I'm actually really suspicious of our current leader, Kevin Rudd. See, as soon as he was put in power, he started doing his job. He signed the Kyoto Protocol, he's already been doing things... this makes me wonder what he's up to.

If he didn't do anything, or screwed us all over, it'd make sense. We'd know "Ah yes, another bloody politician." But this is a really confusing move, so we need to keep an eye on him.

Funnily enough, hating your government is patriotic for Americans. Seriously, this country got started by hating the then-current government.

And as my 11th-grade honors History teacher explained, the Founding Fathers wouldn't object at all to people wanting to overthrow a government at any time, and part of the intention of the Second Amendment was so citizens would be able to do that (and to save the cost of guns when it came time to raise an army).

Except these days, the U.S. Government takes a dim view of people trying to overthrow it. Which is natural and all, it's what every other government does.

Some day I'll sit down and write an essay detailing my hypothesis that no 'pure' form of any system of government can be the best, and that the only perfect government would be one that borrowed a lot from the rest of them.

Technically incorrect. The people did not overthrow the government. It was the governments (the various colonial governments) that banded together that overthrew the ties to the government across the ocean.

And the second amendment argument is also technically incorrect. The whole second amendment comes from a love of Greek civilization. A number of the founding fathers hated the whole idea of a national standing army, believing that if it sat around long enough eventually it would do something, like take over. The idea of the people, the average people, being as it were full time people, who could take up arms and form armies at a moment's notice to defend the nation was quite appealing. The second amendment is not about an army, it was not about a "national guard" as we understand it today. It was about a nation of "minute men."

It's actually deeply unfortunate. There is this huge movement for honesty in australian politics recently, but we deeply need him to renege on his tax cut policy and instead put all the money in the future fund or invest infrastructure and education to releave inflationary pressures.

Incidentally, as someone who wants to buy a house, can they hurry up with the interest rate rises? I need some housing re possessions:(

Edit: Also he hasn't actually done anything. I mean he's signed the kyoto protocol and hugged some native australians, but he hasn't implemented any policies or passed any legislation (or so it seems?) from listening to news radio. The debate this morning was funny.

I stand corrected, though the 'patriotic' bit was just an awful joke about part of the freedom of speech meaning in America, you're allowed to talk trash about the government, and by exercising and defending that freedom a person can, by convoluted reasoning, be performing an patriotic act.

As the rest, I seriously stand corrected on that fine distinction. Truth be told, it's only of intellectual interest to me, because I'm a geology major and rocks aren't really big on forming complex societies.

You mean, you want houses to come on the market via foreclosures?

'Cause higher interest rates means houses are more expensive, assuming you have to get a loan to cover the total.

Sure, but given the overheated stated of the housing market in my city the space house prices have to fall is larger than the amount my loan would go up.
