So, Bayonetta. I'm on Chapter V.

Notes so far:

1) MOTHEREATING GRACE AND GLORY I FUCKING HATEHATEHATE THOSE SONSABITCHES DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE SHITFUCK THEM TO HELL WHERE THEY CAN GET ASS-RAPED FOREVER

2) Fighting a colossal two-headed dragon-angel? That was a -blast-.

3) I like how the game doesn't take itself seriously. Bayonetta tackles a guy to prevent something from falling on him, and he had to presence of mind to feel up her ass before they even hit the ground.

4) I just noticed that Bayonetta's shadow has butterfly wings when she doesn't. Her primary demon thing is named Madama Butterfly. Very nice flavor bit. I'll have to remember that one...
He jumps like a damned dragoon, and charges into battle fighting rather insane monsters with little more than his bare hands and rather nasty spell effects conjured up solely through knowledge and the local plantlife. He unerringly knows where his goal lies, he breathes underwater and is untroubled by space travel, seems to have no limits to his actual endurance and favors killing his enemies by driving both boots square into their skull. His agility is unmatched, and his strength legendary, able to fling about a turtle shell big enough to contain a man with enough force to barrel down a near endless path of unfortunates.

I won Need for speed: world at PAX-east. The game is buggy as hell and crashes routinely. But the game itself is a lot of fun. Unfortunately, unlike a lot of free-to-plays, the virtual currency is only available by buying it using real money.

After playing Dragon quest 9, I feel confident with giving a short mini-review.

This game is an old-school JRPG, with all it entails. Which is great, I have really lost interest with the genre in recent years(FFX-2 was the most recent one I played, and even that was a little too much spectacle for my liking).

The graphics are simple, but very effective. You can tell exactly what it is you're looking at (I do not like the hyper-details that most character design tends toward, too many details is distracting in my opinion). However, they kept some of the old-school monsters looking exactly like they did in previous games (the chimaeras and the lunaticks are somewhat distracting).

I love the dialects in the game, the localization team did an outstanding job. Also, lots of groan-inducing puns through the game (which may or may not be a draw depending on personal tastes. For example, there's a town called Alltrades. The leader is called Jack of Alltrades. Later, he becomes a big evil monster and renames himself the Master of Nu'un.)

Some downsides:

Post-game is kind of boring. Some of the DLC quests in the game are fun, but hardware issues really make downloading them a chore. Also, certain features are unloacked only by using the "tag" mode. Someone needs to contact Squeenix and tells them that Tag Mode is great when you're cramming 127 million people into a series of smallish islands but when they release it in America that they need to allow you to enter "friend" codes like they did with the reboot of Final Fantasy 3j. I've left my DS on in my pocket for hours a day while running errands for nearly a month and have yet to get one single tag. Supposedly, there are "tag events" that different stores have, they don't do that in the area where I live.

Some of the quests are obnoxious in regards to low drop rates. Yes, I know MMO's are worse, there's a reason why I don't play them and don't like things that make me think of them. The one where you have to get critical hits twice on an enraged enemy is especially bothersome.

The RNG is too easily manipulated. In fact, it's not actually an RNG, it is a simple algorithm that is based on extremely obscure features of your save file. You literally can create circumstances where you don't have a chance of a drop or increase it to 100% by literally counting how many times you heal yourself before a fight (it's been documented and tested, look up "hoimi table". It is of course a bit more complicated than how I am making it sound, but it does in fact exist). Very lame.
In this moment, I am Ur-phoric. Not because of any phony god’s blessing. But because, I am enlightened by my int score.

Fun, free.

Played about 45 minutes in. Some ideas I haven't seen in action-platformers before. Your gun's auto-tracking is quite convenient. You get sort of a second party member at one point, and they help you out battle in a way that dodges a lot of the typical pitfalls of such an addition.

So my wife wants one of three gaming systems with the motion sensing business.

I've kinda convinced her that the WII's lack of HD is a serious bit. But I still don't know if I want the ps3 or the xbox360. Advice would be helpful.

I can't speak for the 360's Kinect stuff, as I haven't played it.

But that's what I have.

I also got my mother a Wii and Wii Fit for Christmas, and she loves it.

I think the good-end Xbox (250 gig harddrive) would be cheaper than the good-end PS3, if that's a deal-breaker.

We just got a Wii two weeks ago, but we don't really care about it not being HD. Since we just play Sports and Sports Resort, we don't really care about seeing even more detail on our Miis. So, we're a bit biased.

I've had fun with the Wii, too. We even started using the exercise software...gf gave up on it, alas.

Part of the real fun on the Wii is the virtual console. It's nice being able to play some of the games you loved as a kid (Super Mario RPG!)

Xbox and PS3 has similar stuff, but Nintendo has the biggest nostalgia trip. Even the original SNES Harvest Moon.

Games tend to be ten dollars a pop. Which is pretty nice.

What makes me sad about the virtual console is that Capcom isn't selling much of the Megaman games at all. Guess they're hoarding it for their own releases and compilations instead. Boo, I want Megaman X.

I went by a closing Blockbuster and snagged Fallout: New Vegas for under twenty-five dollars.

If you see a Blockbuster closing, take the time to go poke around.

So, I was bored today and perking over build ideas for the PbP game, and played Assassin's Creed 2 to finish getting all the feathers in that game.

Did it, too. All I had left was seventeen of 'em in Venice.

In the meantime, I heard the funniest line in all three of the games. I slaughtered a group of five guards and went on up the wall, and heard That Dude On The Street say, "This is what happens when your city guards are all incompetent thugs."

Or something to that effect.

Minecraft. I've been sucked into the very simple, yet complex virtual world of making mines and farming. I have no clue why it's so engrossing (possibly due to the feeling of accomplishment). I also have no clue how to mod it. Installing mods is an eldritch process which I could probably navigate through, but it's the making of mods that I'm more curious about, there are some crucially missing items I want to make...

Just wait until you get your friends to play (if they don't already) and you start a multiplayer server with tons of mods. What crucial items are missing? This might solve some of your woes.

well, tables, for one thing. Seats might be nice too. Kind of hard to make a viking longhouse/dwarven mine without tables and chairs for the dining halls.

I also want to add some armours, like pumpkin and bone.

So I have been playing emulated Mega Drive games for a bit.

Completed Gunstar Heroes (relatively easily, too - I remember it being much harder and practically requiring two players. And I don't *think* the game was slowed down by struggling laptop).

Completed a game I had only rented previously but enjoyed the hell out of, Story of Thor. Zelda-style action RPG thing, where you summon elementals. First you earn them, then you aim your element-magic-thing at things that are linked (so to summon the water pixie, you aim it at bodies of water, or water droplets, or possibly the blue oozes, or steam vents. For the efreeti, you aim it at campfires/torches, or enemies made from fire, or a dragon when it is breathing fire, or lava pools. For the shadow reflection, you aim it at mirrors, crystals or "dark patches". And for the plant, you have to find a venus flytrap to aim it at). A lot of fun.

And I like the way the elementals talk to you at the end. Three of them say how it was an honour to serve such a great hero etc. Then Boa, the plant, just says "Boa had fun, ate many good things!"

And finally... Phantasy Star IV. First JRPG I ever played, first RPG I ever played that wasn't just a Roguelike and was turn-based. Rented it for Mega Drive in the past, played a bit. A few times I emulated it, played a bit, forgot about it. Finally I completed it. It has a lovely ending, and it's so refreshing to play an RPG from the pre-Cloud era. No emo hair, tears of blood etc. Character deaths aren't cheapened by living on in spirit to still guide you and cast world-saving spells. No, people die when they are killed.

Seriously, I generally suggest people go check that game out. And given the success of the MMORPGs based on the Phantasy Star universe (the series is an actual series set in the same world, with the exception of 4 "replacing" 3), it would probably make a fantastic pen and paper setting. No, fuck off, I have enough projects on my hands. Maybe later.

Play Guild Wars with me! I've been playing for a while now. I've finally decided to play the very first campaign they released -- it sucks. I'm really glad I started on Nightfall, which is infinitely better.

I've been playing freespace 2 and discovering that I kind of suck at space sims.

I ended up skipping the Ravana mission, on account of various painful deaths because I can't dogfight Maras with a heavy bomber, and the "escorts" forgot that this is Freespace 2, set after the invention of point defense. Also, the man who decided that your first use of the Herc would be mandantory dogfighting Shivans is a jerk.

EDIT: going by the wiki, no one has actually created a user-made campaign in which you play as the Shivans. I am sad.

This in-development game looks kinda interesting. Kinda like Minecraft as a sidescroller but with vastly more stuff to do:

Also, some officially-sanctioned people are doing an LP of the Alpha.

Looks like 4E is finally getting a video game, for download.

It's pretty much an action title like Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance.
