Cyanide is the team behind the digital versions of Blood Bowl. Which are pretty faithful adaptations of gameplay, except for the shit they get wrong and have to fix. Their signature, however, is shit UI that has obvious problems apparent to anyone with a fucking brain.

BB2, for example, launched with an end turn button on the field of play, so misclick fuckups happened all the time. Dice results were also absurdly hidden in a text box too small to show all the dice rolls from a single action. Both have been fixed since, but they were pretty ridiculous to launch with.

Also expect lots and lots of overpriced DLC. Paradox AND Cyanide? For fucks sake.

Weird that werewolf is their launch title, by the by. And that they aren't publishing it themselves.

I literally own everything in that bundle.

I really like the Endless backstory even if the games tend to have a limited shelf-life.

Okay, D2 might be my favourite Disgaea, so I'm biased here, but it's super duper. You might want to find a way to play it windowed if you have a large screen, if only because the sprites don't react well to being enlarged to huge degrees (although it does have some options for filtering, like bicubic). All other aspects (text, character-speaking art, portraits etc) look a lot crisper and nicer, indeed the text is so easy to read compared to the PS games, it's amazing.

You can control it with keyboard or gamepad, and it has some degree of mouse support as well, though you're probably going to prefer using the gamepad at the end of the day.

It also contains everything from the PSP version, such as the Failed Actor Mode and all of the DLC (now included as part of the base game). I assume it includes the fixes introduced in the PSP version, preventing the Nekomata 9999 trick - but honestly, whilst that was a handy way to breeze through the main game as a super easy mode, it still didn't exactly save you in the post-game where the only things that cut it are Named Characters with sufficient grinding and reincarnations + super levelled equipment. So it's not that big a deal.

As long as you have at least 5000 hours free, I recommend it.

Well, in Disgaea 1, the mouse control can get pretty funky when you're trying to target someone (or a particular square) behind other characters or in some of the 'valleys' the maps throw up behind really high ground. Spinning the camera doesn't help as much as you might hope.

Other than that... I'd probably pick it up someday, 'cause I like the characters Etna, but not anytime soon. I picked up D1 on the holiday steam sale and ground the fuck a measely 20 hours out of it and realized i just don't have the fucking time required.

So, anybody following the Stellaris Developement?
It looks like both the patch and the DLC are going to be YUGE this time.

Also:
Civ VI is, among many other things, 20% off on steam . . and i am still not one bit tempted to buy it . . sad . .

Kind of...? Just because of the Starfish videos, as it seems they might put actual gameplay mechanics into the menus after nearly a year.

But I'm also reminded that the Blorg videos basically sold the game because it was amusing to watch cknorr and wiz screw around with light roleplaying, not because the game was any good.

As for Civ VI... I did have some fun with it, but not unexpectedly, I got tired of it before the DLC and have little urge to $5 for a couple more random 'natural wonders' and another $5 for another civ.

Yeh, the Blorg vids sold it for me. I think I actually spent less time playing than I did watching the vids.

i konfess to not knowing what the starfish or blorg videos are.
i got introduced to the game via steam and some of my favourite streamers showing it off in still beta.
Reminded me comfortable of sins of a solar empire and looked good.
So i bought it when it was reduced on steam.
And it is already my second most played game(200+ hours) after Civ V(500+ hours)

And Civ VI just . . it does not look fun, it does not look engaging, it does look broken as hell though . .

The Blorg and starfish streams/videos are just from paradox's own stream and YouTube channels. Wiz is the AI programmer for the game (so you have a face to blame for how shit the AI is), cknorr is a Swedish streamer/ youtuber (mostly blood bowl) that they hired.. Last year? As their 'video guy'. I forget what his official title is, but he oversees most of their video content. Which is pretty necessary as they focus on the multiplayer aspects of their games, and frequent interruptions happen as all their games tend to crash or desync in multiplayer.

As for the Blorg, basically they are repulsive blob creatures that want to befriend the universe. I believe they were added as a prebuilt race in the actual game, but it's been so long since I booted the silly thing up. I gave up when I realized every game was going to be directionless and effectively the same.

Thank you!
Also, have you tried some mods?
There are some oh so very good mods out for the game.
Alphamod Series for example. Looking at the upcoming DLC one might get the idea the devs played a lot with that and took some of it for themselves.
Total Conversion for WH40K, Star Wars, Star Trek are available as well of course.

I haven't. I generally don't bother with mods. Dabbling with them in other games has generally produced unfavorable experiences- mostly the modders inserting crap that doesn't fit the game.

40K, SW and ST all seem like terrible fits for the Stellaris mechanics.

The video thing is actually interesting though. Since you made the YUGE joke, I had assumed you'd seen them. That particular quirk of Swedish bleeds through all the time in the Blorg and Starfish vids.

No, that was a Trump meme. Or intended as one at least.

Also, if you do not like such total conversions, there are mods that add just stuff missing from the game.
Alphamod for example adds exo-operations with connected domes to colonize moons and asteroids. Also orbital habitats. more ressources and buildings.
Another mod makes a very detailed Sol-System(ours)
Another one adds more events to try and make you have more to do and less boredom. There are some pretty stupid ones, of course.
But also some bloody usefull ones that fix many of the problems with the UI or add more / different music to the game for example.

Yeah, no. More small numbers to micromanage is the last thing I wanted added. Same with event pop-ups.

The UI is one of the few areas I don't have a problem with, and I've usually got videos or shows playing in the background during computer gaming time.

For Honor comes out Tomorrow/Midnight/Whatever depending on your vehicle of purchase. I played the beta, and didn't honestly expect to like it. It doesn't play like the hack-and-slash game it looks like, but instead feels like a fighting game with combos, counters, guard breaks, important positioning, etc. I've never much cared for fighting games, but the demo was some of the most satisfying competitive multiplayer I've experienced. I bought it as soon as the beta ended.

It's worth looking into if it sounds appealing to you.

I got hugely into Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, which is a first person melee murder simulator. If you're at all familiar with that, how does For Honor stack up?

I played chivalry, and enjoyed it (though I wasn't very good at it). Chivalry is definitely much more similar to the Half-Life era first person shooters that it evolved from. For Honor on the other hand is more similar to the lock-on combat of Dark Souls, or perhaps even fighting games like Virtua Fighter where you aren't strictly locked onto a 2d plane. While Chivalry does have light/strong attacks that come from different derections and blocking, For Honor places a larger emphasis on directional attacks. While locked on, the right analog stick (or mouse) controls the direction of your attack (Up/left/right) and a defending player can block by simply matching the direction they hold the stick. All attacks (except, maybe, some special attacks) can also be parried by pressing the strong attack button at the correct time while also holding the correct direction to block, succeeding generally allows you to punish the attacker with a free hit unless your opponent is pretty skilled. There are also feints, unique combos for each class, and grabs/guard breaks (which allows you to throw the grabbed person in a direction, perhaps off a cliff or into a fire). During the beta I actually played only a single class (Warden), and had fun the whole time with just that one class.

Do note, at first the combat is pretty punishing, especially if you aren't used to Souls or Fighting game style combat, but the bots in this game are actually surprisingly competitive. If you choose a class and practice against Level 1 bots until you can beat them nearly every time, you'll probably be better than half the people you go against in matchmaking, at least until it starts to place you in matches with higher ranked people. The single player campaign presumably has you playing against similar bots, so you might be able to skill-up just by playing it, but I can't say for sure since it was not included int he beta.

Overall, I don't think the feel very similar, though they are very similar thematically (especially the Knight classes). The emblem editor is very versatile, and the appearance customization is also pretty damn decent, which is one thing I also like about Chivalry. There's a lot of gameplay footage from the open beta you could look at to try to gauge if you think you would like it.

I figure For Honor would be more comparable to a boxing game than Dark Souls

ZackS is working for White Wolf now. Unfortunate.

The two prelude games are tolerable. The mage one is kinda shit. You play as an immigration center volunteer in Sweden who is awakening to magic. You can side with the technocrats which leads to Sweden redistributing refugees to other EU countries or join the Traditions or Nephandi which leads to Sweden accepting more refugees.

The vampire one has a ZackS self-insert but is still better than Mage. You play as a young thinblood vampire who is being hunted by the Tremere for stupid reasons. It has good moments.

The games are also very heavy handed with political messages. Vampire has a transvestite vampire murdering Trump voters and Mage has a random guy ranting at you about women and gays ruining sci-fi because a book shop you are working at doesn't have Asimov's books. There isn't really any point to the latter scene.
