*head asplode* (Aside: Why isn't there an emoticon for that?)

So I'm looking for headphone reviews and such for a friend and stumble across stereophile.com. Ah, this should be useful. I begin reading a review of some beatsbydr.dre 'phones and get to the second page when I read mention that only lossless formats are suitable for listening - my stomach begins to tighten. Finishing the review, I realize that four pages have gone by and not once has the reviewer said anything objective about the sound quality of the product.

Then a memory tickles my brain. Didn't I read an audiophile article a long time back that said something to the effect that objective, double-blind testing was flawed in evaluating sound equipment - on the basis that after the test, the participants were told which sources were which and were then able to discern differences? Oh, gawd. A quick site search turns up all these articles and forum topics with the word 'blind': My brain liquifies.

So creatard thinking dominates everywhere. Hurray.

Current pet peeves:
Misuse of "per se". It means "[in] itself", not "precisely". Learn English.
Malformed singular possessives. It's almost always supposed to be 's.

Ow. I do think there is actually a detectable difference between MP3s and loss-less formats, but it's honestly not very noticable and probably doesn't even exist for older people.

Why older people?

I think what I've seen on the subject isn't anyone disputing the difference, but that it's been observed that younger people prefer the sound provided by formats such as mp3. Essentially, they hear that sound quality so much that they use it for their preferential baseline.

The hearing range of a person degrades with age and loud noise, and the mp3 format slices stuff off stuff beyond the ends of the standard hearing range.

"But transportation issues are social-justice issues. The toll of bad transit policies and worse infrastructure—trains and buses that don’t run well and badly serve low-income neighborhoods, vehicular traffic that pollutes the environment and endangers the lives of cyclists and pedestrians—is borne disproportionately by black and brown communities."

Did anyone else just innately get that article in a stoned hipster voice in their head? It started at "are performed not by disinterested experimenters on a quest for the truth but by partisan hacks on a mission to discredit audiophiles." and continued from there.

He jumps like a damned dragoon, and charges into battle fighting rather insane monsters with little more than his bare hands and rather nasty spell effects conjured up solely through knowledge and the local plantlife. He unerringly knows where his goal lies, he breathes underwater and is untroubled by space travel, seems to have no limits to his actual endurance and favors killing his enemies by driving both boots square into their skull. His agility is unmatched, and his strength legendary, able to fling about a turtle shell big enough to contain a man with enough force to barrel down a near endless path of unfortunates.

Peculiar properties of spacetime ensure that the perception of the magnitude of Soon is fluid and dependent, not on an individual's time-reference, but on spatial and cultural location. A marketer generally perceives Soon as a finite, known, yet unspeakable time-interval; to a fan, the interval appears greater, and may in fact approach the infinite, becoming Never. Once the interval has passed, however, a certain time-lensing effect seems to occur, and the time-interval becomes vanishingly small. We therefore see the strange result that the same fragment of spacetime may be observed, in quick succession, as Soon, Never, and All Too Quickly.

It's like a forum for people trying to give virtual BJs to anyone that's touched an RPG. They even have a whole subforum where they've collected Gygax's responses.

I stumbled across Sex in Christ today {NSFW, Sex, Sexuality, Bible Passages, No Pictures}, and couldn't stop laughing.

The site includes such informational articles as Anal Sex in Accordance with God's Will, Bondage in Christ - BDSM in a Christian Marriage, A Proposal for a Christian Pornography, and Fisting and God's Will.

Also, the last time I had a cat declawed it died from complications afterward, if you don't believe in tipping you can make your own goddamn food, 0.99999999... is close enough to 1 for government work, my mom requested I not get cut when I was born but they did anyway and threatened to sue her if she didn't sign the release afterward (it didn't work), the idea of vegan farts is just grody, and don't let your dog shit on other people's property.
In this moment, I am Ur-phoric. Not because of any phony god’s blessing. But because, I am enlightened by my int score.

Definitely funny, especially the vegan part. I think I can vouch that my fellow barbershopper - a Vegan (for health puspoes only) Jewish Medical Doctor - doesn't stink whatsoever. (And his wive makes the best lentil soup I have ever tasted.) Did I mention he sings bass?

I'm putting that on my Amazon wish list. You know, just in case I win one of those things where you get everything on your wish list.
