Check this race out...

Post by Maxus »

I was just dumpster-diving through Planewalker.com, and came upon this...

Half-Kyton

Medium-size: As medium-sized creatures, half-kytons get no special bonuses or penalties due to their size.
Half-kyton base speed is 30 ft.
Half-kytons are proficient with chains, whips, and chained weapons (such as nunchucks).
+2 racial bonus to Craft skills involving metalworking: Half-kytons retain some of the innate metalworking skills possessed by their fathers.
+2 racial bonus on Climb checks when climbing a chain: Half-kytons have innate skill in handling chains, although not as much as a full-blooded kyton would.
+2 racial bonus to attack rolls when using chain-based weapons.
-2 racial penalty to attack rolls when using non chain-based weapons (except whips).
Automatic languages: Infernal and Common.
Bonus languages: any.
Favored Class: Any.

The flavor goes on about them inheriting the chain fetish thing and often being the product of a kyton getting some urges out of its system, whether the woman was willing or not. So they have a hatred of kytons and, by extension, devils.

But that's just secondary.

Here's what I'm seeing.

-FREE SPIKED CHAIN PROFICIENCY.
-+2 TO ATTACK ROLLS USING CHAINS.
-NO LA.

Oh, and aren't flails chain-based weapons, too?

If so they're not really being restricted in their available damage types...

Can anyone find any mechanical reasons not to use this?

At least it was fan-made, and not WotC. Or does that make it worse?
Yeah, it is pretty much there to make Spiked Chain melee machines more powerful. However, even with an optimized build, they still pale in comparison to the might of Clerics, Druids, and Wizards.

Some being, somewhere, sometime, had sex with a kyton. Think about that.

Hey, if there was a lady kyton, and she was into me, I would find it hard to not have sex with her.

Seriously, I'm not in a condition to turn down females right now.

I've seen some attractive female Kytons in my time.

Rather, pictures of them. I have not yet seen any real Outsiders of any variety.

For me, "Attractive" doesn't even enter the equation. I'll settle for "willing" and "doesn't smell bad".

And another thread about to be derailed by Da Count's loneliness...

As for the race, orcs get a +2 to hit with all weapons, and a +2 damage to boot.

Share the loot, Koumei.

And check out "lvl9drow" in Deviantart. He left me fairly impressed.

Hmm. Actually this race really, really sucks. Its also a bit stupid.

But, yeah. +2 to hit with a weapon thats just a bit better than other weapons. Yay. Its either a particular type of melee combatant or it has no bonuses whatsoever- to the point that its actually worse than a half orc or half elf. Really. +2 to climb chains and +2 to craft checks mean nothing at all. They even have penalties when making ranged or touch attacks.

Someone really wanted a gimmick, and made the race absolute suck to get it approved by the DM.
Who, if it gets irritated by it, has some simple options:

The halfings with the stat modifiers and the bonus feat seem.. better.

I suppose they are better than humans when it comes to making a spiked chain fighter, and that could be crazy good at level one, but overall, its not pantswettingly good.

This is a race which is even worse when compared to the Orc than the Half-Ogre is. That's quite an accomplishment.

Fighter min/maxxers who tell me "What would I need a bow for?" always perplex me. It's like they don't know that manticores and ropers exist.

Of all the things, they chose +2 to some skills no-one cares about and proficiency and a +2 bonus to hit with certain weapons, just for Spiked Chain builds.

Things that spring to mind immediately for Kytons:
*They can change their face instinctively to scare people
*Dancing chains
*Chains grow when wielded by them
*Natural armour just from wrapping themselves in chains
*Regener-fucking-ation

Possibilities:
Small Natural Armour bonus just by wrapping chains around themselves (or "Chain mail can be worn and counts as not wearing any armour at all" or something)

Or perhaps the "lengthen chain" ability.

Or how about a lesser form of Dancing Chains?

I mean, Kytons are cool. They just made the half-breed boring.

Here's an idea: take all that, put it in a feat for devilish half-fiends and tieflings.

Sounds pretty sweet, actually.

I showed it to my off-and-on DM, and he was under the impression that half-kyton was an LA +0 template.

My further dumpster diving in that site has revealed unto me:

1) They have templates/races for every flavor of Planetouched, including Lightning, Dust, Magma, and Ooze Genasi. And three different templates for Tieflings (Tanar'ri, Baatezu, and Yugoloth).

2) They have a large list of magic items and artifacts. Magic items including magic chocolate that you eat. Like eating a chocolate mint and you get such minty fresh breath you get 1d4+1 to Charisma for an hour. I'm more interested in these than the races.

3) Large list of spells.

I'm inclined to sort through the stuff and save anything that might be useful for later....

(Edit: Oh, the things no half-kyton should be without! :thumb:

The Kyton Bracers...

Kyton Bracers are chains that stay wrapped around your forearms when not being uses (granting a +5 circumstance to Climb because of the hooks and the like). But can be used to give two attacks at your full BAB with your now 15-foot reach, do 1d8+3 (considered a +2 weapon for DR), and can be used to do civilian stuff (like pick things up at a distance) at any time.

All this can help you satisfy your chain fetish for a mere 12k GP!)

Moer liek a -2 LA raes, amiright?

Also, if a Kyton wanted to make you do them...you're not really going to have a choice (even if you are a guy; it's possible and it's both disturbing and horrifying to think about), mostly b/c they're a fvcking kyton and we're all mundane humans.

Then again, any sexual situation that doesn't have consent from all parties involved tends to make me instantly sad in pants. The fact that there is stuff like that makes me worry about how humans aren't good and yet like to pretend that they are. Which makes me then not want to trust people.

If you think that's cool, check out the Cape of Chains.

Here's the link to overall page.

http://planewalker.com/snail/equipment. ... ]Unstatted stuff is at the top, equipment is in the middle, magic items (like the Bracers and the Cape of Chains) under that, and artifacts at the bottom.

(Edit: It's been some time since I looked at this stuff...The Kyton Bracers are listed as Hell's Chains. Oh, and my personal favorites are the Cape of Chains, Jerkin of the Brazen Rogue, all of the Chocolate, Anarchist's Gauntlet, the magic frying pan at the bottom, and the artifact Stormclaw)

You know, in all honestly, when I think of all the potential sources of where the kyton comes from, given the average nature of a kyton encounter, sex would ... well be almost an afterthought probably not even noticed among all those barbed chains piercing, ripping and shreading nerves, sinew, flesh, and bone.

....which leads me to assume that only RoW Barbarians or PHB Trolls could sire or dam half-kyton children. At least they have a decent chance of surviving the conception.

Perhaps powerful (i.e. High BaB) warriors that wear adamantine armour into bed. For...protection.

The fact that I had to put thought into that makes me go :ohwell:

But think of this for a minute. A typical kryton has a natural regeneration ability. (I mention that to suggest the mindset of the kryton; when not shredding victims they either shread each other or themselves.) A ring of regeneration is 90K, expensive but hey we are talking about evil beings that will go the extra mile for self satisfacton.

So let's see, you take you average human. You (actually I have no verb for the action of forcefully taking your chains and shreading a person to pieces) him or her, they scream and well that's it. Gets kind of boring after a while. They didn't know what was comming, they overload on the experience and then they stop moving.

But put on a ring of regeneration on that victim and you have a meal! You rip, shread, he screams, he passes out from the pain; then he wakes up, you ask him about the experience and see the terror in his eyes when you tell him youare going to do it again, and again and again.

:jawdrop:

In fact I could even see a system where the victim eventually gets the mindset of a kryton followed by the body part sharing (regeneration will reattach limbs if available, so body part sharing is sort of possible in a sick perverted way) leading to the victim becommong a kryton in their own right.

(And you thougt it was a demonic stork. For shame!)

Sadly, the Ring of Regeneration doesn't give you regeneration, as it did back in 2e. This is sad. 90k for fast healing <<1.

[edit] << in wrong direction. oops.

Like I said before, gotta be a Troll or a high lvl RoW Barb to survive that at all, or use RoW adamantine to survive the damage dealt.

This reminds me of a webcomic where the protagonist has been essentially told that he can't die.

He keeps coming back to life. Which sucks for him. Since what usually kills him is this girl that got rebuilt into a cyborg, and has parts of her pet cat's brain in her brain. Sleeping with an obsessed cyborg cat girl with actual claws for claws is painful, bloody.

Actually, more like not sleeping, since the having your chest caved in by cyborg claws and then have your chest ripped open tends to prevent sleeping from occuring.
