Check out this link. It gives me hope that DnD will one day become an accepted hobby.

Wow, talk about one search engine referring another refering another...

I wonder if they know they even have that entry.

but don't want to have an accepted hobby.

If I didn't have D&D to make myself reviled amongst the religious right, how would I piss them off?

Bah. I should go on a crime spree and say D&D made me do it. That would help.

You should really be thanking Wikipedia users. Answers.com is just a usually outdated mirror of Wikipedia with ads and no original content.

D&D as played through video games seems to have gained a considerable acceptance by society.

OTOH, P&P D&D as played by 5 friends at a basement table is still considered to be eyebrow-raising. Even though we've been doing it for 20+ years longer than the video game contingent.

Perhaps because small gatherings of weirdos usually smacks of cult-like activity on the horizon. Who the hell knows...

Or maybe because it is an inherently nerdy and socially awkward activity. Who knows?

Ha! I love the reference to Progress Quest. I loved that hilarious little poke at the MMORPG community.
