Look's like earwax. Must be Superman's.
I had a signature here once but I've since lost it.

That whole class of materials is wacky. There was a video up a while back of a pool filled with similar stuff, and a couple of guys ran around on it. When they stopped running they started to sink fairly quickly.

heh, precursors to Dune tech... Can't fire bullets at it, those get stopped. But you can slip a knife right through it if you don't use too much force.

Gene therapy cures a form of blindness.
I have a lot of hope for this field of science. One day I hope this field of science enables my grandchildren to still develop 8-packs while eating nothing but pure lard.

Try getting 100k pounds from the Ministry of Defense by telling they should fill helmets with water...
Joe, who plans to own Newall's Plumbing Company, asked the presidential hopeful about his plan to increase taxes for some Americans. He felt that Obama's increase plan may redistribute wealth.
"Robin Hood stole from greedy rich people and redistributed it to the peasants, so to speak, so if he's [Obama] calling us peasants, I kind of resent that," -Joe the Plumber, a Republican.

My impression is it is slightly more sophisticated than water and corn starch or they wouldn't be getting it put in so many products by well known companies

I'm hoping that one day we can get anti-cancer traits like in Transmetropolitan.Lago PARANOIA wrote:http://blog.wired.com/wiredscience/2008 ... py-bl.html

Obviously they are just going to put the gel in the lining of their new vests and helmets and whatnot.
I know you were just snarking Crissa, but still.

I remember hearing about something saying human hair was actually very good at adsorbing oil (something about the surface texture). Which meant that with enough hair, you could theoretically clean up an oil spill much more quickly than the conventional method.
He jumps like a damned dragoon, and charges into battle fighting rather insane monsters with little more than his bare hands and rather nasty spell effects conjured up solely through knowledge and the local plantlife. He unerringly knows where his goal lies, he breathes underwater and is untroubled by space travel, seems to have no limits to his actual endurance and favors killing his enemies by driving both boots square into their skull. His agility is unmatched, and his strength legendary, able to fling about a turtle shell big enough to contain a man with enough force to barrel down a near endless path of unfortunates.

Somebody told me this supercomputer is cool shit, but I don't know enough about computers to comment much.

It depends on what you're doing. That thing is really not that much above a bigass pile of Dells in total performance, but it's way cheaper. By comparison, Folding At Home's real-world FLOPS totals about a thousand times that things claimed performance, and the biggest supercomputers claim over a hundred times it's performance. The big advantage it has is that it's one box built on standard hardware, not a massive cluster or a room. The only thing about it that is really unique is the motherboard. Everything else is duplicable for way less money. Also, their performance comparisons are probably unfair unless the other computers are also using GPU cycles for calculations.
On the other hand, it is probably the most powerful desktop in the world.

Actually, think about it this way: If CISRO wins, we lose. The only reasons those IEEE specs work is because the cost of implementing them was so cheap.
If it weren't cheap, it'd look like cel-phone technology; totally incompatible patents piled high meaning that while they can work together, they don't, because to do so would be to lose money.
It's not a case I support.
