I don't like looking at beta stuff for games so I'm going to avoid it. Don't like spoilers and it feels the same as supporting the whole pre-order process.

Looked into Miasma and it looks pretty good. Very XCOM which is one of my favorite things.

Yeh, Miasma is a buy for me, when it gets a good discount and is a fw patches in.

What part of PC hardware affects loading times? Specifically, it takes about two minutes to get from "click play on BG3 icon on Steam" to "loaded into my save and ready to go." and if I just want to reload a save while already in game, it's still around a minute, so I'd like to know what I can upgrade to boost this. It's on my only internal hard drive, an SSD, so it's not a problem of using an old spinning drive.

RAM could be the culprit here. Make sure you have modern DRAM and as much as your motherboard can handle. SRAM (also called cache) is mostly a function of processor, so getting more would be an invasive change. Bus speeds are going to be set by processor and protocol, so grab the most modern RAM that your processor supports.

A graphics card is also memory forward, and it can offload substantial work from your system. Have a reasonable one if you can. 2-3 years old is fine.

Cool, I'll see about doubling my RAM to 16, luckily the crash of crypto and NFTs has made RAM really cheap lately. And then I guess after that it's graphics card upgrade time.

And by the time that's done, the game might also be improved, such as by the addition of console commands.

No longer necessary, I remembered Australian consumer law means I can just get a refund, so now I have saved myself $90 and 150GB by removing every shitty D&D game based on garbage editions nobody likes.

Is this a window for me to say I think the new Baldur's gate is ok but overated and fundamentally flawed in ways that make it not my thing.

I like everything about it except the actual game, which is a problem when it's a game.

And it turns out I can't get a refund because I've played more than 2 of the 120 hours (most of that being character creation and loading screens), so now I'm just not paying Steam money and simply pirating every game I might like until I know for sure and then also get back $90 worth.

In the meanwhile, I'll play the only fun game: drinking.

It may be that Ausfailian consumer law is kinder than Steam's refund policy - the two hour limit is for a no-questions-asked refund, a bunch of people got refunds for No Man's Sky after way more than two hours.

However it may also be that the difference in effort is not worth the uhhh time even if it works.

You uh. Seen the price on the new Space Bethesda experience.

No way man. Just no way is it worth that.

It's Bethesda, post Morrowind Bethesda, post name each new game/low in succession after that Bethesda.

So sure why NOT pay an all time high to experience what we all know will be Bethesda's latest all time low with the same bugged out of date fail engine...

The best I have heard about Garfield Starfield is that it's kind of okay, standard Bethesda garbage, but the plot really drags it down.

That's the most shining and glorious review.

Best I heard were dumb asses arguing about the rating on steam. Which went.

"Hey guys 45 percent of those rating the game seem to have gotten a key without a direct purchase"

Then fanboys so dumb they couldn't come up with "not a direct purchase could mean a lot of things. As could the entire scenario as described" And instead going with.

"What so are we supposed to believe you went through EVERY review by hand and manually counted you liar. Only
an idiot would claim that. Also I went through and counted manually and only got 10 percent before I got tired at just 10 total reviews which I believe is a representative sample."

Followed by "guys it's an aggravate number steam reports directly on this linked page"

Followed by "you liar you couldn't possibly have gone through and counted manually. But I did and after seeing ten reviews I got only..."

It was entertaining in a grim way.

They still use the old old engine with all of the known cheats and exploits and bugs . .

I don't completely hate Starfield (but I have shit talked it elsewhere) but I can't stress enough how much of that is based on the fact that I already had game pass for other reasons and therefore I don't have to sit there resenting the $70 fuckmothering dollars they charge for it.

The plot drags things down, certainly, but I think a lot of how slipshod it feels is related to the Standard Bethesda Garbage becoming an unwelcome habit. The game starts you off as a menial laborer irrespective of the background choices you made but the game segues very quickly to declaring you a special nobody and then suddenly your new boss is also your housecarl with the only logic tying it together being the fact that you're playing a Bethesda game and they don't know what else to do with themselves. Honestly, they should have just started you out as the newest space adventurer guildie from word go and then had the main plot start after you do tutorial stuff, adventure on your own for a while and then eventually discover the first clues that get the ball rolling your own damn self. That would have actually made me feel more like a space explorer instead of an asshole rock porter who happens to be inexplicably deadly.

I can't recommend Robocop: Rogue City enough.

It does look, feel, and play like the genuine item. I had no idea I missed a Robocop game this badly.

Vietnam Combat Operations Tour of Duty, a mod available on moddb for free download, using C&C: Tiberian Sun's engine but set in 'nam is really good...except for some glitches.

Robocop might actually be a shooter kind of game for me.
Not too twitchy from the looks of it and i enjoy the IP.

People are still modding Doom, Tiberian Sun's got nothing on that lifespan.

EDIT: Just noticed, your avatar is when the Comedian is in 'nam as well.

No not in terms of lifespan of course, i was more surprised that people still remember and use it.
Doom is something that even people who have no idea of gaming have at least heard of.

I stopped playing Counter-Strike when the new game launched. I've invested so much time in CS: GO and I expected a lot from the new game, but it turned out awful. I went back to playing 7 Days to Die after 2-3 years I think. I forgot how fun that game can be, but learning how to play it properly again will take time. I'm getting ready for the first horde attack now, and I hope I survive it.
The one problem that the developers of this game haven't solved over the years is the server lags. You can lose days of progress when the server crashes and the lag is real. That's why I rent a private server. I get it from 7d2d.net for only $6.

I've just started playing Starcraft Remastered (I considered Starcraft II, but Starcraft Remastered is prettier and the gameplay looks better to me) and that has been a blast. I highly recommend it, even though virtually every game I play is me going against somebody with a barcode name who proceeds to kick the shit out of me. Every game is so different outside of the opening minute that I feel like I could play it endlessly, even knowing my opponent is likely some sort of god putting out 200+ APM while I struggle to maintain an 80 and ultimately get macroed into oblivion. I don't think I've ever had a higher APM than my opponent, even for my (few) wins. There is so much room to improve and the game is so fun!

Old games are great.
