Just educate kids with pictures of common venereal diseases and say "This is sex in Baltimore. With or without a condom. Be careful and very, very picky."

I heard that scare tactics can be a very effective form of birth control, unless it's "if you have sex for pleasure, then you burn in hell!"

It doesn't have to be scare tactics.

They've done long-term studies that show that teens with the most sexual knowledge tended to delay having sex until later in life.

Lots of teens have sex as a form of experimentation. If you give them all the knowledge, then they don't feel the need to experiment.

When you realize how big a deal sex is, you tend to treat it as such.

So what's a good reason?

A good reason to not inoculate people against HPV? I've never heard one.

It's not about someone opting not to have the vaccine - it's about someone opting for their child or someone else's child to not have the vaccine. That is what is happening.

Abstinence is the best course. But abstinence-only programs have nothing to do with educating on what the options are. These programs don't even equip their graduates with enough knowledge to know what to do once they get to marriage. They are often filled with scare tactics and lies, and are never, ever evaluated by how well their graduates do in life.

Oddly enough I agree. But the old saying is that the perfect is the enemy of the good. There is no method that will keep all adolesents from having sex. What about some from having sex? What about others from having sex less frequently?

This is why I prefer an abstinance first as opposed to an abstinance only.

The common reason not to inoculate is the false protection argument. A person who is inoculated may think they are "protected" and thus could fall into unsafe sex habits. Yes they are protected from HPV, but there are more things out there than HPV. I still don't think it is a good reason. People who won't believe that there are other things out there that they need protection from won't worry about protection in the first place.

I wasn't talking about all adolescents, I was talking about the general adolescent sex rate, which is immune to any of the programs which have been leveled at it. It's not that they're not 100% successful, it's that they have no effect at all. The younglings are not fools; they know that people are having sex and that sex is enjoyable. As a result, they usually smell the bullshit when being fed a line.

Once again, the only impact anti-sex or sex-education programs have is on the rate of safe sex. I have a few friends who were 'educated' in an abstinence environment, and since their teachers outright lied to them about the failure rates of condoms, they always figured it wasn't worth the hassle when the time came. On the other hand, I was lucky enough to be taught about the names, effects, and vectors of a wide variety of VDs, as well as how the various forms of protection work against them, and I always had a condom in my wallet because genital warts is nasty.

Actually I would say that they are not more or less foolish than the rest of us. To that extent we are all fools, led hook line and sinker by a constant barrage of lies from the media.

They, like us, also drink a tremendous amount of both caffene and corn syrup products because of a similiar constant barrage of lies and we equally pay the price for this in a number of ways.

Use Firfox. It has a spelling checking plugin, though the suggested words are a little too close to the "add to dictionary" option. You may sometime have to right click a text box and select "spell check this field".

It's not my fault Word is useless when talking to someone else in the world who doesn't have Word.

Open Office would be fine, because it can output into UTF-8 and doesn't attempt to replace ordinary characters with font-specific ones.

Personally, I use a Mac. (Any unix flavour would work) As it has a universal dictionary and spellchecker that can be added to any typing field... Although I'd never used one until recently, and now I use it to look up words I'm typing all the time ^-^

Either its just 'cause you've only taken just enough booze to disrupt key inhibitors, but not enough to mess up your sex drive. Or maybe it's the long term effect of regular alcohol use.

I can't remember exactly. I read an article in a scientific magazine about risky behavior and sexual attractiveness at a doctors office while waiting for a shot. It wasn't too specific on the subject, being written by Markus.H.Somethingorother...

(Well there goes my credibility...)

Anyway, I don't drink that much to care.

It's no-one else's fault that you don't use a real computer and thus can't read special text.

There. That was strangely unsatisfying.

People with real computers don't run Microsoft office anyway. They run openoffice. Although I've heard that macs are good for graphical design. I don't know in what capacity they are good, I just have heard from several people that they are good for that.

Oh, the point there wasn't exactly to make fun of macs, but just a jab at Crissa, meant in jest because she takes things too seriously sometimes.

I occasionally use MS Word and Excel. If I needed to reformat my notebook I wouldn't go out of my way to reinstall them, though. I'd probably just get openoffice. Or use notepad for everything.

Maybe I just haven't used OO in a long time, but doesn't it take a long time to start up and consume a lot of resources on a Windows machine?

I tested it, and it took a bit over 10s to start the first time (no preloader) and only a couple of seconds the second time. As for resources, I am sure it would run fine on even the puniest (Windows) machines you can buy now - not so sure about some old machine with tiny quantities of RAM, tho.
