[Base Class] Tome Ninja

Post by Maxus »

Okay, I'm trying to write a Ninja base class that would be more under Tome Rules.

Because I'm lazy, I'd much rather alter an existing class than write a whole new one. There's actually two different classes I could pick from: The Dungeonomicon Monk, and the Assassin.

The Monk gets the mobility, and the Fighting Style mechanic could be adapted to Jutsu, with an option for people who really want to play a Naruto-type character who breathes fire or stabs people with a handful of lightning. The Assassin gets super-stealth.

The abilities I'm interested in from the Monk:

-Armored in Life, Willow Step, Abundant Leap, Leap of the Clouds, Fighting Style swift-action mechanic.

The abilities from the Assassin:

-Poison Use, Hide in Plain Sight, Uncanny Dodge, Cloak of Discretion, Trapfinding/making, Palm Weapon, Mindblank, Skill Mastery.

Some of the stuff I'd like to see:
-Water/wall/ceiling walking at all times.
-Ninja super-speed afterimage.
-Maybe an ability which counts their class level rather than BAB for Combat Feats.
-Jutsu

Here's a progression made by artistically mashing together the two classes:

d6 HD
Full BAB, Good Reflex and Will

1 Armored in Life, Willow Step, Poison Use, Jutsu
2 Abundant Leap, Uncanny Dodge
3 Jutsu, Hide in Plain Sight
4 Ninja Walk, Cloak of Discretion
5 Jutsu, Trapfinding, Trapmaking
6 Palm Weapon,
7 Advanced Jutsu
8 Ninja Speed
9 Advanced Jutsu, Improved Uncanny Dodge
10 Leap of the Heavens, Skill Mastery
11 Advanced Jutsu, Poisonmaster
12
13 Advanced Jutsu
14
15 Master Jutsu
16
17 Master Jutsu
18 Mind Blank
19 Master Jutsu
20

I don't know what to put in the blank levels. I'll figure out something, though.

Ninja Walk is water/wall/ceiling walking.

Ninja Speed...I'll work something out. Either a speed boost, or they can do that cheesy move-so-quickly-they-appear-to-teleport.

Jutsu would tend to provide spell-like abilities. Almost like "Create your own Sphere".

He jumps like a damned dragoon, and charges into battle fighting rather insane monsters with little more than his bare hands and rather nasty spell effects conjured up solely through knowledge and the local plantlife. He unerringly knows where his goal lies, he breathes underwater and is untroubled by space travel, seems to have no limits to his actual endurance and favors killing his enemies by driving both boots square into their skull. His agility is unmatched, and his strength legendary, able to fling about a turtle shell big enough to contain a man with enough force to barrel down a near endless path of unfortunates.

Zak S, Zak Smith, Dndwithpornstars, Zak Sabbath. He is a terrible person and a hack at writing and art. His cultural contributions are less than Justin Bieber's, and he's a shitmuffin. Go go gadget Googlebomb!

Ninja Warrior's known in some circles as "full BAB". "Create your own sphere", if you mean having it go into at-will, is a non-starter.

I've thought about Full BAB. And I finally found my notes on this.

Jutsu can:

--Provide a Fighting-style-like bonus. Some overlap with the Monk here.

--Provide a level-appropriate spell-like ability.

--Provide a Supernatural Action which does something ninja-y. Or failing that, does something in the neighborhood of energy/elemental damage for those who want to play Naruto.

Fixed. Also, read K's comments on the first page of the new monk stances thread if you wanna be similar to it and haven't yet.

The Gaming Den; where Mathematics are rigorously applied to Mythology.

While everyone's Philosophy is not in accord, that doesn't mean we're not on board.

I found it earlier. Thanks for the handy link, though.

I'm thinking of the basic "Swift Action each round" activation, and some of those guidelines, but I'm also thinking each Jutsu being a single action/benefit.

Really need to get my brain into gear and write something more concrete for them...

On the whole, blech.

First of all, this is a full BAB class, so the whole "your BAB is equal to class level" is stupid.

The image thing is a "Mirror Image" spell. Seriously. It is a Fighting Style (not master or grand master or anything).

Duly noted. Full BAB it is.
