Trapfinding 3 times in a group of eight...

Which works really well for WLD.

That book actively punishes PCs that take 10 or 20 for searching for traps.

Having 3 PCs that can roll on those will help ensure survivability via redundancy of rolls.

It punishes you for taking ten? How?

If memory serves, all of the DCs are high enough that taking 10 is insufficient to find anything and you just walk into the traps. Taking 20 works, but subjects you to random encounters, allows monsters time to set ambushes, and other time sensitive bullshit.

I've seen it used in KoDT. If you ever want to go into a dungeon with any kind of preparation; purchase a herd of goats or something to walk forward to set off traps.

The other option is to get a wand of summon monster I for the same reason.

You mean like the DC 27 trap when two of the trapfinders only have +6 bonuses, so have 0% chance to find it and the other gets a maximum of +14 bonus with the other two using aid another, so fails to find it by taking ten?

Yeah Ubernoob, exactly like that piece of fun right there.

Basically, either you auto-fail; since the DM is told to arbitrarily raise trap search DCs, or you encounter extra monsters. Maybe empty rooms, or dripping water, if you got lucky on the random encounters table.

If not, sometimes, rocks fall, everyone gets hurt. Which makes no real sense, since you'd have a cave-in if rocks were falling from the ceiling.
