I love Disturbed. Time to look up Ill Niño.
Edit: upon further searching it turns out that they produced a song I really like, but I'd never checked the artist. Cool.

Check out The Black Kids. Think New Order, only with more hips, more irony, less bleakness.

Too upbeat for my tastes.

A little eclectic - a little indie, a little weird.

Bob Dylan
Malvina Reynolds
Pete Seeger
Johnny Cash
Danger Mouse
Gorillaz
Opeth
Clutch
Little Barrie
Secret Machines
Pixies
Led Zeppelin
Simon & Garfunkle
Beatles
chuck Berry
Fair to Midlands
Arctic Monkeys
We are Scientists
Eisley
and many many many more....
I'll try to do this in spurts as time goes on.

Something I found recently. Rhapsody of Fire: French metal band with lots of stringed instruments, epic over the topness and light on the growling. Awesome stuff.

Heh, while I thought Blind Guardian was better known in the U.S.A., I'm definitely surprised to see Laibach mentioned in any country other than Slovenia and Germany. As for me, aside from stuff already mentioned:

Black (not what I listen to the most, but seems to be what you mentioned less): Burzum, Darkthrone, Isengard, Make a Change ... Kill Yourself.
Folk: Cruachan, Mägo de Oz (only one that doesn't have a lot of black in it), Rudra, Salem.
German Gothic: Das Ich, Lacrimosa.
Symphonic: Aesma Daeva, Diablo Swing Orchestra.
Industrial (i.e. if you like Laibach/Rammstein, check it out; it's more or less a fact that Laibach => Rammstein => Ruoska): Ruoska.
Self-important: Trivium.
Political (?): System of a Down/Serj Tankian.

Ministry, VNV Nation and Assemblage 23 are awesome. :D

Checked out Diablo String Orchestra. They're weird in a very good way. Thanks for the tip.

Probably not the sort of thing that you guys are into, but I've been listening to a lot of Gorje Hewek's stuff lately.

Fixed. And glad to be of use.

Various other stuff here's awesome; my shout-out goes to Assemblage 23, VNV Nation, and Ministry's No W (well outdated by now - fortunately).

Lastest developments would be Animetal (yes, it's a band name), L'Âme Immortelle (German goth) and Malice Mizer (visual kei, a.k.a. "rock/metal by Japanese of controversial sexuality" - also, can't say I could find translations of many of their lyrics).

Presently, I am listening to 2 albums, Delta-Q-Delta and The Dark Side of Phobos.

http://doom.ocremix.org/
http://doom2.ocremix.org/

Both are Overclocked Remix albums, and are thus mixed bags when it comes to the appeal of their content. Still, I can generally find at least 7 or 8 tracks I like in each.

Yeah, those were awesome.

I rather liked the Best of Techno series, as it has unremixed hits of those years, the particular songs being hard to find now. In fact, I always like to point out that of my favorite albums and songs, only a handful are actually available for me to buy legally. Let alone illegally. I hate the music industry, making it so hard to distribute your own music that it just ends up not being distributed.

She's more mainstream, but I'm really enjoying BoA's US album.

This is Swedish pop, but I can't get it out of my head. The video is worth seeing just for the creepy accordion guy and the possessed woman rocking out.

http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/68780

I heard this song on Sunday, and have since discovered the Newgrounds audio section. There's some fairly decent stuff in there, but finding it can be a bit of a time sink. Atomic is still my favorite. It has... what feels like a faintly sinister undertone that really stands out to me. Also, it's free, which is always nice.

Also listening to the Warcraft 2 soundtrack right now.

I listen to a lot of music. And a lot of different kinds of music. The only stuff I don't listen to is metal (which I once did; got tired of it), hip-hop, dance (and even then, I listen to a few things from those), but again, I have no objection to spending a night somewhere listening to it once in a while.

Music I really can't get into is different variations of east-european, asian and arabian ethno music.

And I'm still proud that, when my guitar-playing friend and I meet, we can sing songs on 6 different languages.

Metal bands typically have wailing guitar solos. Does anyone know of a symphonic metal band with violin solos that really go off?

In other news: I won't say Dethklok is awesome overall, but Into the Water is totally awesome.

Um... Hurt has violin in it. I'm not sure about solos. They aren't a really good metal band. Opeth might have some violin for a few songs.

I don't know if this is what you're looking for but here is some of the more obscure music that I enjoy.

Like many "intellectual elitists" of my generation, I listen to a lot of pretentious indie music. I'm rather fond of:

Neutral Milk Hotel
Regina Spektor
Cursive
The Good Life
Of Montreal
The Unicorns
The Mountain Goats
Death Cab for Cutie
The Decemberists

Discounting those, I also like System of a Down, Pink Floyd, Flogging Molly, Rush, Dave Matthews, Bob Dylan, and Coheed and Cambria. I have a closet addiction to DragonForce (they're really bad, but they're still quite fun to listen to). Death/hardcore metal tends to make me giggle like a little girl, partly because most of it is really silly.
Out beyond the hull, mucoid strings of non-baryonic matter streamed past like Christ's blood in the firmament.

I've always made sure to keep Smash by The Offspring within 20 feet of me since I was 10, for easy listening. Beyond that, oft-played selections from my foobar2000 sidebar include, in no particular order:

The Kleptones
The National
Beirut
The Clash
Reel Big Fish
Felix Da Housecat
Grandaddy
Helio Sequence
Jeffrey Lewis & The Junkyard
Kwoon
The Seatbelts
The Magnetic Fields
Matt & Kim
Okkervil River

I also listen to a lot of bands too small, or too new, as to only appear on the sixtyone. Side noting, my favorite concert experience was Cowboy Mouth. Fred has a Cha of over 9000, or something.
