Well, I'm in that group again. My cleric had died before even reincarnation had become available, which wasn't surprising since I purposely 'forgot' to heal damage from the last fight, so the surprise round from the tendriculos finished me off (was having trouble getting into the character for the past five levels).
After some cajoling, I convinced the DM to let me play a warlock. It was partially approved on the threat that the wizard from the prior campaign would make a return otherwise. Even the DM understood that the power of my wizard would actually be buffed in 3.P (which they're using).
The campaign explicitly states we'll be fighting giants and more giants, so I'm skipping out on the Fort-save effects and the grapple based effects (especially with the increased difficulty from 3.P). I'm actually doing less damage than the ranger when I just use the Eldritch Blast for 7d6 (game currently level 10) because the ranger's primary favored enemy is giant (3.P rangers get their favored enemy bonus to damage), is a TWF, and got some overall buffs by choosing to lose spellcasting ability (not sure what kind, probably something one of the books suggested).
Now, my 'lock only has a 30 AC against giants right now (gnome, for the +4 dodge bonus), and I would've died several times had it not been for my constant use of mirror image wands.
Already, my DM is planning on banning future use of the warlock, apparently from my actions. This is after he house-ruled that I couldn't take the Supernatural Transformation feat on my eldritch blast (allowing me to ignore SR), and understands that the blast itself is 'weaksauce'; though he'll probably go back to the 'auto-damage' song the moment I try to bring it up myself.
His current major annoyance is Relentless & Voracious Dispel (I have Relentless). He considers the at-will nature of a targetted dispel just plain OP, because not only does it trivialize magic traps, but it doesn't cost resources to remove buffs from opponents in combat; since other casters have to take power out of their day to have the option.
Hell, all of my contribution thus far has practically been from wands. Yes, I solo'd the dragon despite one round of bad tactics (take the AoO and move back to cast, because two bites < full attack), because I used a wand of Enervation on it for four rounds; it wasn't until round four another party member actually did something to either me or the dragon, which was using phantasmal killer on it (with its -12 to saves from negative levels).
This is the same DM that's glad for the Improved Trip nerf and all these other fighter nerfs thus far, stating that it annoyed him how all these tactics were soo much better than ever just attacking. The caster in the party right now is just our Mystic Theurge, and he seems to be contributing proper amounts for their palette (doesn't do much besides running around healing and buffing).
Man, since even warlocks start becoming too much for them when *I* play them, may the gods save their immortal souls if I ever get vindictive and play a druid.

How do you confuse a barbarian?
Put a greatsword a maul and a greataxe in a room and ask them to take their pick

He also doesn't allow natural spell if I remember right.
Also, you don't have the midas touch. You just can't find a decent group to play with. if they had problems with the power of magic before, I doubt that's giong to stop now.
Granted a warlock doesnt' have much power but it's seen from teh same light.
you play with silly gamers, you'll get silly results.

But that's the thing. From the sheer volume of the WotC & Paizo boards, along with at least one other group I've seen outside of my own, it really seems like the average gamer does think like my DM.

I can believe it.
Actually, isn't it ironic that most gamers who think about balance, usually worry about things being overpowered? Shouldn't they be more worried about and trying to correct things which are underpowered?
He jumps like a damned dragoon, and charges into battle fighting rather insane monsters with little more than his bare hands and rather nasty spell effects conjured up solely through knowledge and the local plantlife. He unerringly knows where his goal lies, he breathes underwater and is untroubled by space travel, seems to have no limits to his actual endurance and favors killing his enemies by driving both boots square into their skull. His agility is unmatched, and his strength legendary, able to fling about a turtle shell big enough to contain a man with enough force to barrel down a near endless path of unfortunates.

To think that, you'd have to not know what average intelligence is. But yes, I'm talking "average of everyone" instead of "average of gamers" if that was what you were talking about.Roy wrote:I've found that barring outliers (people who are merely deceived into thinking Pathfinder is a good system) Paizo fans tend towards below average intelligence. So when you view in in that context, the events here make sense.
