Staring until holes are bored into walls is a thing that is ascribed to various Buddhist mystics, including the original Buddha. The best one of them is Bodhidharma, one of the early Buddhist prophets in China. Because he is so known for his 9 year eye laser attack that he is drawn like this:

According to the Yì Jīn Jīng,

“after Bodhidharma faced the wall for nine years at Shaolin temple and made a hole with his stare, he left behind an iron chest. When the monks opened this chest they found two books: the “Marrow Cleansing Classic,” and the “Muscle Tendon Change Classic”, or “Yi Jin Jing” within. The first book was taken by Bodhidharma’s disciple Huike, and disappeared; as for the second, the monks selfishly coveted it, practicing the skills therein, falling into heterodox ways, and losing the correct purpose of cultivating the Real. The Shaolin monks have made some fame for themselves through their fighting skill; this is all due to their possession of this manuscript.”
After some time, Bodhidharma’s concentration became so intense that his image was engraved into the stone of the wall before him.

It seems to be a distinct minority position. I spent a decent amount of time googling around and couldn't find any mention of physical damage by staring. Bodhidharma does stare at a wall for 9 years, that is apparently a big thing he does. Usually there's no mention of any physical miracles, and when there are it's lame stuff like turning eyelids into tea trees. Also, I'm not sure that boring a hole by staring at something for 9 years really qualifies as "eye lasers."

I'm not finding anything at all about Siddhartha / Shakyamuni staring at walls.

Definitely eye lasers, just really weak ones.

That's like an ask xkcd question: 'how powerful would Bodhidharma's eye lasers have been?'

Probably stronger than a normal laser pointer.

Eh, I've found that all mp3 player programs are roughly the same. If you care about listening to podcasts, itunes seems to be the best podcatcher that also plays mp3s. If you only care about mp3s, Winamp's kind of cool, but, eh.

I generally go with VLC. Drag the files I want to listen to now into the temporary playlist and go. Maybe adjust the sound balance in a menu or something.

Rhythmbox tries to include all the music on my computer and I'm just like, "nope! Goodby! Time for a different program."

I use VLC also - it is robust and will play almost any file you can even imagine. I usually use it by right clicking on a folder full of music and "Add to VLC Media Player's Playlist."

I tried messing with VLC a bit. Compared to Windows Media Player I found playlists frustrating. And I didn't notice a shuffle function in the 5 minutes I was messing around.

My only complaint about VLC is that the Android Version of it likes to lock up my tablet.

Oh, also, at the moment, I mostly use Spotify. Though the local files function isn't working at all at the moment... I just happen to have made a playlist of my library so I could listen to my usual music on my laptop.

well, foobar and kodi can play directly from .zip/.rar files, which is a big comfort gain if you store albums in that form instead of decompressing them into their own folders like a civilized person would do . . but it can be better.
personally, i use winamp as well, if i actually play music on my computer, which i usually do not do anymore for some strange reason i have not figured out quite yet . . well, not from a local drive anyway, usually it's youtube nowadays. simply because winamp is simple and kodi and foobar would take more time for me to get comfortable in using them than it does to decompress an archive <.<

So, a follow up to this:

Would a Mister Freeze style coolant suit be more energy efficient than a central heat and air system?

I'm pretty sure that depends on the building size and how much you want to cool by.

i think it will be better in most any case, aside from one room apartments. and even these usually have a hallway, a bathroom and a kitchen separate from that room. with such a suit you have literally the smallest possible ammount of space needing cooling. namely your very personal space.

but on the other hand . . you constantly CREATE HEAT and the suit would have to work against that. which a bigger room coolant solution would not have. it would just have to maintain a stable temperature after having cooled it down once in the beginning. which means it can shut off and only start once every n-time-units to go back to the target temperature.

the suit would of course have the mobility advantage and allow you being cool even outside in the sweltering heat of summer. it will also be very annoying in dealing with things like fine motor control, eating, drinking, sneezing, farting and needing to get rid of bilogical waste matter in both solid and liquid form.

and then we get to other parts of biology.
namely that you need a body temperature of 36-38° celsius to survive basically. and if you keep your temperature lower than that without any clothes on, then yes, even at 23° celsius(which studies have shown is where people go from it being comfortable to uncomfortably warm), you are now at 13 to 18° celsius below what's needed to live.
This is because we are usually surrounded by our very own warmth bubble, mainly maintained by clothes, but to a lesser extent also by body hair and our own body heat production. 23° celsius is comfortable for still wearing mostly normal clothes. now imagine being naked at 23° celsius and there being a medium strength wind blowing. suddenly, it feels about 10° celsius and your body starts to lose heat and has to make up for it to not die. by producing more warmth(the shivers are involountary muscle contractions to create movement and thus heat from the muscles) and also need more fuel to keep up so your calory intake would probably rise quite significantly.

I would suggest getting a vice used for fly-tying. It's a hobby for old white men with fat hands that involves tiny things, so they're made for this sort of thing. Unfortunately, most are expensive. But this one is $13 at Cabelas' website.

There are some Japanese air-cooled clothing types out there. They have a small fan that blasts air into the shirt.

I also recently saw a peltier-based heating/cooling vest, but I don't think that is out yet.

How much power could you get by harnessing the heat the human body generates?
