OSSR: John Wick's Libertarian Fantasy Utopia

This is a classic "science I don't understand must be easy to do" take, with extra stupid thrown in for good measure. The idea that weather forecasting or quantum physics is "simple enough" to use the scientific method because the objects involved are inanimate is inane. And the idea that humans are somehow magically "too complex" to be modeled, but that our behavior can be understood through simple axioms instead is woo of the highest order.ArmorClassZero wrote:The Austrians do use some mathematical models, but they maintain that models fail to sufficiently illustrate the complexity of human behavior. The scientific method is great if we're investigating properties of inanimate objects or physical phenomena, but it falls short when applied to the social sciences. Austrian Econ and by association, Libertarianism start with 1st principles.
This is a settled question in every area of human endeavor. People who start with 1st principles can never make better predictions than people who have tested their models, and will eventually (or more typically, immediately) do worse.
Science works. Deciding that you already know the rules of the universe, or of human behavior, does not.
But this brings me to a subject that we haven't covered yet in this thread. ArmorClassZero, I'd love to hear your thoughts on Climate Change--both a general analysis, and how you see Libertarianism addressing the issue.
