Will there be water provinces in the map? And what are the colors of the flags?

Finally, is the Ulmish Siege commander not available?

We've honestly got a ton of good Build-Anywhere commanders, and a ton of Cap-only.

Plus you have back to back Build-anywhere troop picks between picks 9 and 10.

Korwin: Discounting first pick of the priests is just really weird. There is only one flying priest (Seraphine). There are only two level 3 priests that aren't aquatic (Lizard King and Coral Queen). There is only one thug priest who is better than a level 1 (Jotun Gode). If you have a type of priesting that favors your playstyle (maneuverable priests, powerful priests, or thug priests), you actually need to have the first or second pick to definitely get the one you want. There are a lot of priests to choose from, but unless you want "cheap priests" (of which the Milesian Monk is the best, but many that are nearly as good), the competition is really fierce.

Yes, but since every faction is a "land" faction, the ratio of land to water should be high. We can use any of the flag colors, the flag sprites are 24 bit colors, with 0,0,0 (actual black) used for transparent. But 1,1,1 is so dark that it might as well be black. It's a little trickier for the score graphs, because it's on a zero to 1 scale, which is weird. But with a little fiddling it comes out.

The Ulmish Siege Commander is available, but he has a Leadership of 10, so he doesn't count as a General. Unless your starting troops were very expensive, he'd be unable to lead your starting army, so he is not an option for the starting general. You could take him with your omni-slot. However, I don't recommend doing that - you could have a build anywhere battle mage like a Witch Hunter or a build-anywhere badass magician like a Skratti in that position.
IRC is so 2002

Since there are people on Pacific time, Eastern Time, Central European Time, and whatever the timezone at GMT +8h is called in this game, it is pretty hard for me to imagine a time of day that everyone could log onto IRC together. It's 7AM for me as I am writing this, which makes it 1 PM for Zinegata and 1 AM for DrPraetor, and 10 PM the previous evening for K. Seriously, just posting on a message board is slow, but at least it keeps moving forward.

I do not believe it does. PD units aren't actually created until battles happen, so I think the chance of PD with levels of 10 and above catching sneaking units is fixed regardless of faction.

But it is almost guaranteed that at least two factions are going to have elephants in their PD. Maybe only their PD at 22+, but even so.

Just to clarify, 20 gold worth of units per PD point up to 19, 40 gold at 20 +?

That will not go very far with elephants, mammoths, Illithid or similar expensive units. Though I suppose getting 1 elephant defender for 1 gold is a good deal, spending close to a 1000 gold for only 3 mammoths in a strategic chokepoint is not.

I suspect the starting army/basic PD choices will be a critical factor. To be honest I'm more interested in contemplating the mindset behind other peoples choices.

That's 20 gold of unit A and 20 gold of unit B. So if you get Mammoths in your basic PD, your third (and final) Mammoth will kick in at Province Defense 18. For 20+, it's 40 gold worth of each, so you'd get a Mammoth every 3 points of PD. So at 1000 gold worth of PD (well, 990), you'd have a PD of 44, which would have 8 Mammoths in it. Also 1000 gold worth of your second build-anywhere pick, and 380 gold worth of both of your 3rd and 4th pick. And it would be led by your General and your secondary Capital-Only Leader.

All in all, a very nasty surprise.

Cool. I was thinking 20/40 gold total, instead of per unit.

FYI there are a few bugs that sometimes arise when assigning very high PD values. Only likely to rear it's head if someone picks a mass of cheap units like Markata. Adjusting the numbers up or down a point typically fixes these issues.
