm the Sister's account.

Interrogator Justinian was injured by an Eviscerator during the course of these interrogations. Please refer to the incident in my full report. I recommend disciplinary action, and a stern reminder that Repentia are not to be treated as toys to be played with.

* The two Sororitas were dispatched to the surface to retrieve a message for Makarov. He feared that his ship had been compromised, and thus sent his two most trusted crewmen to accomplish this task. After digging through Makarov's records, I have discovered the message was apparently from a contact known only as "The Alchemist". I have dispatched several of my teams to learn more about this contact.

* The Sororitas were able to retrieve the message in the Cathedral of Endless Exaltation. Please see the full report for the verbatim message.

* Before they were able to retrieve the message however, they were attacked by three members of a local Chaos cult known as "The Children of Ishal". I have sent a team under Heldan to kill or capture more members of this cult for interrogation, but so far Heldan has failed to show any results.

This cult apparently has several very skilled assassins. Twenty-seven bodies were found inside the Cathedral, all murdered using a silenced poison needle gun. As none of the three dead cultists carried such a weapon, it can only be surmised the assasin (or assassins) is still at large.

Four priests who were "safeguarding" the Cathedral were also subsequently interrogated. Although they have been executed for profiteering, it seems they were simply incompetents who failed to notice that an assassin was massacring the people in their Cathedral.

* Immediately after retrieiving the message and relaying it Makarov, Sister Solaria reported hearing several gun shots. Makarov also mentioned the name of his Magos, Klinch. As Klinch would also have the know-how to sabotage the ship's powerplant or its munitions, he is now our primary suspect for the destruction of the cruiser. Unfortunately, it is almost certain that Klinch was killed when the cruiser exploded.

Given all this, it is my recommendation to proceed with the investigation of the Saint Cyr sector. It is the only lead we have from the message that was given to Makarov. As you well know, maintaining control over Saint Cyr is vital for our campaign against the 13th Black Crusade. Even though the Archenemy's advance has begun to peter out, losing Saint Cyr could tip the balance decisively against us at this critical time.

I also recommend that both Sisters be assigned for this mission. I was quite impressed by their faith.

Yours truly,

Interrogator Yazmine
