There are 3 season of Nanoha, the original series titled "Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha" which has 13 episodes, the sequal "Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha A's" also with 13 episodes, and "Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS" which has 26 episodes. There is also "Nanoha the Movie 1st" which is a retelling of the 1st season with better production values. The first 2 seasons were released state side and have a meh dub. StrikerS and the Movie 1st are only avalible as fansubs though.

As for stuff like Nanoha I'm at a bit of a loss the series is fairly unique. That's sort of why I'm writing the RPG 1st (actual content is going up soon I swear)

I watched A's, which was pretty good, mainly for being a fighting series without a proper villain. I got the first series too but never mustered the interest to actually watch it, since I unknowingly started by the second year and was already used to Fate being on team hero. StrikerS also didn't interest me, but I liked the main meme coming from it ("shall I cool your head a bit?")

Ok, i watched the final episode of Binbougami Ga.
That was a fun parody anime with quite surprising ammounts of both plot and a bit of character developement, as obvious as it was . .

Aestetics of a Rogue Hero is . . fun. Dirty you-should-feel-bad-for-enjoying-this-fanservice fun, but fun none the less . .

And i am afraid they seem to have managed to fuck up the promising concept of girls und panzer -.-

Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo might prove to be a bit more interesting, but chock full of fanservice and crude humor too . .

Finished watching Symphogear a week or two ago. It was pitched for the UVic anime club this semester, but it didn't get in. My first impression was the most painful magical girl transformation I have ever seen. It was a great series, but the final episode was a bit of a letdown. Definitely worth it for episodes 11 and 12 though.

This semester, the UVic anime club is watching Genshiken, Anohana (The Flower We Saw That Day), Itazura na Kiss, Trigun, and Darker Than Black. Later we will be watching Angel Beats and Baccano, but we won't start those until we finish Genshiken and Anohana.

Genshiken is about a small anime club. We're all jealous of their club room. The main members are otaku, but they show it in different ways. One of them looks like Shinji. He doesn't do much. Much of the humour comes from the non-otaku girl who's only there because her completely insensitive and oblivious boyfriend is there. It has funny moments, but the pace is pretty laid back. It really makes you wonder where your half-hour went.

Anohana is about a hikikomori who starts seeing the ghost of a girl he hung out with when he was younger. She has some kind of last request, but doesn't remember what it is, so she wants him tore- gather the group of friends they shared before she died. The one thing that confuses me is that she's physically there (she cooks when there's nobody in the house at least once), but neither he nor she thinks of giving her a pen and paper to convince anyone else. Still, it's been interesting so far.

Itzura no Kiss is a romance series about a girl who ends up moving in with the boy she has a crush on after her house is destroyed in an earthquake. She's a mediocre student in Class F, and he might be the top student in all of Japan, so he doesn't like her much. So far it's pretty much been slice of life, but apparently the plot actually goes somewhere eventually.

Trigun is an older sci-fi/western anime focusing on the exploits of Vash the Stampede, the man with a $$60,000,000,000 bounty on his head. The $$ is not a typo - the currency is called double-dollars, and there are two suns and two moons. Vash pretends to be incompetent to protect his identity (he also dislikes hurting people), but he's surprising badass when the chips are down. Six episodes in, the plot is just starting.

Darker Than Black has some sci-fi elements, but it's closer to a superhero/spy mix. After The Gate opened near Tokyo, the stars were completely replaced. Every star represents a Contracter, a person with reduced emotions, a supernatural power, and a price to be paid whenever that power is used. As the club president put it, the main character is basically Chinese Electric Batman in that he's chinese, electrocutes things, and otherwise acts like Batman. It's been good so far.

Oh, yes, Trigun is an incredible Series. Fun and Plot all in one interesting setting with intersting whacky characters! Sadly, it has all of 13 Episodes, if i am not misremembering <.<

MyAnimeList says Trigun has 26 episodes. As for recommendations, sure! That's what this thread is for after all.

to aru kagaku no railgun < = railfun. seriously. supernatural fun. beautifull art style and real characters.
dusk maiden of amnesia < = supernatural romance/mystery, beautifull story and art style
natsuiro kiseki < = a wish stone and everything that can go wrong.
yuru yuri seasons 1 and 2 < = slice of life moe good clean nonsense ^^
lucky star < = more of the same, but a bit older
Pani Poni Dash < = even more of the same, still good while older.
Moretsu Pirates < = School Girl Pirates IN SPACE! beautifull, art-style and story both.
Hyouka < = a bit detective anime, very beautifull art style.

FLCL < = also short, a classic in the insane category.
black lagoon < = bleack but beautifull execution.
Strike Witches Season 1 and 2, while not as good as has been harped about, still good enough to watch.
Upotte!! < = basically, what was before Girls and Panzer. School Girls. That are Assault Rifles. Yes, that's basically all there is to it. No, that is not a flaw, honestly . .

Well, if you have the time for it . . that should add up to . . oh, i don't know, 50 to 100 hours of anime i think x.x

Trigun did have a movie called Badlands Rumble.

I would recommend Hellsing Ultimate. The last episode isn't out yet though. It is defiantly a good replacement for the original series. It's like every scene the director said " This has to look awesome as someone's computer wallpaper!"

Which one was the yuri fan service one that one of the characters wanted it to be all along, and which was the boring one?

Railgun was pretty much a 3-episode story stretched to 26 episodes and sadly never became the lesbian porn that one of the characters (and half the audience) spends the whole series wanting it to be. Also, gratuitous foetus monster.

Index was sort of watchable when it didn't take itself seriously and had a few neat bits, rather marred by naked-upside-down Alestair Crowley in a vat, a blatent Seshimaru ripoff villain and the climax where electrical powers defeat plasma generation by making windmills turn backwards instead of technobabble about magnetic containment.

I think I'd be better off just youtube searching for a collection of all of teleportation-lesbian's ecchi/comedy scenes then. I'll need to get her name to do this, granted, but then I can get everything worth watching without having to sit through Railgundex.

My main download site for fansubbed ecchi anime closed recently, so I'll need to find another one I guess. Though I can't actually remember if I was waiting for new episodes of anything to come out. I pretty much lost all interest with H ga Dekinai, the next Kiss x Sis episode will be quite some time, and as for future seasons of Freezing and Ikkitousen, "possibly, in the future some time (unannounced)".

I like what I've seen of Railgun, but I really wish they'd make the characters of shows like this at least 16. I mean, Jesus, I cannot take the idea of what 13 year olds? Yeah, them being pseudo-cops, regardless of whether they have super powers. If they were like, 16 or 17 it could be like ROTC or whatever, but it really is silly to me. Particularly when you remember how Japan views teenagers as "big children" rather than young adults.

Also, I was just waiting for Railgun to use a giant coathangar on that giant space fetus. That fight was so fucking weird that it seemed to be the only way to finish it off in my mind.

Watch Hellsing Ultimate motherfucker. Also Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood was good all the way through.

Some other (recent) gems include Book of Bantorra, Fate/Zero, Ga Rei Zero.

Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo is insane and full of fanservice.

On a lark, I pulled up Black Butler (Kuroshitsuji) on Netflix one day - they did a fantastic job on the dubbed version. Ess and I fell in love with it instantly. It's not yuri-tastic (sorry, Koumei), but it's pretty awesome in a demon-summoning, intellectual, Victorian-era sort of way.

I was surprised at how - given the age of the main character - dark and morbid the series is. I don't recall there being a lot of blood, but it can get gruesome. And while I know there's a season two, and I know roughly what happens in it, season one ended so perfectly that I am afraid to ruin it by continuing the series.
